Chapter 974 Abella's Help

Seeing Abella, Saskia's face brightened as she pulled up a chair beside her. "Did you change my clothes last night?"

"Who else would have?"

"Thanks!" Saskia affectionately touched her face, beaming. "And you even got me those adorable towels and toothbrush."

"That was Dennis."

Saskia's fork froze halfway to her mouth, a piece of sandwich suspended in mid-air.

"A bit childish, I'll admit," Abella said with an amused smile. "Dennis assumes all girls love cute patterns."

Saskia hadn't expected it to be him.

"Oh no!" She suddenly remembered something and frantically grabbed her phone. "I forgot to call home."

Her parents must be worried sick after she didn't come home all night!

"I already called Mrs. Fuller. Don't worry." Abella poured her a glass of milk and began recounting the previous night's events.

"You're always so thoughtful and reliable, Abella." Saskia took a sip of milk. "This milk is really good!"

After another bite of sandwich, she couldn't help asking, "But who exactly were those people last night."

Why were they hunting her down? Could they be enemies from her time abroad?

"It's a long story." Abella gave her the condensed version of recent events before explaining, "Jacob's men split into two groups—one to infiltrate and rescue him, the other to intercept you. If the first team failed, the second could use you as leverage to exchange for both the first team and Jacob."

"That explains why they suddenly started following me and wouldn't give up the chase." Saskia laughed. "I thought enemies from abroad had tracked me down here... So you were the one who rescued me last night?"

"Dennis was the one who saved you."

Abella's words made Saskia's smile freeze.

Really him? How was that possible?

"When the first team broke into our house, my family and I were dealing with them. I suddenly remembered you might be in danger, so I sent Dennis to check on you."

"Dennis said when he arrived, a dozen assassins were shooting at your car, turning it into Swiss cheese."

Abella added more delicious breakfast items to her plate. "Even in that situation, you still sent me voice messages, worried about whether the flowers would survive, whether the soil had spilled... concerned about Phillipe and me, but never about yourself."

Last night, Saskia hadn't told Abella how dangerous her situation was, how utterly alone she felt.

She hadn't mentioned her fear of never seeing her parents again.

Worried she might die at those killers' hands, she'd asked Abella to visit her parents if she had time—after all, she was their only daughter.

Knowing Abella's character, if she discovered Saskia had been murdered, she'd risk everything for revenge.

She didn't want Abella doing anything dangerous. As long as Abella could live happily and safely with someone she loved, that would be enough!

That's why she'd made those particular requests last night.

"Silly girl." Abella added even more breakfast items to her plate. "Next time you're in danger, just send me your location. No matter the circumstances, no matter where you are, I'll find a way to save you."

"I don't want you rescuing me!"

She'd rather face danger herself than put her best friend at risk.

Abella said, "Thank God Dennis arrived in time last night."

Otherwise, she would blame herself forever.

Thinking of Dennis, Saskia's mind suddenly flashed to his confession.

Had she imagined it?

How could Dennis possibly love her?

But last night felt so real.

Dennis's words to her, his furious shouts at those men—everything was still etched in her memory.

"What are you thinking about?" Abella noticed her blushing, assuming she was remembering Dennis holding her.

Saskia's face grew even hotter at the question.

Abella watched her with an amused smile. "I told you Dennis treats you differently."

This confirmation made Saskia's suspicions feel more concrete.

Could Dennis really love her?

Last night, in her hazy state, she'd seen Dennis looking anxious and heartbroken... was that all real?

Did Abella know about this too?

The thought made Saskia choke, triggering a coughing fit.

"Slow down." Abella handed her the milk.

Saskia quickly took several sips, wondering: if Dennis really loved her, why had he blocked her project?

Was it to get her attention?

But there were so many ways to get someone's attention—why choose such an annoying method.

Abella seemed to read her thoughts. "If the project had proceeded smoothly, you would have returned home a month ago."

So Dennis had been stalling to keep her in Britonia longer, which was why he...

But what about the race?

How did that fit in?

"If you hadn't been injured in that race, Dennis would have been your opponent." Abella pieced it together with a knowing smile. "Come to think of it, that race had quite generous prizes."

After all, it was the entire Velocity Circuit track—something many could only dream of.

If Dennis had intended to let Saskia win that track, it meant she held significant importance in his heart.

Saskia was even more shocked.

So Dennis knew she wanted the Velocity Circuit track and found an excuse to give it to her indirectly? If Dennis really likes her, that would explain why he didn't want her to address him so formally last night—he wanted to be closer to her.

Abella knew about Dennis's feelings, which was why she'd kept defending him last night.

Everything made perfect sense.

Saskia's heart began racing unconsciously. She truly hadn't expected Dennis to have feelings for her.

When had it started?

What had caused it?

After a while, Dennis came down for breakfast. Seeing Saskia, he coolly greeted her. "Morning."

"Morning."

Now Saskia felt awkward. Just thinking that Dennis might actually love her made her heart pound harder than usual.

"Thank you for last night."

Dennis was about to say "don't mention it" when he heard her continue, "Abella, I'm full. Take your time eating. If there's nothing else, I should head home... especially since you're traveling abroad soon."

Dennis remembered how, before carrying her to the car last night, she'd drowsily asked, "Why did you block my project..."

He'd wanted to explain then, but she'd fainted the next second!

Watching her leave now, Dennis assumed the blocked project still upset her, making her eager to escape his presence.

Anxiety filled his chest. He wanted to chase after her but didn't know how to explain.

"There's ointment for her on the coffee table in the living room," Abella mentioned casually.

Dennis's eyes filled with gratitude toward Abella as he immediately rushed after Saskia.
