Chapter 372 No Evidence to Present
"I, Joanna, never lie. But Lola, you’ve been slandering your own sister-in-law without any reason. What's your angle?"
"Indeed, Camila didn't lay a hand on Lola. She fell on her own," Abella said as she stepped forward to testify.
Camila hadn't expected four people to defend her. Touched and emboldened, she looked squarely at Lola.
"Isn't this a bit much?" Sierra couldn't hold back. "All of you stand there spinning lies. I saw with my own eyes that Lola was pushed down by the so-called sister-in-law. Ethan, you might distrust a stranger like me, but would you really not believe your own sister?"
The words "your own sister" made Ethan subconsciously glance toward Abella...
Sierra mistook Ethan's look as doubt about the credibility of Abella's group and couldn't help but smirk.
"Why not just check the security footage to see who's right and who's wrong?"
Abella's suggestion sent a shiver of panic through Lola. "Oh, no!" Internally, she fretted.
In her act, she had not observed her surroundings. Here at the Medical University, she, an outsider, was unaware of the locations of security cameras... She had been too careless!
"Ethan, my head's spinning, and it hurts so much," Lola then said, pressing a hand to her temple as she winced in pain, "Could I have a concussion? What if there are complications? I'm really scared..."
"If you're still aware that I'm your second brother, it means your consciousness is clear. You’re not confused," Ethan explained. "A concussion would lead to confusion, loss of consciousness, or even coma. You're not exhibiting those symptoms."
Lola froze. These were the symptoms?
"Whether it’s real or fake, why not let Abella check you out?" Clare quipped from the side. Her smile was full of mockery as if Lola was just a joke.
Internally cursing Clare, Lola put on a pitiful act, clutching at Ethan's sleeve. "Ethan, I want to go to the hospital... I'm really not feeling well... I want a thorough check-up. Could you take me?"
"Abella's more reliable than any hospital doctor. Better to have her check you up," Clare interjected, foiling Lola's plan. "If I were you, I'd get up and apologize to your sister-in-law right away rather than lying here and making a scene."
After all, Lola was a lady of a prestigious family. Yet there she was, lying on the floor, regardless of her image...
"What did Lola do wrong? Why should she apologize to someone who pushed her? Also, are you suggesting Abella treat Lola? Is Abella a doctor? Does she even know medicine? Can she treat someone?" Sierra was fuming, "Abella's always been gunning for Lola. Who's to say she won't misdiagnose, trivialize the serious, or dismiss the minor?"
"Is Abella targeting Lola?" Ethan squinted, his expression turning sour, "Do you have any proof?"
"Of course. She..." Sierra began to explain, but before she could finish, Lola tugged at the hem of her shirt. "Let it be, Sierra. We should head to the hospital..."
“Ethan's face reveals clear skepticism that Abella would engage in underhanded actions against me...”
“When did a blood relationship become more significant than a bond formed over eighteen years?” Lola wondered.
Clare, Joanna, and Josie stood in Sierra and Lola's way, insisting they clarify the situation.
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, Lola suddenly collapsed.
"Lola, what's wrong with you? That's enough, you guys! Lola has fainted. What do you want?" Sierra knelt down urgently, "Lola, wake up. Please tell me you're okay..."
"It's better if she's out. Now, spill it! How has Abella been singling out Lola?" Clare demanded, unwavering in her quest for the truth.
In her feigned unconsciousness, Lola pinched Sierra sharply.
Sierra was stunned.
“Was Lola pretending to be unconscious?”
“Did Lola mean that as the person involved, it was tough for her to speak? Should someone else make a case for her?”
Strengthened by this thought, Sierra gathered her courage and spilled everything.
"As far as I know, Abella has completely charmed Mr. and Mrs. Medici. Not only did she take the Medici surname, but she also became the adopted daughter of the Medici family. She moved into their mansion, living the life of a pampered lady, the center of attention..."
Hearing this, Lola pinched Sierra again.
Sierra nearly cried out in pain. “Was I focusing on trivialities? Not severe enough?”
So, Sierra elaborated, "Abella's been bullying Lola at home. When no one's looking, she's thrown water in Lola's face, cut her clothes, even pushed Lola into the pool..."
Sweating with anxiety, Lola twisted Sierra's hand vigorously...
“What a fool!”
“How could she say all the wrong things?” Lola was infuriated.
Sierra wondered, “Weren't these matters grave enough?”
Racking her brain, she suddenly remembered something noteworthy.
"Oh yeah, Abella also stole Lola's fiancé, Phillipe!"
That was the last straw for Lola. She weakly coughed and groggily asked, "What happened to me? Where am I...?"
Everyone gave her a look of disbelief...
"Lola, you tell us! What else has Abella done to bully you? Speak up while Ethan's here!" Sierra, still unaware of Lola's predicament, encouraged, "Ethan will stand up for you."
“Did I splash water in your face? Snip your clothes to bits? Push you into the pool?" Abella squinted her eyes with a hint of amusement as she gazed at Lola. "I have no recollection of doing any such things."
With dozens of servants in the Medici family mansion from top to bottom, could such a commotion really go unnoticed?
"What's the matter? Can't own up to your actions in front of Ethan, huh? Where's that bold audacity you use to bully Lola? Let's see it!" Sierra spoke up for her friend.
"As far as I'm aware, every piece of Lola's wardrobe is haute couture. It wouldn't take but a phone call home to ascertain if any are indeed missing or damaged."
Abella retorted, then turned to Lola again, "As for me throwing water in her face, when was this supposed to have happened?"
"I... I don't remember..." Lola looked down, a fearful expression crossing her face.
This meant that Abella had splashed her with water, but Lola couldn’t pinpoint the exact day!
"Really, Lola? Lying to Ethan's face? You think because some spots at home aren't under surveillance, you can spout nonsense with no consequences?" Clare was so enraged she looked ready to roll up her sleeves and deliver a few punches herself.
Josie and Joanna hastily grabbed Clare to prevent any rash action.
If Lola stuck to her story that Abella really did splash her and pushed her into the pool, Abella would be in a sticky situation, impossible to clear her name.
Camila looked worriedly at Abella and saw her lips curve into a smile. Abella turned to Sierra and asked nonchalantly, "When did Lola tell you this?"
