Chapter 661 Do You Have Anything to Say?

"Steven, what the heck, man? Maria's been busting her butt taking care of me for eighteen years. Sure, she might not be a superstar, but she works her tail off," Lola said, trying to keep it real. "Yeah, I messed up talking smack about Abella in front of everyone, but that’s got nothing to do with Maria. If you’re mad, take it out on me, not her."

"You and her are pretty tight, huh?" Steven said, giving Lola a look that was hard to read.

Lola nodded. "When Dad was swamped with work, Mom was always with him. Maria was the one who stuck by me. Fever, sickness, you name it, she was there through all the highs and lows of my life."

"So, you're saying she's more than just help?"

"She's like family to me, Steven. Don’t be so harsh on her. She’s been nothing but good to me," Lola said, feeling a bit down. "Maria works her butt off every month, and you just took her whole paycheck. Please, don’t do that again."

Just then, Patrick knocked on the door. "Mr. Medici, Mr. Phillips from the jewelry company is here."

"Send him in."

"Right away, Mr. Medici."

Patrick brought Quentin Phillips in. Seeing Lola looking all upset, Quentin couldn’t help but joke, "Ms. Medici, what brings you here today? And what happened to you?"

"I took a spill. Are you here to make fun of me, Mr. Phillips?" Lola shot back with a grin.

"My future boss, I wouldn’t dare! You’d probably fire me," Quentin laughed.

Lola was puzzled and looked at Steven. 'What’s he talking about?'

Quentin caught her look and smiled at Steven. "Mr. Medici hasn’t told Ms. Medici about her future gig running the jewelry company?"

Lola’s eyes widened in surprise. 'Running the jewelry company? Steven wants me to do that? For real?'

She used to be jealous of Abella for getting the family fashion company, but now she had a shot at something even bigger.

Steven still cared about her.

"Ms. Medici’s face says she had no clue." Quentin chuckled. "Mr. Medici has set everything up for you. Once you graduate, I’ll..."

Steven cut him off, cool as ever, "That was the old plan."

Quentin was taken aback. 'What’s he mean by that?'

Lola was just as confused. 'Does Steven not want me to run the company anymore?'

"The future’s up in the air. The plan’s off," Steven said, looking at Quentin. "I called you here to let you know. You and the team can stop working on it."

Steven had originally roped in Quentin and some other pros to help Lola take over the jewelry company. Everything was set.

But Lola had let him down this time.

Quentin was floored. Looking at Steven, he knew he wasn’t joking. Then he glanced at Lola, who looked crushed.

Quentin couldn’t help but say, "Mr. Medici, we’re already halfway through this."

"Lola’s still young. It’s too soon to talk about it," Steven said firmly.

Seeing that Steven had made up his mind, Quentin kept his mouth shut.

"Lola, Mr. Phillips and I have some stuff to go over. You should head back and get some rest."

"Okay." Lola had no idea how she managed to stand up or leave Steven's office.

She never thought Steven had secretly planned for her to run the company after she jokingly said she wanted to be like Abella.

But she also didn’t think that talking a little trash about Abella would get her in so much trouble. She lost her allowance, her brand suppliers, and now the chance to inherit the company.

She thought, 'How could Steven do this! It’s just some harmless gossip about Abella. Why is Steven so biased!'

On the way back, the more Lola thought about it, the more upset and angry she got. She even started thinking Abella shouldn’t have come back to the family.

When Maria saw her come back and lock herself in her room, she was confused.

'Did Abella say something bad about her to Steven?' Thinking this, Maria sent a video of Lola applying medicine to Steven, pretending to be worried.

Maria: [Mr. Steven Medici, Ms. Medici locked herself in her room as soon as she got back and won’t let me in to change her bandages. Did something happen? Ms. Medici was crying in pain while applying the medicine today. It really broke my heart. I hope she gets better soon.]

Seeing that Steven hadn’t replied, Maria added: [Mr. Steven Medici, what time will you be back tonight? Can you check on Ms. Medici when you return? She will definitely listen to you.]

After finishing his talk with Quentin, Steven opened his phone and played the video Maria sent.

In the video, Lola’s voice was muffled from the pain, and she was crying non-stop.

Reading Maria’s messages, Steven called her directly. "Do you have anything to say about the video Abella has?"

Maria was stunned. She couldn’t believe Abella had shown that video to Steven.

"Mr. Steven Medici, I don’t know what you’re talking about," Maria said, gripping her phone tightly, feeling panicked.

"Do I need to send the video to you so you can see what you’ve done?" Steven’s voice was cold and questioning.

Maria’s legs went weak with fear. She never expected that brat Abella to actually show the video to Steven!

She thought, 'What now? No, this doesn’t seem like something Abella would do. What if Steven is just trying to trick me?'

So Maria defended herself, "Mr. Steven Medici, I really don’t know what you’re talking about. Which video? What did I do to make you misunderstand? I can explain."

Steven didn’t expect her to be so cunning and said coldly, "So you’re not admitting it?"

Maria felt even more uncertain. 'Has Steven really seen the video? Otherwise, he wouldn’t speak with such certainty and coldness. But what if he hasn’t seen it and is just trying to trick me? What should I do? Should I admit it or not?'

In almost a second, Maria had an answer. 'No, I can’t admit it unless Steven shows me the video. Then I can pretend to repent. What if Steven doesn’t have the video? Yes, I can’t panic or be intimidated by Steven.'
