Chapter 918 Bribery

Abella heard the voice and smirked slightly. "It's me."

"Ms. Medici? Why do you have Mr. Bourbon's phone?" Sam sounded nervous. "I swear, I haven't said a word about you being in Britonia these past few days."

Abella noticed Sam's nervousness and replied with interest, "Is that so?"

"Of course." Sam's voice wavered with guilt. "I just remembered, before you went to Britonia, Mr. Bourbon insisted on taking us out for dinner. Everyone went, and I didn't want to be the odd one out. Mr. Bourbon would think I didn't respect him."

Abella's curiosity piqued. "So you went?"

"Yeah, but the money and the car keys weren't my idea. Mr. Bourbon said Easter was coming, and it was a small gift from him. He insisted I take it, saying it would be disrespectful not to. I figured since you and Mr. Bourbon are family now, it wouldn't be right to refuse. Besides, Tony and Ernest took theirs too."

He quickly dragged others into it.

"Mr. Bourbon also said that in case of danger, the car's speed would help us escape, and it has bulletproof features. We took it to better protect you."

"So you all took it?" Abella hadn't known about this. "What about the money?"

"The money was Mr. Bourbon's Easter gift to all of us, not just a few. Everyone under him got a share, even those abroad on missions. Mr. Bourbon prepared a gift for everyone, asking us to deliver it. He said our loyalty deserved recognition, so..."

"How much did you take?" Abella's tone suggested she might cut off their hands.

Sam was terrified, trembling as he said, "It was a blank check, we could fill in any amount..."

Abella glanced at Phillipe, impressed by his generosity.

Sam, fearing Abella's anger, quickly explained, "We wouldn't fill in outrageous amounts. We all agreed on a uniform amount, just two thousand dollars each..."

"So you still have some conscience?"

Abella's tone made Sam even more scared. "Ms. Medici, let me explain..."

"And?"

"That's it..."

"That's it?"

"I just remembered something else..." Sam realized Abella was here to settle scores and quickly confessed everything.

"Last time, Mr. Bourbon gave each of us a ten-thousand-dollar supermarket gift card, usable at any Bourbon Group store. Everyone took one, so I didn't want to seem disrespectful..."

"So it was a tough decision for you?"

"Yes, I struggled with it for a long time before accepting." Sam was shaking, quickly pledging his loyalty to Abella. "Ms. Medici, even though we accepted Mr. Bourbon's gifts, we would never betray you. We haven't revealed anything we shouldn't."

Abella deliberately stayed silent.

Sam continued, "If, just if, you and Mr. Bourbon ever argue or he mistreats you, we'll always be on your side."

"He heard that," Abella said suddenly. "He's not looking too happy right now."

Sam's heart nearly stopped. "Ms. Medici, what did you say? The signal is bad, I'll call you back."

"Call this number later, my phone is broken."

Sam felt even more desperate. "Your phone, as tough as a rock, broke? How?"

He thought Abella was messing with him, wanting him to call Phillipe. But he was too scared.

"Even the toughest rock shatters from an eighteen-story fall, especially after an explosion..." Abella said coldly.

"That bad?"

A few hours ago, Abella had used Phillipe's phone to call him, just to ask for extra protection for Long Island Manor, without mentioning what she and Theo had been through.

Sam suddenly felt jealous of Theo for being able to go through life and death with Abella, his tone tinged with envy. "Ms. Medici, why did you bring Theo back? What about me?"

"Stay with Phillipe," Abella said calmly. "After all, it's all family to you, doesn't matter who you follow."

"No, Ms. Medici, I was lying to him. How could I be family with him? We're family, Ms. Medici. Can you trust Theo? Look at his silly smile, he can't be as reliable as I."

"I think his silly smile is cute, and he's quick on his feet."

"Not as good as me! Ms. Medici."

"In a year or two, Phillipe will find you a match. If you leave, I need someone by my side."

"No way. Even if Mr. Bourbon finds me a beauty, I won't leave. I'll follow you for life, Ms. Medici. Don't send me away, I'll return all the gifts to Mr. Bourbon."

Seeing him so scared, Abella couldn't help but laugh. "Alright, I called to ask how things are at Long Island Manor?"

"Everything's fine! But we were a bit late, Jacob got away! Ms. Medici, it's freezing here, and we're all outside keeping watch." His tone was pitiful, hoping Abella would show mercy, knowing she valued effort over results.

"Have people take turns, no need for you all to watch all the time."

"It's almost Easter, some people went home, we're short-staffed." Sam quickly pledged his loyalty. "But I'm different, Ms. Medici. I'm an orphan, always ready to work for you, unlike some people."

Abella caught his hint. "Alright, enough. That's it, I'm hanging up."

Sam heard the call end tone, surprised Abella didn't hold it against him. Did she approve of them accepting Phillipe's gifts? Abella still cared for them.

Phillipe was the richest man in the world, and what they took was just a drop in the ocean compared to his daily interest.
