Chapter 870 There Are Clues
"Hey, there's still barbecue left!" Saskia replied to the message and then added, "So, how's it going with Phillipe? Have you held hands yet? Any kisses?"
"Why do you wanna know?"
"You're blushing..." Saskia said excitedly. "So, there has been progress? That's awesome! He must be pretty great."
Otherwise, how could he have won Abella's heart?
"He's pretty great," Abella admitted.
She didn't realize that a faint smile appeared on her face when she talked about Phillipe.
Saskia was grinning from ear to ear. "When are you gonna introduce him to me?"
"In the next couple of days."
Saskia was thrilled. "I can't wait to see what kind of guy you like."
Mentioning him reminded Abella that she had forgotten to tell him she was staying at Saskia's place.
Just as she took out her phone, Saskia leaned over curiously. "Let me see what name you saved him under."
"It's just his name." She had always saved him as Phillipe.
"Why not save him as 'hubby' or 'darling' or something like that?"
"Having a name is good enough."
Before, Phillipe was just a long string of unfamiliar numbers in her phone.
She dialed his number, but he didn't answer, and the call eventually disconnected.
"If he's in the country, he might not be awake yet. It's almost 1 AM here, so it should be around 8 AM there."
"He's in Verdania."
"Then he should be asleep," Saskia explained. "Verdania is an hour ahead of us, so it's already 2 AM there. Who else would be up this late, having a midnight snack like us? He must be asleep. Phillipe is a busy guy with a lot to handle during the day. He must be exhausted and just crashed."
Just then, Abella's phone vibrated with a video call invitation.
Saskia's eyes widened.
Abella answered the call and saw the warm lights of the hotel and Phillipe in a bathrobe, his hair still wet from a shower.
The bathroom door behind him was open, and steam was wafting out.
Phillipe immediately explained, "I just took a shower and missed your call."
He was about to ask if she had returned to the hotel when he noticed someone else beside her.
"Hi, I'm Saskia, Abella's good friend. Nice to meet you. You're so handsome, and you two look great together!"
Abella stayed silent.
"Thank you," Phillipe responded politely to Abella's friend. "Hello, I'm Phillipe, Abella's fiancé."
"I know. Nice to meet you. Abella and I haven't seen each other in a while. It's not safe for her to go back alone this late. I hurt my foot and can't take her back. Could you approve her staying here? I promise to take good care of her."
So that was why she called him.
Phillipe looked at Abella, seeming to understand her thoughts, and said gently, "Thank you, Ms. Fuller, for taking care of her."
"No problem at all. I'm happy to do it. You two chat, I'll go eat." Saskia gave them some space.
"Get some sleep." Abella was about to hang up when Phillipe spoke again, "It's getting colder there. Make sure to cover up well at night and don't catch a cold."
"Okay."
"If the blankets aren't enough, ask Ms. Fuller for more. Turn on the heater and don't stay up too late. Get some rest."
"Got it."
"If you can't sleep or need anything, call me anytime. I'm always here."
"Okay."
Phillipe looked at her affectionately. "Goodnight, I'll be thinking of you."
Saskia couldn't stop smiling.
Abella saw her trying to hold back her laughter and calmly said, "Goodnight."
Phillipe felt a bit disappointed as she was about to hang up. Tonight, Abella hadn't noticed his wet hair.
"Remember to dry your hair."
Suddenly, Abella's concern made Phillipe's eyes light up, his gaze warming. "Okay."
Abella cared about him!
Abella still had feelings for him!
Abella noticed he hadn't dried his hair!
After Abella hung up, Saskia finally burst out laughing. "You two are so sweet! Is this what being in love is like? You're like a gentle lamb, and he's like a warm-hearted hunk."
No trace of her cold demeanor in public!
Both of their vibes softened!
They didn't know how long they chatted, but the next morning, Abella's phone vibrated nonstop on the nightstand. She saw it was Theo calling.
"Ms. Medici, are you awake? There's a guy named Cruz connected to the fire years ago. He'll be at an underground auction tonight at 8 PM. Should I get some people to bring him in?"
Abella didn't expect to find a lead on the fire now. "Don't alert him. Just the two of us will go."
Theo was about to say two people might be too few, but then he remembered Abella's skills. She could take on a hundred men alone, let alone one Cruz or even ten or twenty.
"I'll get us two entry passes. I'll pick you up at the hotel at 7 PM, and we'll go to the auction together."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Abella couldn't believe the investigation into the fire was finally making progress. Before, when Sam and the others followed leads, they always hit dead ends, either losing the trail or going in the wrong direction.
It felt like there was always a pair of eyes in the dark, watching their every move, ready to interfere when things got too close to the truth.
Every time the truth was about to surface, something would happen.
Tonight, she had to catch Cruz and find out what really happened.
Meanwhile, Louie knocked on Dennis's door, perhaps afraid of being blamed, and quickly got to the point. "Mr. Medici, we've found Cruz."
"Come in," Dennis's voice was still groggy.
Louie opened the door and saw the room was dark, the curtains drawn, blocking out the light.
He respectfully reported, "There's an underground auction at 8 PM tonight. Cruz will be there for something he wants to buy. It's a good opportunity. I'll have people set up an ambush and wait for the right moment to capture him."
"Don't mess it up."
"Understood." Louie knew Dennis was determined to get this guy.
The previous lead had been disrupted by that girl, but now he had finally found a new lead. He hoped this time everything would go smoothly.
Abella's phone rang again, this time it was Sam. "Ms. Medici, while investigating the fire, I found something else. I'll send it to you. It's related to Nicole."
Abella's tone was calm. "Okay, send it over."
