Chapter 748 Resolute

Henry strolled back into the office, spotting his subordinate drenched in sweat, looking at him like he was some kind of hero. "Mr. Hall, thank God you're here!"

In front of Whitney, the poor guy didn't even dare to breathe too loud, standing there all hunched over, looking like a nervous wreck.

Coffee and snacks were laid out, but Whitney hadn't touched a thing. She was just sitting there on the couch, cold as ice, silent and clearly pissed off.

Melanie was nearby, acting like he didn't even exist. When she saw Henry walk in, she rolled her eyes so hard it was a wonder they didn't get stuck.

"You can go now," Henry said, and his subordinate shot him a look of pure gratitude before bolting out of there.

As soon as the door clicked shut, Whitney tossed a video of Lola cussing out a sales clerk on Riviera Avenue onto the table. After Henry watched it, she laid out the whole drama on Riviera Avenue and the run-in with Lola at QY.

Whitney snapped, "I've never seen such a trashy young lady."

Lola's behavior was just beyond her!

The kicker? This girl was her son's girlfriend, and apparently, he'd been chasing her for six years.

"Let me be clear, you can mess around with her, but if you think about marrying her, no way in hell," Whitney said, her voice like steel. "If you dare to have a wedding with her, I'll jump into the Senova River on the wedding day. You know I don't make empty threats."

"Mom." Henry was floored by how much Whitney hated Lola, even threatening to die over it.

He knew Whitney well; she always meant what she said.

"If you don't mind losing me, then go ahead and defy me!"

"Mom, Lola isn't like what you think."

Sure, Henry had seen the video and thought Lola was a bit out of line that day, but it wasn't enough to make Whitney despise her this much.

He glanced at Melanie.

Melanie shot back, "Just like I said, if she didn't act so trashy, I wouldn't have anything to say. Who told her to be so crude?"

Henry knew Melanie had a beef with Lola, but he didn't think she'd actually drag Whitney into it.

Whitney added, "Our family is in a rough spot. You have weaknesses, and the outcome is already clear! I will never let a girl like her drag our whole family down! We've been laying low for years, all for this moment! She's like a ticking time bomb that could blow all our efforts to bits at any moment!"

"Mom, I will handle everything," Henry promised seriously. "Whether it's our family's issues or my relationship with her, I'll manage it all."

"There's always a trade-off!" Whitney knew this better than anyone. "No one can have it all! Especially not with a girl like her. The Hall family doesn't need her! If you don't mind cutting ties with us, if you don't mind never seeing us again, if you don't mind watching us die, then go ahead. I've made my stance clear; you only have one chance."

With that, Whitney grabbed her bag and was about to strut out in her high heels.

"Mom!" Henry quickly blocked her path. "I'll set up a meeting with Lola. You'll see she has a lot of good qualities."

"Meet her face-to-face? To watch her put on a show?" Whitney scoffed, shoving Henry aside. "Don't ever mention her name to me again."

Now that Henry had his own company and was rolling in dough, he didn't need the family's money to keep Lola happy.

Whitney couldn't control him financially, and she sure as hell didn't want anyone knowing their family was falling apart over Lola. So, besides threatening to die, cutting ties was all she had left.

Henry watched Whitney storm out, then turned to Melanie. "Melanie, you don't get it. Lola's really chill in private. She's got a great rep at school; everyone says she's kind, gentle, and sensible. Sure, she's got a bit of a temper sometimes, but it's no big deal. We get along just fine."

Melanie was livid. "Are you nuts? You treat this trashy woman like she's gold? I just don't get it! Let me spell it out: if you marry her and Mom jumps into the river, I'll drag Mom's body to your wedding and slit my wrists right there!"

Henry was stunned by Melanie's threat. "Can't you just meet her and see for yourself?"

"Are you dense? Sometimes what you see is just what Lola wants you to see! The Lola who cussed out that sales clerk on Riviera Avenue? That's the real Lola!"

"Better to die than let her marry into the Hall family and cause endless drama!"

Melanie stood up, her voice icy. "If you choose her, then forget you ever had a sister!"

Henry tried to reason with her.

"Oh, and tell her to watch her step, or if I get any dirt on her, I won't hold back!" Melanie spat before storming out, slamming the door behind her.

Henry stood there, feeling helpless, just as his phone buzzed with a message from Lola.

Lola: [I'm having dinner with my grandparents tonight. Let's reschedule.]

She ended the message with a kissing emoji.

Suddenly, all his bad vibes melted away. He replied: [Okay, have fun.]

At JY Sky Restaurant, when the manager heard Caleb was coming for dinner, he reserved the swankiest private room with the best view and spruced it up.

When Abella arrived, holding Vanessa's hand, she immediately noticed the room's grandeur. It was over 200 square feet with a stunning terrace view.

"Mr. David Harris, Mrs. Vanessa Harris," the restaurant manager greeted everyone respectfully, "Mr. Caleb Harris, Mrs. Bonnie Harris, Ms. Lola Medici."

When it was Abella's turn, he blanked on her name and looked apologetically at Bonnie.

"This is my niece, Abella," Bonnie introduced formally, "From now on, treat her like family."

The manager was a bit taken aback but quickly recovered, "Ms. Abella Medici, welcome. If anything's not to your liking, just let me know."

"Okay," Abella replied with a gentle smile.

The manager noticed Bonnie and Vanessa holding Abella's hand the whole time, signaling a close bond. 'Who is Abella? She's never been around before. How did she become Bonnie's niece? What's the deal?'
