Chapter 123 Only Knows This One
After listening to Abella's improvisation, Lola had only one question in her mind.
“Why was she able to perform so well without any preparation?”
Over the years, Lola had also heard many obscure piano pieces, and she could be sure that the melodies Abella played just now had never been published. It was most likely an improvisation!
How could she perform so brilliantly without repeated contemplation and careful planning?
Earlier, she even had the audacity to ask if Abella had studied piano or won any awards...
And she had been showing off in front of Abella, boasting about winning more than fifty first prizes throughout her life and being a student of the renowned piano master Andy...
It was simply embarrassing.
Andy was nothing compared to Anika in front of Abella.
Anika was a legend in the piano world, and no one has been able to surpass her to this day!
She has won numerous prestigious awards both domestically and internationally, and is on par with Mr. Edwards as a master!
In Anika' eyes, even if her opponent had won more than fifty first prizes, or even more than five hundred, she wouldn't care.
Her level was on a different plane!
Lola felt like she had made a fool of herself.
When she asked those arrogant questions just now, Abella was still playing games, and she thought she would never amount to anything in her whole life, little did she know...
Her scorn and self-righteousness had now turned into slaps on her own face, one after another...
Lola couldn't describe her current feelings.
Defeat? Unwillingness? Sadness? Disappointment? Frustration? Feeling useless? Or...
"It's your turn." On the stage, Lady lifted her red lips and confidently looked at Isla, saying, "Anika has just finished her improvisation, and her level is obvious to everyone. You think your talent is superior to Anika, right? Now you can showcase it to everyone."
Isla stood in place, trembling uncontrollably. She knew her own level of composition very well, and it would surely be laughed at once revealed.
How could she possibly compare to Anika!
Lady sensed her embarrassment and sneered, "If you can't improvise, just play a well-known piece you have heard before."
Isla couldn't play...
Although her tutor had taught her famous pieces like Canon in D, Für Elise, Wedding March, etc., she couldn't remember the complete melody without looking at the sheet music.
There was someone who handed her the sheet music and asked her to play, but she played very awkwardly, definitely not as smoothly as Abella just did. As long as someone who understood the piano listened, they would immediately know her level! Lady felt ironic and realized that she had overestimated Isla earlier.
Isla bit her lip and still insisted, "I just had a moment of blank in my head..."
Seeing her embarrassed expression, Lady found it amusing. "Since you can't improvise and have no impression of the top ten classical pieces, just play something you know."
Isla remained motionless. For the past month, she had only practiced "Sorrow," a piano piece. She hadn't practiced any others at all.
"What? You can't even play other piano pieces? You can't even play the simplest 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'?"
There was uproarious laughter from the audience.
"I can't believe Isla really can't play the piano!"
"She only knows 'Sorrow'?"
"She can't remember sheet music?"
"For someone learning the piano, remembering sheet music is the most basic... It's unbelievable that she can't even remember a complete piece of sheet music."
"And the key point is, not being able to play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' is a bit unacceptable! I could play it when I was four years old."
"Someone like her has no qualification to get second place!"
"Her second place definitely has some problems!"
Sitting in the front row of the audience, the judge Gina held a microphone and expressed her disappointment. "In this year's piano competition, not only do the participants need a high level of piano playing, but they also need to compose their own music. From the first round of auditions to the top eight in the third round, you all played the same piece of music."
Other competitors would compose several more pieces to play and try to show the judges a better side in order to earn more points. But Isla only played "Sorrow" from beginning to end.
"At first, I thought you were very confident in the piece you composed yourself and believed that one song would make you invincible. That's why you played the same piece from start to finish. I even thought you were quite confident. But I didn't expect that you weren't confident at all. You only knew 'Sorrow' from start to finish!"
Gina was extremely disappointed in her. "You tried to take a clever shortcut and deceive your way through such a serious and grand occasion. I'm very disappointed in you."
"No, it's not like that..." Isla was on the verge of tears. "I don't only know this one piece..."
The people in the audience mocked one after another.
"Then play it! Show us your skills and prove yourself!"
"You feel guilty because Anika played so well, right? You don't dare to play, do you?"
"Apologize!"
"Apologize to Anika!"
"You don't deserve second place! You don't even deserve to be in this circle!"
"Isla, you are a disgrace to the piano world! Please, get out of this circle!"
"Get out! Get out!"
Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Wilson watched helplessly as their daughter, who was once celebrated as second place among thousands, fell into the image of a despised street rat. And all of this was thanks to Abella!
They sympathized with her and were about to help say something, when Abella spoke up.
"Just now, backstage, I ran into your former classmate," Abella said casually yet assertively, "Let's invite her on stage now."
Everyone looked surprised and saw a girl stepping onto the stage, standing tall and saying, "Hello everyone, my name is Tina. I came to the awards ceremony with Lily. I used to be in the same class as Isla."
Isla exclaimed in astonishment, "Tina!"
They used to be good friends, and one could even say best friends. But after a few disagreements, they lost touch when Tina transferred schools...
Isla never expected her former friend to stand up there and spill the beans. Was it because she had shown off in front of Tina, boasting about getting second place before the ceremony started?
Or had Tina been bribed by Abella?
Regardless, Isla felt doomed today! Subconsciously, she clenched her fists, her face turning pale.
"Isla used to come from a poor background. I've been to her house, and there was no piano at all. It was her who envied me for practicing piano since I was a child. Every time she came to my house, she would touch that piano," Tina stated.
"I can testify that before high school, she had never learned piano and couldn't distinguish between the bass and treble clefs," Tina continued.
"Her piano journey should have started after high school."
