Chapter 496 The Two of Them Working Together
His sorrowful expression caught Abella's eye, and she felt a twinge of sympathy. "It seems that person means a lot to you."
"More than my own life," Raymond replied, lifting his gaze to meet Abella's eyes with a smile. "I'm glad I met you in this life. I hope we can meet in a different place next time."
"Raymond, don't do anything foolish," Abella pleaded, sensing his intentions. "You told me that as long as there's a sliver of hope, we shouldn't give up."
"There is no hope left." Raymond's eyes dimmed, his voice filled with despair. "Abella, there's no hope. Less than 24 hours remain. I thought the seven-leaf lotus could save her."
Even though he suspected that the miraculous herb might be a rumor, he still clung to hope and shamelessly sought out Abella.
But when Abella confirmed that there was no such herb on Silvercrest, his last glimmer of hope was extinguished; he fell into despair.
He had tried everything, but he still couldn't save her.
The boy's shoulders trembled slightly, revealing his tears. Both of them were filled with sadness in the living room.
Abella noticed his sorrow. "Take me to see her."
Maybe, just maybe, she could help...
"In her final moments, she wants to go quietly," Raymond choked out, grateful. "Thank you for your kindness. I'll thank you on her behalf. Meeting you in this life was worth it."
The identity of the poisoned person was not suitable for public knowledge. She wanted go quietly.
And he would accompany her to the other world so she wouldn't be alone.
As Abella watched him leave, she softly said, "If you need help, you can always find me."
Raymond paused, took a moment to compose himself, and said, "Okay," then quickly left through the door.
Abella didn't see the tears in the corner of his eyes.
When she walked out of the living room, Abella felt a bit down.
Phillipe saw Raymond leave with reddened eyes and then noticed Abella's low spirits. He couldn't help but ask, "Did something happen?"
"This life, I might not get the chance to repay a favor," Abella said, pausing before looking up at Phillipe. "Let's go. Accompany me somewhere."
If she had gone alone to the location where Nicole had left, someone would have definitely reported it to Phillipe.
So, she might as well invite him along.
"What about Winston?" Phillipe seemed to understand Abella's thoughts. "You want the two of us to work together?"
Abella nodded, surprised at how well Phillipe understood her.
Winston sat on the living room sofa, his fingers tapping on his laptop keyboard. He was comparing the strange symbols Nicole had left him with global image databases, but nothing useful came up.
What did the strange symbol Nicole left him mean?
"Winston, the location Nicole left us, we'll go there together tomorrow. It's too late now to arrange everything, and you're injured. Get some rest tonight and recharge," Abella said, adding, "I'm going to rest too."
Winston stopped what he was doing and said warmly, "Alright."
He then looked at Phillipe. "What about you, Phillipe?"
"I'll head back to my place and come find you guys in the morning."
"Okay," Winston said, closing his laptop and getting up gingerly from his pain. "Remember, tomorrow we go together. No one gets left behind."
"Got it," Abella agreed readily.
Half an hour later.
Winston, still unable to find any clues about the strange symbols, got up and walked to the window. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Abella's room light had gone out. Was she planning to sneak out without him?
With this thought, he went to her room and knocked on the door.
Abella, dressed in pajamas, rubbed her eyes, looking slightly sleepy. "Winston? What's up?"
"You're already in bed?" Winston was surprised. "Sorry, I saw your light go out and thought..."
"Thought what?" Abella yawned lazily, seemingly not understanding Winston's implication.
While Winston felt extremely apologetic, he also thought Abella's appearance was simply too adorable.
Abella had dealt with so many people and things today; she must be exhausted!
How could he suspect that she would sneak out without him? He was being too paranoid, too distrustful of this adorable Abella!
"Winston, if you need anything, just let me know," Abella said, her eyes still showing a hint of sleepiness and red from fatigue.
"Nothing, I just wanted to make sure you were resting. Go to bed, have a good night, and sweet dreams," Winston said, gently patting her head with his uninjured hand.
Abella, still a bit tired, replied, "You too, Winston. Rest well tonight so we can go together in the morning."
"Alright, I promise I'll go to bed now."
Winston patted her head again and returned to his room.
To avoid causing trouble for Abella, he quickly turned off the lights and went to sleep, preparing to gather his strength for tomorrow's trip to the location Nicole had left.
Meanwhile.
Abella had changed out of her pajamas and into casual clothes. Seeing Winston's light go out, she used a secret passage from her room to exit the castle, where Phillipe was already waiting in the car.
"Is Winston asleep?" Phillipe asked with a smile, opening the car door for her.
"Yes." Abella had anticipated Winston would check on her, so she waited for him to do so before leaving. "Winston's pretty badly injured today. He needs to rest. Let's park the car a bit further away and walk."
"Alright."
Twenty minutes later.
They arrived at a forest. Beyond it lay the location Nicole had left: 21.1 degrees north latitude, 99.2 degrees east longitude.
With no lights, the forest was pitch black, filled only with the sounds of insects and birds, exuding an eerie chill.
An ordinary person would have been scared off by this scene, but Abella pulled out night vision goggles from her bag and handed one to Phillipe.
Unexpectedly, the next moment, Phillipe wrapped his arm around her waist, lowered his head, and kissed her lips.
Today, with Winston around, he had restrained himself.
Finally, his longing over the past few days was unleashed, and he savored Abella's sweetness.
The faint moonlight bathed them, making the moment as beautiful as a fairytale dream.
After what felt like an eternity, Phillipe released her, his eyes filled with deep affection and satisfaction.
Abella put the night vision goggles on him, making him look even more handsome. Hand in hand, they walked shoulder-to-shoulder into the depths of the forest.
