Chapter 291 Inviting Someone Over
At the hospital, Abella approached Barbara with a birthday gift. "Grandma, happy birthday! May you have boundless blessings."
"Abella, you're the only one who remembers my birthday every year." Barbara smiled warmly. "You're so busy, yet you prepared so many gifts for me."
"Give it a try, see if it works." Abella handed her a massager and placed it on Barbara's shoulders and neck.
After a while, Barbara closed her eyes in comfort. "This feels amazing. Where did you buy it? It must have been quite expensive."
She had purchased a few massagers from acquaintances before, but they were expensive and not as effective. This one felt comfortable, so it must have cost a lot. Barbara felt guilty about always making her granddaughter spend money.
"It's not expensive," Abella said with a gentle smile as she adjusted the massager to a manual massage mode.
Barbara relaxed her entire body. "My shoulders and neck have been sore for the past two nights, and I couldn't sleep. This gift came at the perfect time!"
Abella's eyebrows furrowed slightly upon hearing this. "Why didn't you tell me if you were uncomfortable?"
"I can't bother you with every little thing..." Barbara didn't finish her sentence before Abella's slender fingers reached for her pulse. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong; it wasn't a chronic sleep disorder.
Barbara smiled warmly. "I'm getting old, and my body is nearly falling apart. It's normal to have occasional aches and pains. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Now I can finally get a good night's sleep."
"If you ever feel uncomfortable in the future, make sure to tell me. Don't worry about troubling me," Abella said, explaining the usage once again. "This is the remote control, and it has several modes."
After explaining everything, she also sent a video to Barbara's phone. "In case you forget, I recorded the instructions in advance. If you ever forget, just watch the video."
"You're such a thoughtful child," Barbara said, deeply moved.
"And also," Abella took out a medicine sachet from the gift bag and said, "This can help you sleep when hung by your bedside."
Barbara took the sachet and looked at it, praising with a beaming smile, "Your skills keep improving, dear. The mandarin ducks are embroidered so vividly."
"It's all thanks to your excellent teaching."
"It's clearly your talent. You're quick in learning everything." Barbara didn't expect her granddaughter to prepare these two things for her birthday. She was both touched and pleased.
Abella hung the medicine sachet by the bedside, and a faint herbal scent filled the air, giving off a comfortable fragrance.
"Also, these are foot soak sachets. Let me try them on you." When Abella took out two traditional Chinese medicine sachets for Barbara to soak her feet, Barbara quickly declined.
"No, no, how can I let you do this kind of thing?"
"I'm your granddaughter, who else should do it?"
"Now that you have a different status..."
"Aren't I still your granddaughter?" Abella added water to the foot-soaking tub, put in the medicine sachets, and rolled up Grandma's pants before putting her feet into the water.
"Please, it's not right." Barbara continued to refuse.
"It's very relaxing once you soak in it. Please give it a try!" Abella put Barbara's feet into the water and gave her a massage.
Grandma smiled like a blooming flower, "Itchy... it really feels itchy."
Abella couldn't help but giggle as she watched her, "How is it? Did I deceive you? Isn't it comfortable?"
"Yes, you're the most obedient!" Barbara laughed joyfully, feeling incredibly happy.
"There are more gifts inside. Take them out and have a look." Abella said while massaging her.
"There's more? How many things did you prepare." Barbara took out one item after another from the gift box, which was a complete set of daily necessities for the elderly.
Finally, Barbara found a peculiar scarf in the bag. The reason it was called peculiar was that the scarf looked like it was knitted by someone clumsy and awkward instead of Abella's skillful hands. With Abella's level, she shouldn't be able to create something like this.
But it didn't seem like something bought from the market either. Abella noticed her suspicion and calmly lied.
"This is the trendy style this year, designed by a quirky genius designer. It doesn't quite conform to the popular aesthetic. The idea is to be unique..."
"Oh, I see..." Barbara didn't suspect anything and accepted it with a smile.
"And there's cake."
Barbara was surprised and looked around the ward, asking, "Is it the one on the table?"
"Yes, and I also invited someone to celebrate your birthday." Just as Abella finished speaking, someone knocked on the ward door.
Barbara, still puzzled, only recognized the person who entered through the door when she saw him. He overlapped with the young boy in her memories. It was Mr. Walker. Time had made him look even more elegant, his youthful vigor replaced by a mature and optimistic demeanor.
He was dressed neatly, exuding vitality, and his voice was powerful. "Barbara, long time no see."
"Gavin?" Barbara was a little surprised when she saw him.
"I happened to be in the country to deal with some matters, and when I heard from Abella that it was your birthday, I came to visit..." Mr. Walker lied without changing his expression, wearing a warm smile. "I'm sorry I didn't prepare a gift in advance..."
Upon hearing this, Barbara's lips curled into a gentle arc. "It's alright, it's alright. I'm happy that you could come!"
"Mr. Walker, there's a chair next to you. Please have a seat." Abella handed a towel to Grandma to wipe her feet, intentionally asking in front of Mr. Walker, "Grandma, have you said whether you like these gifts or not?"
"I do, of course I do."
Barbara smiled again and praised, "And these knee pads, blood glucose meter, reading glasses, and especially the scarf you gave, they are all very practical!"
These things were all given by Mr. Walker on behalf of Abella. The scarf was also painstakingly knitted by him, stitch by stitch, taking a whole two months. He heard that scarves symbolize warmth and care.
