Chapter 966 No Merits at All
"It's really good."
Saskia looked absolutely adorable eating the pastries, and Dennis found himself mesmerized by how gracefully she managed to make even the simple act of eating look enchanting.
"Dennis, you should try some too," Abella deliberately interrupted, pulling him back from his reverie.
Staring at someone for too long was impolite.
Dennis realized this and quickly averted his gaze, grabbing a random pastry and shoving it into his mouth. "Not bad."
Saskia couldn't help but make a slight face as she watched him eat the pastry.
"Saskia absolutely hates pineapple."
Abella's comment made Dennis pause mid-chew—the pastry in his mouth was pineapple-filled!
"Dennis, if you likes it, you should have more."
Abella's words made Dennis quickly swallow the pineapple pastry. "No, no, actually now that I think about it, it's not as good as those strawberry ones we had together last time. The flavor's just... off."
The brothers were amazed at how quickly he'd changed his tune, their lips curving into knowing smiles.
"You all should all try some," Saskia said, lifting the plate and offering it to them.
Abella took one, and the other brothers followed suit.
Dennis watched them longingly, kicking himself for not waiting—he'd missed the chance to have her personally offer him one.
"Pastries taste so much better when Saskia serves them," Winston said between bites, shooting Dennis an amused look.
Ethan joined in the teasing. "Do you have a boyfriend, Saskia? If not, I know some great guys I could introduce you to."
"That's very kind of you, Ethan, but I'm focused on my career right now. Romance isn't on my agenda," Saskia politely declined.
Talking with these brothers was definitely more relaxing than dealing with Dennis.
"What's your type then? I know plenty of accomplished young bachelors—I could keep an eye out for you," Steven chimed in with rare playfulness. "I'm guessing not the arrogant, moody, devil-may-care type?"
Dennis thought bitterly, 'Steven, you might as well just say my name!'
Saskia smiled softly. "I'm not sure who I'll end up with, but definitely not the type you just described."
Dennis could practically hear his heart shattering.
The brothers exchanged amused glances, clearly enjoying the show.
"I agree—that type is completely unreliable. Abella's fiancé, on the other hand, is excellent. At least he's passed all our tests," Ethan said with a slight smile.
"Abella's fiancé is absolutely perfect—handsome, devoted to her, always puts her first, and he's accomplished enough to match her. Men like that are rarer than hen's teeth," Saskia said earnestly.
Everyone looked surprised. "You've met Abella's fiancé?"
"We said hello when Abella was video-calling him," Saskia explained, then turned to Abella with a radiant smile that made Dennis unable to look away.
Damn it, how could she look so beautiful when she smiled!
Certainly, you're all outstanding as well," Saskia quickly added, worried that praising only Philippe might make the others feel left out.
She continued sincerely, "Steven is calm and mature, humble and courteous, and exceptionally wise. Ethan is handsome and refined, naturally charismatic, and a born leader. Winston is witty and charming, kind-hearted and talented. Anyone who ends up with you would be truly lucky."
"Saskia, you're too generous with compliments!" Winston laughed heartily. "I'll be smiling in my sleep tonight."
"Getting such high praise from you is genuinely flattering," Ethan beamed.
"You're pretty wonderful yourself, Saskia. I'm sure you'll find someone who truly understands you," Steven added with a gentle smile.
Dennis couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment.
Why didn't she mention him?
Did he have no redeeming qualities whatsoever?
Just as he was about to ask Saskia about it, Winston announced, "We've been chatting for quite a while. We shouldn't keep you from your girl time. Steven, Ethan, Dennis—let's make ourselves scarce."
Before Dennis could get a word in, Saskia had already linked arms with Abella. "Could you show me around?"
Abella smiled. "Absolutely."
Saskia happily walked away with her arm linked through Abella's.
"Saskia is absolutely adorable. I had no idea she thought so highly of me—I'm over the moon," Winston said deliberately, then picked up another pastry. "Funny how this doesn't taste nearly as sweet as when Saskia handed it to me."
Dennis fought the urge to punch him.
"The three of us got compliments, but poor Dennis..." Ethan said, watching Dennis with obvious amusement. "Dennis, just how bad is your reputation that such an articulate young woman couldn't find a single nice thing to say about you?"
Dennis clenched his fists tighter.
"Alright, stop teasing Dennis," Steven intervened.
Dennis felt a wave of gratitude—Steven was the best!
Just as he was about to thank Steven for defending him against the other two, Steven continued, "Dennis really isn't good enough for a girl like her anyway."
Dennis was speechless.
Ethan and Winston burst into laughter—Steven's deadpan delivery was the most devastating blow of all.
In the garden, Saskia stared in amazement at the exotic flowers and rare plants surrounding them.
"Your family really goes all out—so many precious flowers and plants."
Even the Fuller family wasn't extravagant enough to casually plant such delicate, expensive specimens in their garden.
Saskia crouched down, unable to contain her awe. "Just these few plants alone could buy someone a decent car... This is seriously impressive wealth."
Talk about living large.
"Like them? I'll dig up a couple for you to take home," Abella said, and she wasn't just being polite—she actually called for small pots and a trowel and started digging.
Saskia's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Don't worry, my parents would be thrilled if I dug up some flowers for a friend. See anything else you like? I'll dig those up too."
Saskia couldn't help but laugh, feeling incredibly fortunate to have such a friend.
Abella was different from everyone else—no beating around the bush, just refreshingly direct.
That kind of straightforward personality was truly unique and endearing.
"This is more than enough! These two will keep me plenty busy. I've already eaten your food and now I'm taking your flowers—I'm being pretty shameless here!" Saskia laughed.
After Abella finished digging, she had someone carry the plants to Saskia's car, then washed her hands and continued the tour. "What's there to be formal about? What's mine is yours."
Those words made Saskia's eyes well up. She remembered how, when Abella had suffered at the Wilson family, she'd told her countless times that everything the Fuller family had was hers too—including her parents, if Abella wanted.
She'd repeatedly urged Abella to leave the Wilson family, even convincing her parents to consider adopting her.
But Abella had stayed because of Mrs. Wilson's condition.
Now Abella was returning those exact same words to her.
