Chapter 743 Do You Know Him?
The person who really got under her skin was Aimee!
Just now, she handed Aimee a KCY bracelet, but Aimee acted all ungrateful and kept her distance on purpose. But the second Aimee spotted Abella, she lit up like a Christmas tree. "Mrs. Vanessa Harris, it's my turn. I miss Ms. Abella Medici too, and I want a hug!"
Vanessa grinned and said, "Aimee's been talking about you the whole way here!"
"Ms. Abella Medici, I really missed you!" Aimee chirped, giving Abella a big hug. "Every day, I follow your instructions to give Mrs. Vanessa Harris her meds, take her outside to catch some rays, and get some fresh air."
Vanessa chimed in, "Aimee's been sticking to your orders to take care of me."
Abella couldn't help but laugh.
Aimee added, "Ms. Abella Medici, I've been using the skincare stuff you gave me every day. Do you think my skin looks better now?"
Lola, standing nearby, thought to herself, 'Of course, I know Abella would bribe these servants behind my back! Abella is so despicable!'
"Your skin wasn't bad before, you were just using the wrong stuff. It's much better now," Abella said, checking out her glowing skin.
Aimee was over the moon. Every day she looked in the mirror, she noticed her skin getting more and more flawless.
"Ms. Abella Medici, the cream you made is awesome!"
"Abella, when are you gonna hook me up with two bottles, preferably something anti-wrinkle?" Vanessa asked, and David jumped in, "Get me two bottles too. I wanna look like I did when I was young, so your grandma will like me!"
Abella laughed. "I'll sort it out right away."
Seeing them all chummy, Lola suddenly stepped forward, shoving Aimee aside, and said with a smile, "Abella, I want some skincare products too."
In front of her grandparents, she didn't think Abella would dare refuse her!
But Abella just gave her a cold look and said, "Use up what you have first."
Aimee smiled and added at the perfect moment, "Ms. Lola Medici has so many pricey skincare products, it's really enviable."
"You already have so many," Vanessa said, giving her a reproachful look but couldn't help but laugh. "Use them up first."
Lola felt a bit embarrassed, not expecting her grandparents to only think about themselves and not consider her.
Just then, a servant came running over and said, "Ms. Abella Medici, Mrs. Bonnie Harris needs to see you."
"Okay," Abella said, turning to her grandparents. "I'll be right back."
Vanessa said, "Abella, have Bonnie come see me after she's done. I haven't seen her in ages, I miss her."
"Okay." Abella followed the servant to the basement level one. As soon as she stepped in, she smelled blood. What greeted her was a dimly lit corridor with cells on both sides, some occupied, some empty.
In the last cell, Bonnie was going to town, whipping a man mercilessly.
The guy was already covered in wounds, but none of his blood had stained Bonnie.
At this moment, Bonnie looked both ruthless and imposing.
"Aunt Bonnie."
Bonnie turned and smiled when she heard the voice. "You're here?"
Abella seemed used to such scenes. Even though the guy was beaten half to death, her expression stayed calm.
Bonnie once again admired Abella's guts and composure.
"Aunt Bonnie, you wanted to see me?"
"Do you recognize this guy?"
Abella looked up, checking out the barely alive dude in front of her. "Nope."
"Last night, I got word that someone on the black market put a fat bounty on your head." Bonnie's eyes landed on the guy in front of her. "I had someone trace his IP and dragged him out."
Abella then got why Bonnie had bailed after that phone call last night, leaving Phillipe and Henry hanging. It was all because of this mess.
"Did he spill?" Abella asked, cool as a cucumber.
"He's tight-lipped." Bonnie glanced at the guy. She'd been whipping him for half an hour, but he still wouldn't crack. "He's a tough nut."
When Abella's slender fingers touched the guy's wrist, he instinctively tried to pull back, but the ropes had him locked down tight.
He had no clue what Abella was up to, and his eyes were full of suspicion and wariness.
"If you don't eat or drink, you've got maybe two days left," Abella said, then looked up at him. "I know you took money for this, but if you die, what's the point of the cash?"
The guy stayed silent, turning his gaze away.
"Isn't the money for yourself?" Abella guessed. "Is it for family? Or friends?"
The guy still didn't answer, his face a blank slate.
"If I'm not wrong, this person is super important to you, important enough that you're willing to risk your life for their happiness and well-being. But if you're gone, won't this person be sad?"
The guy stayed quiet, looking like he'd accepted his fate.
"Looks like I guessed wrong," Abella said knowingly, "You're not doing this for wealth, nor for someone close to you, and you don't have a terminal illness. So, there's no reason to risk your life for a task. That leaves two possibilities: either you're repaying a debt, a debt more important than your life, or you're being forced."
The last sentence made the guy's expression flicker, but he quickly went back to his poker face.
"Is the person who ordered you to do this very powerful?" Abella kept coaxing, "You should know that in Verdania, no one's power is greater than Caleb's."
The guy still didn't speak, his eyes as lifeless as before, like he was just waiting for death.
"Could it be that the person behind this is more powerful than Caleb?" Abella said with interest, "When did I piss off such a big shot? Is it the Umbra League?"
The guy's eyes showed a hint of surprise, but he quickly realized he'd given himself away and immediately looked away.
"All the bigwigs in the Umbra League are gone. The remaining small fries are just trying to survive. Do they still have time to come after me? It seems this person is someone I know and have a deep grudge with." Abella smiled faintly and continued, "Since I've guessed this far, even if you don't tell me, I can find out myself. It'll just take some time. If you tell me, you'll save me some trouble, and I can help you fake your death, giving you a new identity. You have two days left to think about it."
Abella finished speaking and looked at Bonnie. "Let's bounce."
Bonnie didn't expect Abella to make the guy fall into deep thought with just a few words. After leaving the basement, Bonnie couldn't help but ask, "Abella, have you interrogated people before? I'm suddenly very curious, do you have any other identities I don't know about?"
