Chapter 28
"I'm not a coward," Abella chuckled.
She obviously didn't think that was a big deal. She had been to even worse places many times. When she was about to unbuckle her seatbelt...
"I'll help you." Phillipe approached her, his pleasant scent wafting towards her.
Up close, Abella noticed that he had extremely good features, with even his skin being overly delicate.
Phillipe raised his gaze and looked at her seriously with his deep eyes. "Let me know when you have time."
"Okay." Abella nodded lightly.
Phillipe got out of the car first, opened the door for her, hung the shoulder bag on her shoulder after she got out, and then handed over the bags with food. "Take it in case you get hungry tonight."
Abella wanted to refuse. But seeing his expression, she reached out and took the bags.
But the next second...
Her slender fingers accidentally touched Phillipe's hand. The soft touch made her heart skip a beat.
A special feeling surged up in her heart.
Seeing that she had taken the things and turned around to leave, Phillipe couldn't help calling out softly, "Abella."
"Yeah?"
Abella turned back only to hear him say, "She's not my girlfriend."
Abella was stunned and confused.
"She called to ask for my forgiveness," Phillipe explained.
Abella didn't say anything.
"I don't know her well," he continued.
"Oh, okay," Abella responded lightly.
"Be careful on your way." Phillipe put away all his feelings calmly. "If you feel scared, call me."
"No need."
After Abella gradually disappeared from sight, what appeared in Phillipe's mind were all images of her cute yet cold face.
Only as Abella entered the underground garage did she feel vibrations coming from her phone. It was Phillippe calling.
"Have you found your car?" Phillippe asked.
Abella found it amusing. "Just did. Shouldn't you be going now?"
"Well. I'm waiting for you," he replied.
"No need. I'll take exit B." Abella pressed the unlock button on her car key, "Got that? I'm driving now."
"Okay. Be careful on your way."
After hanging up with Abella, Phillipe called Gabriel again. "Clear my schedule tonight. I'm gonna visit the Medici family."
Gabriel was excited upon hearing this, "Mr. Bourbon, are you going to confront Miss Lola about what happened today? But she didn't mean any harm."
"Not a confrontation," Phillipe interrupted.
"So...you finally wanna listen to Sir Bourbon? You wanna invite Miss Lola to visit Sir Bourbon tomorrow? If Sir Bourbon knows about it, he'll definitely be happy!" Gabriel grinned.
Phillipe's gaze fell into the distance, his voice deep and steady. "I wanna see Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici."
"You...you're not suddenly having a change of mind and going to propose marriage, right?" Gabriel barely finished speaking before he felt the displeasure from Phillipe. He was completely confused, asking, "Then what is it that you want?"
"Break off the engagement."
"What? Break off the engagement?" Gabriel was almost scared out of his wits, and his face turned pale. "Mr. Bourbon, you're not joking with me, right?"
But Phillipe's tone didn't sound like a joke at all!
Frightened, Gabriel gulped nervously. "Mr. Bourbon, your engagement with Miss Lola was arranged by the elders from both families. If you go to break it off tonight, the Medici family will definitely feel humiliated. The friendship between the two families will crack.
"Miss Lola is the only daughter of the Medici family. She's been pampered and loved over the years. If you suddenly break off this engagement... She and her family's reputations will definitely be affected!"
'These are all serious problems!' Gabriel added in his heart.
Phillipe remained silent as he gazed quietly outside at bustling traffic.
"Mr. Bourbon, I know you don't like Miss Lola. Actually, neither do I. She's fake and insincere. I find Abella more adorable! But your marriage isn't just about your private affairs with Miss Lola; it involves two major families."
Gabriel recalled the scene of Ryan lying in bed. He thought, 'If Sir Bourbon knows about this, he'll definitely get furious.'
"Mr. Bourbon, please give it a second thought?" Gabriel tried to persuade him.
But Phillipe withdrew his gaze and said calmly, "Get some small gifts. I'll go tonight."
"Mr. Bourbon?"
Gabriel knew that once Phillipe made up his mind, no one could stop him. But Gabriel still tried to reason with him, "Even if you don't care about the Medici family and your friendship with them, or even Miss Lola. At least, think about Sir Bourbon, please?"
Ryan had been eagerly anticipating having great-grandchildren. But now, he still had no great-grandchildren, and the family would be at odds with the Medici family soon. Ryan definitely didn't wanna be an untrustworthy man.
But Phillipe refused to change his mind.
Gabriel knew that he couldn't do anything to help, so he sighed helplessly in his heart.
Except for Phillipe, no one else could make decisions regarding his engagement. If Ryan were too pushy, things would only get worse.
Gabriel couldn't help complaining in his heart, 'It was all Miss Lola's fault! She failed to leave a good impression on Mr. Bourbon. That's why Mr. Bourbon wanna break off the engagement.'
"Don't tell Grandpa. When he gets better, I'll tell him myself," Phillipe said.
Hearing this, Gabriel couldn't help wondering, 'Does he mean he'll do it anyway without letting Sir Bourbon know first?
'But news of breaking off an engagement like this will spread within moments. When Sir Bourbon finds out about it later, he'll surely fly into a rage. Hope word won't spread too quickly. Sir Bourbon really can't take any more bad news.'
At Long Island Manor...
After waiting for hours, Beckett and Kimberly finally saw Abella back home. They warmly pulled her over to the dining table and kept picking food for her.
Lola's eyes were red because of crying over Ryan's matter, so she didn't wanna see anyone for now. She claimed that she'd already eaten outside, which was a lie, and hid in her room for fear that her parents would have a bad impression of her.
After finishing dinner, Abella chatted with Beckett and Kimberly for a while before going upstairs for a shower.
Beckett and Kimberly sat on the sofa, drinking tea. After a short while, a maid suddenly came in. "Mr. Medici, Mrs. Medici. Mr. Bourbon is here!"
The maid was somewhat flustered when reporting this as Phillipe's name carried great weight within high society.
Rumors said that he was ruthless, cruel, and merciless, covering both illegal and legal areas with his power. Not only her but also other subordinates trembled at the mere sight of him from the bottom of their hearts.
Beckett and Kimberly looked at each other in surprise, asking themselves in their heart, 'Who? Phillipe? Why did he come? Does he know about Abella? Oh, no. This isn't good.'
"Go. Let him in." Beckett was a little caught off guard and hurriedly made eye contact with Kimberly. They suddenly didn't know what they should do now.
Jacob immediately went to lead Phillipe in.
Soon, Phillipe entered with several followers behind him.
He was extremely handsome with sharp eyebrows that exuded a sense of heroism; his black eyes emitted a fierce aura while his well-tailored suit perfectly matched his identity.
He appeared like an overbearing king who ruled over everything. As soon as he appeared, there was an overwhelming presence that was cold and aloof.
