Chapter 721 Little Schemes

Abella dragged herself back to her room for a quick shower, and by the time she was done, it was already past 2 AM.

She checked her phone and saw a bunch of missed calls and unread messages, all from Phillipe.

She shot him a text, asking if he was still up.

Next thing she knew, her phone was ringing. It was Phillipe.

"Wow, were you just sitting by your phone?" Abella chuckled.

Phillipe let out a sigh of relief. "Sounds like you had a crazy night. Hearing your voice now, I know it went okay."

He was genuinely stoked for her.

He knew what Abella had to handle tonight and had a pretty good idea of what might've gone down.

"Yeah, it went alright, but my grandpa's old, and tonight was a lot for him," Abella said, filling him in. Suddenly, she heard Phillipe laughing and asked, "What's so funny?"

"Have you noticed? You're talking to me more and sharing stuff. You used to barely reply to my texts."

Let alone spill the beans like this.

"Is that all it takes to make you happy?" Abella couldn't help but smile. "You're too easy to please."

"As long as you talk to me more and think about me, I'm good."

Abella laughed. "So, can you sleep now?"

"Got any plans tomorrow?" Phillipe asked softly, "I wanna take you to a few places."

They'd been in Verdania for a few days, and he hadn't taken her out to explore yet.

Abella thought about it and realized she didn't have anything pressing tomorrow, so she agreed.

"Then sleep in as long as you want. When you wake up, hit me up, and I'll come get you."

"Okay, it's late. You should sleep first."

"What about you?"

"Drying my hair."

She had taken his call earlier, and her hair was still wet.

Phillipe felt a bit guilty. He should've asked what she was doing first so she wouldn't have to answer with wet hair on a cold night.

If he were there, he could've helped her dry her hair.

Thinking about this, his mind drifted back to that night long ago.

"I'll bring you a hair-drying cap tomorrow," Phillipe said gently, "For now, use the warm air to dry it, and get to bed. Don't catch a cold."

"Okay." Abella said goodnight and hung up.

The next day, before dawn, Lola got up.

She wanted to bond with each family member before Abella woke up.

But she got up too early, and when she had breakfast, she was the only one there.

The sky outside was still gray, and the night hadn't completely faded. She couldn't help but ask the servant, "When does Uncle Caleb usually wake up?"

"Normally, about half an hour later, but since Mrs. Harris came back, Mr. Caleb Harris has been waking up later with her. We can't say for sure."

Lola couldn't help but ask, "What about my grandpa?"

"Mr. David Harris just woke up last night. He's usually in a coma, so we don't know his exact schedule."

Lola put down her utensils. "I'll go for a morning run first and wait for Uncle Caleb and the others to wake up so we can eat together."

At 27 degrees Fahrenheit, even though Lola wore thick clothes, the biting cold wind still made her shiver.

But she gritted her teeth and jogged, thinking that if Caleb or David woke up and saw her running before dawn, they might think she was a disciplined and motivated kid.

So she toughed it out in the freezing wind, running around the garden for 40 minutes, but no one else woke up. She couldn't take it anymore and dashed back inside.

Half an hour later, Caleb was the first to come downstairs. When he saw Lola sitting at the dining table, clutching a glass, he couldn't help but ask, "Lola, why are you up so early? And what's up with your face? It's all red from the cold."

"I ran outside for an hour. It started snowing, so I stopped. Good morning, Uncle Caleb," Lola said, still puffing out white breaths.

Caleb was surprised to see her change so much, even getting up early for a morning run.

"It's a good habit, but when the weather's bad, you can work out indoors. Bonnie always does yoga inside."

Lola thought, 'If I had known, I would've grabbed a mat and done yoga somewhere noticeable indoors. There'd be heating, and I wouldn't have to run so hard, and I'd still get noticed.'

Caleb sat down at the dining table and had breakfast with her. "By the way, Lola, you mentioned on the phone last time that you have a boyfriend? When did that happen?"

"After Abella came back to the family." Lola deliberately lowered her eyes and then forced a smile after a moment. "It's been almost half a year. He chased me for seven years, from middle school to senior year. After the SATs, I decided to give it a shot."

"What does he do?" Caleb asked with concern, "Is he also a student like you?"

"Yeah, he's a freshman too. Because of his stellar grades, the school gave him special privileges. He only needs to go back for finals each semester, and he can get his diploma in four years," Lola couldn't help but add, "His family runs a department store chain with over 6,000 stores worldwide. Using his family's resources, he started a logistics company. Recently, he secured funding and now owns fifty cargo planes and exclusive rights to certain air routes."

Caleb knew what it meant for someone his age to own fifty cargo planes, especially with exclusive rights to certain air routes. It was no small feat.

"He has expanded his air logistics business nationwide. In terms of speed, it's the fastest in the country, surpassing other logistics companies, including those under the Medici family and the Bourbon family." Lola deliberately mentioned the Medici family and the Bourbon family for comparison.

Caleb nodded. "Impressive, young and capable."

"You're too kind, Uncle Caleb."

Lola thought, 'Caleb really knows how to lie. Compared to Phillipe, Henry is clearly much worse!'

"Since Abella is the true daughter of the Medici family, and I'm just an adopted daughter, the marriage contract between the Medici family and the Bourbon family naturally belongs to Abella." Lola put on an understanding look, not mentioning whether Phillipe was interested in her or how she had no choice but to choose Henry.

If she could, she only wanted to be Phillipe's wife!

"So Lola has a boyfriend," came David's cheerful voice from the door. "I haven't slept for long, and I didn't even know Lola has a boyfriend."

Bonnie supported David and smiled. "Dad, it's not too late to know now."

"Bring him over to meet us when you have time," David said with a smile, "Lola, I heard at the door that your boyfriend is in logistics. Impressive, having such a business mind as a freshman. The future looks bright."
