Chapter 789 KnightStrategist is Right Here
"Alright, let's get this show on the road!" Clarence hit the timer on his phone.
Lola was sweating bullets, staring at the Goboard like it was a math test she didn't study for. 'Just two minutes, right? If I play it cool and slow, even if I mess up, I can just blame it on my headache. No biggie, right?'
Abella saw her move and casually plopped a piece down, like she was just killing time.
Lola was racking her brain on where to place her next piece.
"Enid, is she really a student of KnightStrategist? The game just started, and she's already taking forever."
"Is she just wasting time?"
"Does she even know how to play Go?"
"Isn't she supposed to have a headache?" Enid shushed them and whispered, "You guys wanted this match. Give her a break. Keep it down, or you'll mess her up."
"Right, almost forgot about her headache." The crowd went quiet again, eyes glued to the game. After a bit, someone couldn't help but comment.
"She's all over the place."
"Is this some new Go strategy?"
"Maybe KnightStrategist taught her this to throw off her opponent?"
Abella kept playing like she had all the time in the world. A minute ticked by, and even though Lola's moves were scattered, Abella started tightening her game.
Everyone watched, jaws dropping, as Abella captured more and more of Lola's pieces.
By the end, Lola had just two sad black pieces left on the board.
Abella, with her white pieces, had clearly wiped the floor with her.
"Time's up," Clarence called, stopping the timer.
Everyone was in shock.
"Is this really KnightStrategist's student?"
"I thought it was some genius strategy. She really doesn't know how to play!"
"It's not that she doesn't know; she just got schooled by Abella."
"Is this all she's got?"
"She's making KnightStrategist look bad."
"I thought she was supposed to be amazing."
Enid was floored by Lola's total defeat. She tried to cover for her. "It's gotta be her headache. She's not feeling well, so she's off her game."
Henry, watching from the sidelines, had already figured it out. Lola could play Go, but she was nowhere near Abella's level.
"This birthday party's turning out to be pretty wild. Let's see who dares to challenge KnightStrategist next."
An old voice piped up from the crowd.
Abella turned and smiled. "Mr. Edward, you made it?"
"Good thing I got here early, or I'd have missed this epic showdown. Who's got the guts to challenge you in Go these days?" The speaker was Clifford, a world-famous music maestro.
He was a whiz with all kinds of instruments and a legend in both the piano and violin worlds.
When it came to the violin, he, Stringless, and Pagnani were the top dogs, the legends of the international violin scene, representing the peak of 21st-century violin artistry.
And that’s not even touching on his other musical achievements.
The arrival of such a big shot naturally turned heads.
People weren't just surprised to see him; they were floored by how chummy he was with Abella, like a grandpa doting on his granddaughter.
But the real kicker? His words left everyone gobsmacked. This teenage girl, Abella, was actually KnightStrategist?
No way!
"Mr. Edward, did you just say she's KnightStrategist? The Go whiz?"
"Isn't KnightStrategist supposed to be a dude? How could it be a young girl? And such a pretty one at that."
"Didn't Lola say KnightStrategist was her teacher? The teacher's right here, and she doesn't even recognize her?"
"What the heck is going on?"
Lola's face went white as a sheet, staring at Abella like she'd seen a ghost.
Abella didn't even bother denying it.
Henry was just as shocked. He never expected Abella to have such a secret identity.
Last time he visited the Caleb family in Verdania, he found out Abella was a big deal in the medical world and had the title of Anika. But today, it felt like he was meeting a whole new person, now with the added title of Go master.
This was a level that many pro Go players spent their whole lives trying to reach but never did.
And she was just a kid. Unreal.
Elsa was even more blown away. Just a minute ago, she had asked Clarence when KnightStrategist would show up and had hinted that the Goboard Abella set up was too basic. She wondered if KnightStrategist would find it too easy.
Little did she know, the person who set up that Goboard was KnightStrategist herself!
"Someone just asked me if I'd take Go King as a student if he wanted me to be his teacher," Clarence said with a grin, "I think everyone now knows the answer to that."
The crowd was too stunned to say a word.
If Abella was KnightStrategist, with all her achievements, why would she need to become Clarence's student? She could start her own school and teach her own stuff!
"When did I ever mentor you?" Abella's eyes locked on Lola, and she asked casually, "And when did I ever give you a Go set?"
Lola's face turned completely ashen.
She hadn't seen Enid in years and thought a little bragging wouldn't hurt.
Plus, she had told Enid to keep it on the down-low before boasting.
She figured if she played with Abella for two minutes and bailed before KnightStrategist showed up, she'd be in the clear. She never imagined Abella was KnightStrategist!
"Lola, is she really KnightStrategist?" Enid asked, totally confused.
Lola was her good friend and had no reason to lie, but Clifford wouldn't call Abella KnightStrategist for no reason.
So, what was the real deal?
Someone in the crowd stood up and asked Abella, "So, you're not Lola's teacher, and you didn't give her a Go set. Then where did the photo of the Go set on her phone come from?"
"Is she lying?"
