Chapter 996 George and Margaret Are So Attentive
"Who would've thought she was the leader of the organization?" George was clearly shocked. "This whole thing's way more complicated than I imagined. But with Maria dead, it just goes to show—karma's real!"
Elsa couldn't believe Abella had been through so much and come out unscathed, sitting there like nothing happened.
'Is she even human? Her luck is just too good!' Elsa thought to herself.
It was a kidnapping, and there was a timed bomb.
The fact that she survived was simply unbelievable!
"So, the only one left alive is Jacob," George sighed, then added, "This guy can't get off easy! We need to grill him about whether he intentionally swapped the two kids back then to give his daughter a better life."
"I'll get to the bottom of it once he wakes up." Kimberly hadn't told them about the hidden truth behind the fire years ago, or that there was still someone behind the scenes who hadn't been revealed.
George and Margaret assumed it was Jacob and Maria who swapped the kids for their own gain.
"Once he wakes up?" George didn't understand. "At a time like this, he's still sleeping? Why don't you wake him up and give him a good grilling?"
"He's not sleeping, he's in a coma. It's a long story. You know Abella has the Medical Authority title. Thanks to her intervention, Jacob is still in a coma. We're just waiting for him to wake up to get the full story."
George and Margaret's eyes turned to Abella.
"Yeah, Abella's medical skills are well-known," George praised her, remembering how she had saved his parents.
Margaret smiled, "Abella is truly talented. Whoever marries her will be very lucky."
"But with so many people around for Christmas, you need to keep a close eye on Jacob. Don't let him get any opportunities!" George paused, then added, "If you need any help, just call me."
"Long Island Manor is well-guarded inside and out. He won't be able to escape," Beckett reassured him, patting George on the shoulder with a smile. "Don't worry, there are twenty people just guarding his room!"
George was surprised by the number. "Once he wakes up and you get the answers, let me know. I want to give him a piece of my mind, too! If it weren't for him and Maria, Abella wouldn't have been lost for so many years."
"I want to deal with him too, to show him that the Medici family is not to be messed with!"
As soon as Margaret finished speaking, Abella smirked and said playfully, "Uncle George and Aunt Margaret are so concerned..."
Everyone's eyes turned to them, and the atmosphere grew tense.
"Knowing you care about me and want to stand up for me makes me feel honored and happy," Abella continued, easing the tension. George and Margaret relaxed.
"Of course, you're our niece. Who else would we care about if not you? You're the treasure of the family now," George said with a laugh.
They then chatted with Beckett about work and mutual acquaintances.
Abella grew bored and stood up. "I need to return a call."
In truth, she had no call to return.
Using it as an excuse to leave, she walked to the garden and saw the candles still burning.
Phillipe had already messaged her, saying he would join her for dinner after the Bourbon family ceremony.
"Abella!" A voice called out.
Elsa caught up to her. "Can we talk?"
Abella had no interest in talking to her. She took a step forward, but Elsa said, "I'm not like Lola. I don't play her childish games. Let's put the past behind us. Without Lola, I think we could be great friends."
Before Abella could respond, Elsa added, "Even if we can't be friends, there's no need to be enemies. I admire you. You're nothing like that two-faced Lola. You're worlds apart."
Abella looked at the confident Elsa.
At Clarence's birthday, Elsa had arrogantly challenged her to a violin duel, wanting to see who could impress Stringless enough to become his student.
They both played "Worldly," a piece Clifford and Stringless had performed together.
Abella's skill was clearly superior. Elsa, unwilling to accept defeat, challenged her again and lost, having to honor the bet: never to touch the violin or pursue a related career again.
Could they really be friends after such a "humiliating" event?
"Don't waste your time on me," Abella said, walking away without a second glance.
"Abella!" Elsa called after her, unwilling to give up. "Lola treated you terribly. Now that she's been kicked out of the Medici family, don't you want to get back at her? I know you don't stoop to petty tricks, but I can help you deal with her. I just don't want to be your enemy. This is my sincerity, whether you believe it or not."
"Do you think I believe you?" Abella smirked coldly. "How you deal with her is your business. Don't involve me."
If Abella weren't Beckett's daughter and highly regarded by the family, Elsa wouldn't be trying to befriend Abella.
Elsa wanted to win her over emotionally, then destroy her.
Honestly, Abella didn't even bother to expose such petty schemes. Elsa thought she was just proud.
"I never blamed you for my lifelong ban from the violin world. It was my own lack of skill!" Elsa shouted at her retreating figure. "Isn't having one more friend better than one more enemy? Abella, I know you don't trust me, but I genuinely want to put the past behind us. We're family!"
Abella stopped and turned slightly, her voice cold. "You and I will never be family."
Even if they shared Medici blood.
They would never truly be a loving family.
Elsa was stunned by Abella's bluntness.
"If you don't know what's good for you, you'll end up just like her," Abella said, leaving without another word.
Elsa couldn't believe Abella wouldn't yield to kindness or pressure. She wondered how her brothers had managed to get close to her.
