Chapter 930 Dennis is Angry
Dennis suddenly felt unworthy of even fetching food for Abella.
Louie finally got why Abella always seemed so proud and distant—it was because she had the skills to back it up.
"Mr. Medici is impressive too. Besides mastering foreign economies and having a keen eye for investments, he's also into racing, skydiving, rock climbing, and all sorts of extreme sports. No wonder he and Ms. Medici are family."
Louie wanted to stick up for Dennis, but Dennis shot him a look that clearly said: 'Shut up! Compared to Abella, who excelled in every field, my own skills seem trivial and frivolous.'
"Always goofing off. You're the older brother now, you should be more responsible," Kimberly gently chided him, then turned to Abella with a fond smile, "Abella, eat more."
"Dennis is already outstanding. In Britonia, his reputation is well-known, far surpassing what I achieved at his age," Caleb said, raising his glass to Dennis, his eyes filled with admiration and approval.
"The achievements Caleb and I reached at our age, Dennis has already surpassed at such a young age, and he did it all on his own," Bonnie added, her lips curling into a stunning smile as she clinked glasses with Dennis. How many people in the world could achieve so much at such a young age?
"I think Dennis is excellent too," Abella said, raising her glass of lemon water to toast Dennis. "Here's to you, Dennis."
Dennis was overjoyed to receive Abella's praise and downed his drink in one gulp.
"Everyone in the Medici family is talented," David said with a cheerful smile.
"Absolutely, whether male or female, they're all young and accomplished," Vanessa added, her smile full of satisfaction.
"And that includes Ms. Lola Medici, who, under the careful guidance of Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici, has been outstanding since childhood." Louie's sudden comment caused the smiles on Beckett and Kimberly's faces to freeze.
Not just them, but David, Vanessa, Caleb, and Bonnie also stopped smiling.
The previously harmonious atmosphere was replaced by an awkward silence.
Louie had intended to praise Beckett and Kimberly for their excellent upbringing, even for their adopted daughter, but seeing this reaction, he was stunned.
What was going on? Did he say something wrong?
Did Lola do something wrong? Was she not to be mentioned?
He looked at Dennis, as if asking: 'What's the deal?'
Dennis's expression was equally puzzled: 'How should I know?'
"She's no longer part of this family," Kimberly suddenly responded.
Louie's eyes widened in shock. What did that mean? Had she been kicked out?
Dennis also looked surprised.
"We'll discuss this after dinner," Kimberly said, not wanting to spoil everyone's mood.
"Come on, let's eat." David tried to lighten the mood, starting to eat first.
Although everyone continued to chat and laugh, the atmosphere was noticeably different from before.
Louie felt a shiver run down his spine, and suddenly the food didn't taste as good. Ever since he mentioned Lola, everyone's mood had darkened.
It was all his fault for being so talkative!
Why did he have to bring up Lola?
He had spoken without thinking!
After a tense meal, Louie glanced nervously at Dennis, who seemed to understand and guessed, "Does it have to do with Maria kidnapping Abella?"
Everyone was surprised he made the connection so quickly.
"It does," Beckett nodded. "Come with me to the study."
There was no need for the others to watch the surveillance footage from the abandoned building again; it would only upset them.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Dennis got up and followed Beckett.
When he had gone to the abandoned building to find Abella, he was told she was dead, having fallen from the building. He had been so furious that he wanted to blow up the building, but before doing so, he wanted to retrieve Abella's body.
At that moment, Maria had fallen from the building. He had wondered why Maria, a servant of the Medici family, was there.
Later, he learned Abella wasn't dead and that another group had also planted a bomb in the building, which was about to explode.
In his rush to save Abella, he hadn't thought much about it.
Now, thinking back, when did Maria leave the Medici family? How did she end up in Britonia, and how was she involved in Abella's kidnapping?
Louie didn't follow Dennis, as it was a family matter.
After watching the surveillance footage, Dennis was furious. He hadn't realized how much Abella had suffered before he arrived—slapped, whipped, and threatened.
What enraged him the most was discovering through Abella and Maria's conversation that from the day Abella returned home, Maria and Lola had been targeting her. Not only did Lola not stop Maria from disfiguring Abella, but she also encouraged it, demanding Abella kneel and beg.
After watching all the footage, Dennis kicked the desk in anger, like a ticking time bomb ready to explode.
"That's the whole story," Beckett said, making it clear that the entire family was disappointed in Lola and wanted her out.
"Is she in the basement?" Dennis asked angrily.
Before Beckett could answer, Dennis stormed out.
Beckett had a bad feeling and quickly called after him, "Dennis, where are you going?"
Abbie, who was guarding the basement, saw Dennis approaching furiously and stammered, "Mr. Medici..."
"Open the door," Dennis demanded, his expression dark.
Terrified, Abbie fumbled with the keys, her hands shaking.
When the door finally opened, Abbie saw Lola lying weakly on the floor. She barely managed to lift her eyelids, showing a hint of surprise and fear upon seeing Dennis.
"Dennis..." Lola called out weakly. She hadn't eaten or drunk anything for a long time, and her untreated wounds had caused a high fever.
Dennis looked at Lola, unable to reconcile her current state with the person he saw in the surveillance footage.
She used to be pure and kind, with a bright, sunny smile, always clinging to Blake. She rarely came to him.
Partly because he wasn't home much, partly because of his temper, and partly because he didn't invest much in emotional relationships. He preferred solving practical problems for the family over slowly building emotional bonds.
Of course, he cared about Lola. He always fulfilled her requests.
