Chapter 23

Abella held her phone close to her ear and heard Phillipe's magnetic voice.

"Something happened to my grandpa, and I want you to come over," Phillipe said.

Abella was puzzled, asking, "Sir Bourbon's condition had recovered well yesterday. What would happen to him?"

"Where are you?" Phillipe's magnetic voice sounded like a cello, low and seductive. "I'll go pick you up."

"Well. Hoz Church in the suburbs."

Abella could get there in just a few minutes if she took the shortcut.

Hoz Church was an old building left over from the 1980s with no worshippers praying there anymore. It was overgrown with weeds.

Phillipe couldn't figure out why a girl would be here. "You're in the suburbs?"

"Yes."

After hanging up the phone, Abella said to Clare, "I'm going to Hoz Church ."

"Okay." Clare, aware of her various identities, didn't inquire further. "I'll have the items sent to you later."

Gabriel parked the car at the entrance of the church and looked at the desolate place before him. Suddenly, he remembered something. "Oh, I know why Abella came here! A few days ago, when scrolling through my phone, I saw the news. Behind this church, there's a large area of wildflowers, which is a great place for taking photos."

He guessed, 'Abella looks so beautiful. She must've come here to take photos. One will definitely regret it if they forget to keep a record of her beauty.'

Silent, Phillipe gazed into the distance until someone appeared.

"It's Abella!" Gabriel noticed her. "I knew it! She must be here to take photos!"

Under the sunset glow, Hoz Church looked like a painting.

In a white dress, Abella looked like an ethereal fairy walking out of that painting with her long hair floating in the breeze.

Gabriel stared blankly for a while before getting out of the car and opening the door for her. "Abella, this way please."

Abella's eyes were bright, with a hint of spirituality. When she saw Phillipe in the back seat, she just nodded lightly without any coquettishness.

"What's Sir Bourbon's current situation?" Abella went straight to the point.

Phillipe looked at her clear face and spoke softly, "He drank soup sent by someone he knew, and now he's in the emergency room."

"Soup from an acquaintance?" Abella asked.

"Yes."

Abella remembered Ryan's condition yesterday. Even if he drank soup, nothing serious should happen. So she guessed that something must be wrong with that soup.

"May I ask how old you are, Abella?" Gabriel glanced at her through the rear-view mirror. "You should still be in school, right?"

He felt that Abella looked so young like an underage girl.

"I'm eighteen," Abella said indifferently. "I just finished my exams."

Amazed, Gabriel thought, 'Eighteen? How young she is!'

Then, he said, "You're so young, but your medical skills are already so good! Is it because of your family tradition?"

"No," Abella replied calmly.

"Then, you're..." Gabriel's words were interrupted as the car suddenly jolted.

Abella couldn't keep her balance and fell towards Phillipe. Quick to react, he caught her.

She was wearing a sleeveless dress today. Feeling Phillipe's hand on her shoulder, she blushed a little. Meanwhile, Phillipe also seemed a bit embarrassed when touching Abella's delicate skin.

The fragrance of Abella's hair entered his nostrils. 'It smells sweet,' Phillipe couldn't help thinking.

"Sorry." Gabriel apologized. But before he could finish explaining, the car shook again due to the uneven road.

As the car bounced violently, Phillipe protected Abella in his arms while warning Gabriel, "Eyes on the road."

Abella looked up at Phillipe's handsome face and felt like her heart just skipped a beat.

It wasn't until after they passed through that rough road that Phillipe let go of Abella with an apology. "Sorry."

"It's okay." She turned away from him with a blush still on her face.

When Phillipe met Abella before, she looked cold and distant. But now, she acted like a little girl, which made him become interested.

Gabriel thought that Phillippe would scold him harshly. But to his surprise, Phillippe didn't...

Feeling strange, Gabriel raised his eyes only to find out that there was something subtle going on between the two back there!

This made him wonder...

"Eyes on the road," warned Phillipe with a slightly deeper voice than usual when he sensed Gabriel looking at them.

In previous times, if any woman dared fall onto Phillipe like this, they would've been kicked off immediately!

But now...

Phillippe didn't kick Abella out; instead, he helped support her during the bumpy ride.

Gabriel suddenly realized something and quickly said, "Mr. Bourbon, it's mainly because of Sir Bourbon's instructions that made me distracted. Abella, when Mr. Bourbon and I went to visit Sir Bourbon today, he expressed his desire to see you. He wants to thank you in person for saving his life. You have no idea that he's a stubborn man and will find ways to get what he wants if he sets his mind on it."

Gabriel turned to Phillipe. "Mr. Bourbon, I'm worried that Sir Bourbon will disturb Abella's life. Should we set up a time with her? She can also let Sir Bourbon know about the dangers of not taking medicine. Abella is a doctor; whatever she says, Sir Bourbon will listen."

Abella was confused while Phillipe was at a sudden loss of words.

"What do you say?" Phillipe asked Abella.

"All right." Abella nodded mainly because she didn't want anyone to come to her as she disliked trouble.

"If Sir Bourbon wakes up later, I'll visit him directly; but if not, we'll find another time," Abella said.

"Okay." Phillipe looked at her as they exchanged numbers.

Gabriel was excited beyond measure when seeing this!

"Just send me your location, and I'll pick you up," Phillipe said softly.

"Okay."

Outside NYU Medical Center's operating room.

Scott paced back and forth anxiously while waiting outside. It had been an hour!

After the elevator opened with a ding, Phillipe and Abella walked out together. They looked outstandingly matched in appearance as if they were meant for each other.

"Mr. Bourbon." Scott was surprised by Abella's presence. But he didn't ask anything further. He just explained to Phillipe, "Sir Bourbon has been in there for an hour."

"What did the doctor say?" Phillipe asked.

"It's not good."

Scott sounded somewhat upset and regretful. He thought he should've stopped Ryan from drinking that soup earlier.

"Bring that soup over. Let Abella check it," Phillipe ordered.

"Yes." Scott nodded.

Although Scott was surprised by Phillipe's order, he brought over the soup quickly.

Abella stirred up the remaining soup with a spoon. The main ingredient was mushrooms paired with some medicines, making it a famous heart-healthy soup.

However, this soup shouldn't taste like this.

Abella sniffed carefully and smelled something familiar.
