Chapter 1066 Didn't Expect It to Be Me, Right?

"Our boss wants to see you," The masked man said, his voice icy and his eyes gleaming with a sinister light. "Hand over your phone before you get in the car."

Abella pulled her phone from her pocket and tossed it to him. He caught it and motioned for her to get in.

Inside the car, Abella sat in the back seat with an air of authority, as if she owned the vehicle.

She smirked, curious to see who was behind this and what tricks they had up their sleeve.

"Boss, she's in the car," The man in the passenger seat reported over the phone. "Yeah, got it. I'll be careful."

Forty minutes later, the car pulled up to an abandoned building on the outskirts of the neighboring city. It looked like a half-built mansion, with only the steel framework and concrete in place.

Several cars were parked at the entrance, and dozens of armed men pointed their weapons at Abella as she got out, wary of any tricks she might pull.

Abella walked inside, and the door closed behind her.

Josie and Joanna were tied up on the floor, huddled together. The mastermind, Isla, smiled triumphantly as Abella entered.

"Surprised to see me?" Isla said, slashing Josie's arm with a short knife.

Josie bit her lip hard, refusing to make a sound.

She didn't want Abella to rescue her. Isla had gone mad, and Josie feared Abella would suffer trying to save them.

Joanna, gagged, still managed to signal Abella to leave.

"Shut up!" Isla slapped Joanna hard.

With two or three dozen henchmen around them, taking them all down wasn't impossible, but it would take time. Time enough for them to stab her friends.

So Abella didn't make any sudden moves.

She remained calm, her clear eyes betraying no emotion. "I'm here now. Whatever you want, you can tell me."

"Abella, I hate that self-righteous look on your face!" Isla pointed the knife at her. "Like there's nothing you can't handle. You think you're so great? I have a surprise for you, and you'll be thrilled when you see it."

She laughed maniacally, glancing upward.

Following her gaze, Abella saw Lauren tied up and hanging from the ceiling, unconscious and covered in blood, looking like she could fall at any moment.

"She was just unlucky, on vacation, so I grabbed her too. Surprise?" Isla gloated.

"What do you want?"

"What do I want?" Isla laughed crazily. "You ruined my family. What do you think I want?"

"If you want revenge, let them go. This is between us. Don't involve the innocent."

"You think I don't know you're planning something? Abella, do you think I just met you today? Tie her up!" Isla ordered.

To ensure Abella's compliance, Isla pressed the knife to Josie's neck. "If you don't cooperate, I'll kill her!"

"Killing someone means facing the consequences." Abella said.

"Better to take a few down with me than to be a lonely ghost!"

Two henchmen tied Abella's hands behind her back, securing her tightly.

Isla laughed, then suddenly tears filled her eyes. She screamed at the air, "Mom, Dad, do you see this? This bitch is in my hands now. Watch closely from heaven. Today, I'll make her pay! I'll make her apologize to you!"

Josie and Joanna cried, shaking their heads, not wanting Abella to suffer.

Isla's eyes burned with hatred. "You have become the Medici family heiress. Why did you have to destroy us? Why couldn't you leave us a way out? That old woman left everything to you, an outsider, refusing to help her own son and grandson..."

Isla was furious. "If she hadn't been so heartless, we wouldn't be here. You want to avenge her? What right do you have? You burdened us with debt, got my parents executed, turned me into a joke, ruined my wedding, and my future. How dare you flaunt your return?"

Isla's hatred was palpable. "I eat scraps while you feast. I wear rags while you wear jewels. I'm mocked while you're celebrated. I lost my family, but you still have yours! I lost Remy, but you still have Phillipe! Why do you get to live better? Why do you get to stand above us? If we hadn't taken you in, you'd be dead!"

Abella didn't argue, letting Isla vent.

Isla's tears flowed. "You ungrateful wretch! You don't know how painful it was to hold my parents' ashes."

"You're wrong," Abella corrected calmly. "I was more pained watching Mrs. Wilson die. I lost family. You lost status and comfort. Our pain is different. Yours isn't greater."

"That's nonsense," Isla snapped. "You think I didn't love my parents? You think they were just a money source?"

"Your love was tied to the luxury they provided. If it was just about love, your foster mother Lucy's care was no less. Yet you don't love her as much."

Isla was stunned, as if struck by lightning.

Lucy had worked as a cleaner for years to support her. Even now, with the Wilson family fallen and debts to pay, Lucy hadn't abandoned her, providing family love and warmth.

Isla couldn't believe her words, and shouted, "Lucy can't compare to my real parents! She's just an outsider! She should be grateful I called her 'mom' for eighteen years!"

Abella looked at her, speechless. "You think raising a child is easy? If she needed company, she could've found a friend. Why take in a newborn and care for her?"

"Don't change the subject—she's suffering because of you!" Isla waved the knife at Abella.
