Chapter 476 The Way to Punish a Traitor
" If you were to receive thirty million from each brother every few days, and with the contributions of Mr. and Mrs. Medici, how many houses can you buy in a year? Houses are more practical than emotions." Maria said.
Lola lowered her head and remained silent.
"Miss Lola, what's next..." Maria leaned in to whisper something to Lola.
Meanwhile, at Valleydale, when Sam saw Abella, he reported truthfully, "Ms. Abella, those people from last night have woken up, but they refuse to speak, no matter what method we try."
"It's alright, no rush. I'll go to the lab first."
Watching her walk away, Sam thought to himself, 'Abella looks so cool when she's focused! '
Abella began to analyze the powder from the previous day, feeling like she had overlooked something. As she was busy, her phone vibrated, and she saw it was Clara's call.
"Clara?" Abella halted her movements, feeling a bit puzzled.
"Abella, where are you going? I'm at the Manor!" Clara's voice came through the phone. "The staff said you left early this morning. Are you going out to have fun? Can you take me with you?"
"I'm out with a friend."
"Alright, when will you be back?"
"It might not be so soon."
"Winston is not at home either. Can you finish your business by noon? Let's have lunch together. I heard there's a beautiful specialty restaurant nearby that many people go to."
One reason for Clara wanted to get close to Abella was that she liked Abella's personality and found her easy to get along with.
However, ever since Abella found out about Winston's feelings, she politely declined, "I might have no time today. Let's plan for another day, and I'll treat you."
"That won't do; I can't let you pay! Let's arrange another time to dine there together. I won't interrupt your time with your friend right now."
After a few more words, Clara finally hung up. Alone in the beautiful garden of Long Island Manor, Clara felt a bit bored as Uncle Medici and Aunt Medici were not home.
Just then, Lola called out softly, "Clara?"
"Lola." Clara saw her and smiled warmly.
"Are you here to see Winston? He's out, and there's no one else at home. How about I accompany you to go shopping outside and grab a meal?" Lola asked.
Lola thought to herself that if Clara were to become her future sister-in-law, it would be good to get closer. Having one more friend was better than having one more enemy.
But Clara said with a smile, "Let's do it another day. I just remembered I have something to do. I'll leave first."
Feeling a bit awkward after Clara's departure, Lola still smiled. "Sure, let's reschedule for another day."
After Clara left, Maria couldn't help but comment, "This Clara clearly doesn't want to get close to you. She went to please Abella just now and invited her to eat together. But as soon as you asked her, she suddenly had something to do. Who is she trying to fool?"
Lola didn't expect Clara who just wanted to build a good relationship with Abella, was calculating..
"Because you're not the biological daughter of the Medici family," Maria deliberately provoked. "Miss Lola, do you see the difference now?"
Biological daughters always had people competing to please them. After all, a foster daughter was still an outsider to this family!
At Valleydale, Abella still had to finish her experiment. When she heard that Winston had arrived, she turned around and saw a tall figure standing at the door.
"Winston, you're here."
This was the first time Winston had seen Abella in her lab coat. " Do I disturb you?"
"No." Abella gestured towards a chair with her eyes. "Take a seat, I'm almost done."
As Winston entered, he surveyed the lab environment. There was a wide array of professional medical equipment, some of which he had tried to acquire before but couldn't find anywhere.
He had expected the equipment in Abella's lab to be less extensive. The equipment in this lab would cost over a hundred million dollars.
Sam had mentioned that there were eleven labs on this entire floor.
Sitting in the chair, Winston quietly watched Abella's focused profile. The sunlight shining on her made her look like a beautiful painting. He couldn't help but take out his phone to take a picture, but he refrained from showing it off to his friends out of respect for Abella's privacy.
At that moment, someone knocked on the door, "Ms. Abella, the results of the third phase of Project P are ready."
The entrant, also in a lab coat, was momentarily stunned to see Winston sitting in the chair. Why was there a man in Ms. Abella's lab?
Could he be her boyfriend???
"I'll take a look." Abella took the data report from her and flipped through it. "Just as we expected. Let's move on to the fourth phase and aim to have the results by this Sunday."
"Understood."
Before leaving, the person glanced at Winston who was really handsome. Abella had such good taste.
After half an hour, Abella's expression had soured.
Winston couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
"Winston, I made a troubling discovery." Abella stared at the data results, speaking with a hint of seriousness, "Our previous speculation may have been wrong."
Winston's heart clenched. "What speculation?"
"The powder found in Nicole's vitamin C bottle. We initially thought it was a highly toxic substance, possibly used by someone to poison Nicole or by Nicole for self-defense. But now, I've discovered a third possibility."
Winston held his breath, asking in a deep voice, "What is it?"
"Phillipe's mother was poisoned with a chronic toxin called C30 for which there is no antidote available on the market. I tried mixing C30 with the highly toxic powder, and I found that they have a mutual neutralizing effect."
In other words, the highly toxic powder, mainly composed of Dragon Ascending Grass, could counteract the poison of C30.
"It's like fighting poison with poison," Abella added, "but it doesn't completely neutralize it. It only mitigates some of the effects. During this process, the patient suffers greatly. I also tried several other chronic toxins, and the results showed that C30 could neutralize a portion of their toxins."
Winston finally understood why her expression was not looking good. "Are you saying that Nicole might have been poisoned, but there's no antidote available, so she's using this highly toxic powder to counteract the poison temporarily?"
"It's a possibility."
If this was the case, how much suffering had she endured over the past year?
Winston's heart turned cold. No, his Nicole was kind-hearted and shouldn't have to endure such torment.
"Those people said she was a traitor, right? Is it possible that this is a way to punish a traitor?"
Winston had never considered this possibility, but upon hearing Abella's explanation, he felt it was highly likely.
"Abella, I want to find her." Winston was truly anxious. "I really want to find her as soon as possible."
