Chapter 679 Loyalty

"Yo, since we want your life, there's no way we're risking ours," Margot said with a cocky grin. "No matter how many folks you got, running into us is just bad luck for you."

"Who's unlucky? We'll see about that," Abella said, eyeing them with interest.

Time ticked by, and Margot noticed Abella and Jacques were totally fine. Her eyes went wide in disbelief. 'What the heck? Isn't this stuff supposed to kick in after five seconds?'

Abella smirked. "When you bought these powders, did no one tell you who made them?"

Of course, they did! Her boss said they were made by Magnolia herself! No way there could be a problem. Did they get scammed with a fake?

"Take 'em down!" Jacques shouted, and Charlotte and the crew started fighting back like crazy.

Abella watched from the sidelines. When she saw someone trying to sneak up on Jacques, she kicked a tissue box on the ground, nailing the guy right in the head.

The dude yelped in pain, and Jacques realized Abella had just saved his butt. At that moment, Abella looked stunning. He was momentarily stunned.

Someone else tried to make a break for it through the window, but Abella grabbed a small knife from the ground, held it like a dart, and threw it.

The silver knife zipped past the person's face and stuck in the curtain, scaring them so bad they fainted.

In less than ten minutes, everyone was captured. To stop them from offing themselves, Jacques had their mouths gagged.

"Take 'em to Mr. Harris and let him handle it," Jacques said, but Abella cut in, "It's too late. Let Uncle Caleb and Grandpa chill. We'll report it tomorrow."

"Got it," Jacques replied respectfully. "Lock 'em up first."

Margot and the others were hauled away.

Jacques bowed and said, "Ms. Medici, sorry you had to go through that."

"Do I look scared to you?"

Jacques laughed. Nope, she didn't. Any regular girl would've been scared out of her mind. But Abella was cool as a cucumber, like she didn't even care about these people.

"Ms. Medici, weren't those powders supposed to be dangerous? My guys and I inhaled a bunch, but nothing happened," Jacques asked, genuinely puzzled.

Abella replied, "Before you got here, I lit some rose incense."

No one had noticed until Abella mentioned it, but now Jacques could smell a faint floral scent in the air. So, it was the rose incense that saved them?

Jacques added, "How did you know they'd use those powders? And how did you know how to counteract them?"

"I guessed."

If they hadn't used the powders, the rose incense wouldn't have hurt them either, even if they inhaled a lot of it.

"You must be wiped out. Go get some rest," Abella said, glancing at the clock. It was already past 2 AM.

Half an hour later, when Abella came out after her bath, she found that Jacques had cleaned the entire room. Seeing Abella in a white nightgown, Jacques immediately looked away, not daring to look at her. "Ms. Medici, I'll stand guard outside tonight. You should get some rest."

"No need. Even if ten more show up, they won't be a match for me. You can go back," Abella said.

"Then I won't disturb your rest," Jacques said, closing the door, his heart racing.

The next morning, when Abella woke up, she found Jacques dozing off outside her door. "You didn't go back?"

"Ms. Medici is awake?" Jacques perked up instantly. "As long as you're safe, I can relax. I'll go report to Mr. Harris now."

Abella didn't expect Jacques to be so loyal and gave him a nod.

Today, the estate was missing six people, causing a stir among the staff.

While Abella was having breakfast, several servants were trembling, fearing they might be implicated.

It seemed that ever since Abella appeared, the whole house had become unsettled.

Abella seemed to notice their thoughts and said calmly, "Don't be scared. Sit down and eat with me."

Hearing Abella's words, the servants were on the verge of tears. They weren't hungry; they were just afraid that Abella would accuse them of being traitors and have Jacques arrest them.

"Ms. Medici, does the breakfast I made suit your taste?"

Last night, after Abella had dinner made by Margot and Charlotte, it wasn't long before they were arrested.

So this morning, no one dared to make breakfast for Abella.

In the end, Abby mustered the courage to make some breakfast.

She was terrified that Abella would be displeased and have her arrested too.

"Ms. Medici, are Margot and the others really traitors?" another servant asked.

"Last night, I saw Jacques leading people to surround the estate and arrest Margot and the others. Someone said they were traitors."

"Ms. Medici, are they really spies planted by the bad guys around Mr. Harris?"

Five or six pairs of eyes looked at Abella expectantly, waiting for her answer.

Abella said indifferently, "Yep," and continued eating her breakfast.

Everyone was in disbelief.

They couldn't believe that Margot and Charlotte, who had always been loyal, were actually harboring ill intentions.

And Gregory.

They hadn't seen Gregory since last night.

Could Gregory be a bad guy too?

"Ms. Medici, will Gregory come back?" another servant asked timidly.

Gregory was their pillar of support.

"He won't be coming back," Abella said.

They didn't know what had happened at the hospital last night.

But hearing Abella say this, they vaguely guessed something. One servant couldn't help but say, "Gregory once risked his life to protect Mr. Harris. Mr. Harris considered him a trusted aide. Who would have thought..."

"Gregory has saved Uncle Caleb?" Abella raised an eyebrow.

The servant nodded. "I heard it was in North Mapleland. A group of people tried to attack Mr. Harris, and Gregory took a knife for him. If the knife had gone 0.1 inches deeper, Gregory wouldn't have made it. If Gregory hadn't bought time, Jacques and the others might not have arrived in time, and Mr. Harris might not have escaped so easily."

At this moment, Abella's phone vibrated. It was a call from one of her subordinates.

"Ms. Medici, half a year ago, there was indeed a small food stall near Zara Desert. The owner was a woman, but she left after about half a month. Locals said she was from out of town, and no one knows where she went. Local people generally wouldn't set up a stall there because of the strong winds. When she was there, some kind-hearted people tried to warn her, but she was very dismissive and seemed determined to stay."

Abella's eyes deepened. It seemed her guess was correct. The female stall owner, her good-for-nothing husband, and their sick child were all fake, aiming to harm her grandfather. They probably didn't succeed because her grandfather's reinforcements arrived.

Abella added, "Keep tracking their whereabouts. Also, check how many people knew about my grandparents' travel route half a year ago."
