Chapter 462 The Fish Takes the Bait
"What kind of people are they?"
"It was too dark to see clearly, but there were about seven or eight people in the yard. After that day, the Medici residence remained closed for four or five days. When I finally saw them, I asked what happened, and he just said they were relatives. Who has so many relatives visiting in the middle of the night? And they were walking around in the rain, which was really strange." Abella continued, "Do you think the Medicis might have offended someone?"
"That's impossible. Both of them are kind and have never left this town. They get along well with us. It has something to do with Nicole because shortly after this incident, they both resigned and went to find Nicole.
A hint of sadness filled Abella's eyes. "I wonder when we'll see Nicole again."
"It might be difficult. If there were any news, the Medicis would have brought them back. But they have yet to receive any updates. I wonder how they are doing overseas."
"Thank you, ma'am," Abella said. It seems I'll have to return the books to Nicole another time."
"You're a good kid for returning the books," the villager said, noticing the bag on Abella's back, which surely contained Nicole's books.
After a few polite words, Abella made her way to the back of the house NO.111.
Seeing no one around, she climbed over the wall.
The yard was covered with fallen leaves, and the plants had withered, indicating that no one had been here for a while.
Abella took out a spray from her backpack and sprayed it on the ground. Soon, some areas started to fluoresce.
The spray could detect blood that had been diluted 12,000 times. Even if you cleaned it, the blood would still be revealed.
The bloodstains were sparse, indicating that either the injured person wasn't seriously hurt or this wasn't the primary crime scene. Surrounding the yard were several rooms, somewhat resembling a courtyard.
Abella approached one of the doors and found that the lock had been tampered with. She took out a fingerprint flashlight from her bag and shone it on the lock, but there were no fingerprints.
Normally, if the Medicis had locked the door before leaving, there would be fingerprints.
However, the lock was spotless, suggesting two possibilities. Either someone had visited after Medici and his wife left, or the ones who locked the door were not Medici and his wife, and they were cautious enough not to leave their identities behind.
Abella put on a mask, cap, and gloves and pushed the door open. The living room was clean and tidy, showing no signs of recent habitation, but it was covered in dust.
Abella took out a pair of glasses she had developed a long time ago and put them on. Soon, she noticed a small red dot on a socket panel on one of the walls.
The red dot was emitted by a camera, indicating that a surveillance camera had been installed here.
She quickly moved past it and began inspecting other areas. Eventually, she discovered six cameras in the living room. Medici and his wife had not installed them.
These cameras were hidden in discreet locations, like pairs of eyes, observing everything in the house.
Abella swiftly removed the cameras, and her phone vibrated. It was a call from Philippe.
Abella hung up and sent him a message.
Abella: [What's up?]
Philippe's reply carried a sense of longing.
Phillipe: [I'm at the Manor. Lauren said you left early. Where did you go?]
Abella: [I had something to handle. We'll talk later.]
Phillipe: [Alright, let me know when you're free. I'll find you.]
Abella: [Okay.]
Abella put away her phone and took out a detector, finding several bugs hidden in the house.
The models and styles of these bugs were all recent, indicating that Nicole's disappearance was not simple.
Abella searched the living room for a while and then used the spray again, revealing more bloodstains on the floor.
This was the primary crime scene. However, it was unknown whose blood it was.
Abella went upstairs to Nicole's room. Similar to the living room, it was clean and tidy, with a hint of warmth. Abella used the spray to check for bloodstains but found none. The place was too clean as if all useful clues had been erased.
After searching the bedroom for a while, Abella suddenly noticed an old bottle of vitamin C. When she opened it, she found that it was empty.
She took a closer look and discovered that it didn't smell like vitamin C but rather had a hint of a kind of grass, a highly toxic herb.
She couldn't identify the other components, so she collected a small amount of the powder in a transparent bag from her backpack to be analyzed later.
Last night, Winston mentioned that he had been in a relationship with Nicole for a year, but there was no trace of him in Nicole's room, as if he had never existed in her world.
Abella searched the room for a while but didn't find any other useful clues. She then searched the rest of the house but didn't find anything new.
At noon, Abella climbed over the wall and went out to get some food. She also sent someone to Florida to investigate. In the evening, she climbed back in.
She had removed the cameras and bugs in the house during the day, and now she waited to see who would come to check the situation. Suddenly, her phone vibrated again. It was a call from Winston. After hanging up, she messaged him.
Abella: [What's up, Winston?]
Winston: [Lauren said you left early, so I called Philippe. He hasn't seen you all day. Where did you go?]
Abella: [I had something to take care of. I'll be back soon.]
Winston: [Are you investigating Nicole's whereabouts?]
Winston quickly caught on.
Winston: [Did you find anything?]
Abella didn't directly answer and instead asked a question.
Abella: [Winston, have you ever been to Fishpond Road?]
Winston: [Of course, I've been there. More than once.]
At that time, he had inquired about Nicole's whereabouts, but he probably didn't reveal much because he was a stranger to them.
Winston: [I've also been to Nicole's house and asked a few times, but her parents said they had no news of her.]
Winston found this hard to believe.
Winston: [Maybe Nicole has fallen for someone else, and her parents don't want me to bother her, so they lied to me.]
He had tried several times, but Nicole's parents always said they couldn't reach her.
Abella: [Did they mention anything else?]
Winston: [No.]
Winston was a bit curious about what Abella had found.
Winston: [What did you discover?]
Abella: [I'll tell you later.]
Abella had just finished typing when she felt someone enter the yard, and it wasn't just one person.
She smirked. The bait had been taken.
In the moonlight, several figures quickly entered the living room from the yard, their speed astonishing.
