Chapter 587 Was someone here?
"Your business partner's still waiting," Abella said, amused.
"Guess I better get to it," Phillipe replied, touching her face. "See you tonight."
"Okay." Abella watched him leave.
Elgin nodded at Abella and jogged to catch up with Phillipe. "Mr. Bourbon, I went over the project plan and revenue projections with you on the cable car. Thoughts?"
"Later."
Elgin's heart sank. 'This isn't good!'
"Is there an issue with the plan or the projections?" Elgin caught up again, smiling nervously. "We can discuss any concerns. We just want a chance to work with the Bourbon Group."
"We'll see." Phillipe left the ski resort and got into his car.
Elgin watched the car drive away, completely puzzled.
Did he say something wrong, do something wrong, or was Phillipe just that hard to read?
Abella was about to continue skiing when she saw a group of staff running towards her, out of breath. "Ms. Medici, are you alright?"
According to her original ski path, she should have reached them ten minutes ago. They had waited, worried, and started searching when she didn't show up.
Abella realized what was happening. "I'm fine, just switched to a different slope for fun."
"Are you hurt?" The staff, still catching their breath, looked at her anxiously.
"No."
They all sighed in relief. "Which slope next, Ms. Medici? We'll station ourselves accordingly."
"No need," Abella said gently, "There aren't many people here; I'll ski alone for a bit."
"If you need anything, Ms. Medici, just call us anytime." One of the staff handed her a business card and reminded her, "You also have a whistle in your pocket. If your phone has no signal or dies, just blow the whistle, and we'll come right away."
"Got it." Abella noticed their diligence. "You can go now."
"Enjoy your skiing, Ms. Medici." They all bowed respectfully as she skied away.
Abella skied for a while longer and was about to take a break when she heard a surprised voice. "It's you?"
Abella looked up to see Angela and a friend removing their helmets and ski goggles, glaring at her.
They weren't just looking at her; they were also scanning the area for any sign of Clare.
"Clare didn't come with you?" Angela raised her chin, looking down at Abella. 'What bad luck. I planned to spend Christmas Eve skiing with my friend, only to run into Clare's friend here.'
Abella couldn't be bothered and skied towards another slope, planning to rest elsewhere.
"Angela, she dared to ignore you!" Darlene was furious. "Just because Mr. Harris stood up for them on the yacht last time, she thinks she's something now, that she has backing!"
"Let's follow her," Angela said, annoyed.
Each slope was long, and they were far from the service center.
Angela and Darlene sped up to catch Abella, but she was too good, gliding gracefully down the slope, making them envious. 'Damn, how can she ski so well?'
Finally, Abella found a quiet spot, removed her ski goggles and gloves, and was about to rest.
Angela and Darlene quickly caught up. Darlene arrogantly raised her chin and asked, "Hey, what's your name?"
To be at James' ski resort and friends with Clare, she must come from a good family, but how good remained to be seen.
"Angela, you should know? I'm Darlene, you've heard of me, right?" Darlene was ready to flaunt her prestigious background.
Seeing them catch up, Abella took out her phone and messaged Clare.
Abella: [Who's Darlene?]
Clare: [Darlene giving you trouble? She's Angela's henchman. There was a dress a brand saved for me that she wanted but couldn't get. At a party, she spilled wine on my dress and badmouthed me. She's done countless petty things like that. Is she bothering you now?]
Abella: [Just ran into her. I'll get revenge for you.]
"Hey, I'm talking to you. Are you deaf?" Darlene crossed her arms, glaring at Abella.
"Is someone here?" Abella lazily looked up.
Darlene was furious. "I've never seen you at any of the balls or charity events. You must be here because James likes you!"
Angela thought that made sense.
At countless international events, all the prominent families attended, but they had never seen this girl or her family.
They hadn't seen James with her until that night on the yacht when photos of James shopping with his girlfriend surfaced online.
A bunch of bodyguards carrying hundreds of shopping bags.
"Are you the girl Mr. Harris likes?" Angela guessed, looking at Abella with disdain. "Shameless, pretending to be all high and mighty, but who knows how many people you've slept with! And you dare put on airs in front of us?"
Abella's eyes grew colder. 'Do they want to get hit?'
"Mr. Harris said last time that we should know when to cause trouble. I think today is a good occasion." Angela was ready to deal with her.
James had only warned them not to bother Clare.
But he hadn't protected this girl.
Darlene thought, 'For a girl who just spends Mr. Harris' money, he would soon tire of her.'
Even if Abella complained to James later, there were no cameras here, and she couldn't provide evidence. James couldn't do anything to them.
If they couldn't mess with Clare, taking it out on Abella would do.
"So, you want to fight?" Abella smirked, showing some interest.
"Enough talk," Angela picked up her helmet and swung it at Abella.
At the same time, Darlene raised her ski pole to hit Abella.
Meanwhile, Beckett and Kimberly, tired from skiing, were resting in the luxurious restaurant at the ski resort.
