Chapter 1044 I Want to Get Engaged to You

The person on the phone paused for a moment before continuing, "Zander had been camping out at the hospital for the past few days. He recorded a video of the victim's family crying outside the operating room and posted it online, claiming that Abella, who supposedly holds a Medical Authority title, was a fraud and had caused a death. Now, people have figured out he's your bodyguard. This afternoon, he committed suicide at home. A friend at the station mentioned that Zander sent you a text before he died."

Henry suddenly remembered the message. He had received a text earlier but hadn't looked at it closely. He opened it now and saw just one sentence:[Mr. Hall, let me end this.]

Anyone who didn't know better might think Henry had ordered him to commit suicide.

Now, the deaths of two of his subordinates were pointing directly at him.

At that moment, someone pushed open the study door, sounding a bit aggrieved, "Henry."

Henry turned to see Lola in her wheelchair, her eyes filled with tears. He quickly told the person on the phone, "We'll talk later."

After hanging up, he hurried over to her, concerned. "Why are you crying?"

He knelt in front of Lola, wiping away her tears. Her eyes were red from crying, making her look like a pitiful little bunny. His heart ached as he asked, "Didn't I tell you to wait for me? What happened? Why are you crying?"

"Are you tired of me?" Lola looked especially pitiful and aggrieved.

"Of course not."

"No matter how busy you were before, you would always drop everything to be with me if I needed you."

Henry felt a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry. I didn't handle things well today and neglected your feelings. What did you want to talk to me about? I'm free now."

"I..." Lola started, but Henry's phone rang again. She looked even more upset. "Forget it, take your call first."

Henry glanced at the caller ID. It was the mysterious person who had previously provided the medicine that saved Lola.

His intuition told him that this string of events was likely connected to this mysterious person.

"Wait for me a moment." Henry stepped out onto the balcony to take the call.

Lola had been sure he wouldn't answer, but now, it seemed like he would take any call, no matter who it was.

Was a phone call more important than her? Was it really necessary?

She was crying so much. Could it be that Henry had started to dislike her because of the videos Bonnie had exposed? Was he planning to give her the cold shoulder?

'Damn Bonnie!' She cursed in her head.

On the balcony, Henry questioned the mysterious caller, "Did you threaten Parker and Zander to get involved in this, then force them to commit suicide and frame me? What are you trying to achieve?"

"You promised me three things. This is the first," the mysterious caller, using a voice changer, spoke in a cold, emotionless tone. "You take the fall for this, and I'll consider it one task completed."

"I promised the Medici family that neither Lola nor I would do anything to harm them. The Medici family has nurtured and raised Lola over the years. I can't do this." Henry said.

Admitting that he had tampered with the cars to get back at Lola? That would not only tarnish his and Lola's reputations but also break the vow he made to the Medici family.

"This is just the first task, and you're already saying you can't do it. Don't forget, I saved Lola's life!" The mysterious caller sounded annoyed.

"I've said before, I won't do anything that involves killing or harming innocent people," Henry replied firmly. "Do you have a grudge against the Medici family? Were you behind the fire all those years ago? Are you trying to make me take the fall because they're closing in on you?"

"Henry, this isn't up to you." The mysterious caller didn't answer his questions but instead issued a threat. "I can save Lola's life, and I can make her wish she were dead. There's no room for negotiation. If you don't take the fall within a day, you'll regret it!"

Henry hung up, ignoring the threat.

Back in the study, Lola was still sitting in her wheelchair, crying.

Henry knelt by her feet again, about to comfort her, when she threw her arms around his neck.

"Henry, did you see the news trending online? Do you dislike me now? Do you think I'm a bad person?" Lola sobbed, "I admit I've made many mistakes in the past, but I want to change. I want to live a good life with you."

Henry's heart warmed. He gently stroked her hair. "I haven't seen the news. Is that why you're crying?"

Lola nodded, looking as pitiful as a child. "You've been so distant these past few days."

Henry smiled, realizing the misunderstanding. "A lot has been happening lately."

He was dealing with family pressure, managing his company, and now someone was trying to frame him.

Despite being stretched thin, he had tried his best to make time for her. He hadn't realized she felt neglected.

"Don't worry. No matter what people say, your past is behind us. Now, you're Lola Flores, not Lola Medici. I don't care how they judge you. I like you, and that's enough." Henry wiped away her tears.

Lola pouted, "Then hug me."

Henry was surprised by her cuteness today. It was rare for her to be so forward.

He lifted her and sat down on a nearby armchair. "Is this what you wanted to talk about?"

Lola nodded, then shook her head. "There's one more thing..."

She knew that last time, Henry had mistakenly hit Elsa to stand up for her. This time, Elsa had beaten her up in the mall hallway. Knowing Henry's way of handling things, he would probably just give Elsa a verbal warning, considering he had hit the wrong person first.

So, she wanted to use this opportunity to get Henry to propose!

"Henry, I want to get engaged to you."

Lola's face turned a bit red as she buried it in Henry's chest, her voice shy but sincere.

"When the Medicis locked me in the basement and tortured me, you were the one who saved me. When I faced negative news multiple times, you stood by me, never leaving my side, facing everything with me."

"I've thought it through. I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

"Will you agree?"

Lola looked up at Henry with shy but earnest eyes.

Henry felt a jolt of electricity run through him. He never expected the girl he had loved for six and a half years to propose to him.

"Actually, your sincerity has already moved me. I want to be with you, never to part." Lola looked into his eyes, and after speaking, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.
