Chapter 761 Something Happened
The next morning, Abella had just finished her breakfast when her phone buzzed.
"Ms. Medici, we got a problem. Some folks are saying our skincare stuff messed up their faces. They're outside our office with their families and the media, making a scene with banners and all. Our PR team is on it, but these people are dead set that our products did the damage. The head of PR says you gotta decide—do we sue, call the cops, or get security to kick them out?"
"Our skincare products caused issues?" Abella was hearing this for the first time.
"Yeah, they got receipts, some even have surveillance screenshots of them using our stuff at home, and they showed test results saying our products have banned substances causing allergic reactions and inflammation."
"Is the testing agency legit?"
"It's a well-known agency in Verdania, so it should be reliable."
"Our products go through all the right channels. How could they have banned substances? Where did things go wrong?"
It was crucial to note that the main skincare line of Beauty Skincare Group was her baby. If there were issues, people around her who used them would've had problems ages ago. How come only now someone’s speaking up?
"What do they want?" Abella asked straight up.
"They wanna see you and have you explain in front of the media."
"I'll head over." She hung up, told Bonnie, and left.
Not long after she left, Bonnie got wind that something went down at Beauty Skincare Group, and she figured out why Abella had rushed off.
At the company's entrance, a curly-haired woman was ranting to reporters, "Their whitening mask said it’d make my skin fair and bright. I used it for a month, and my face is wrecked! Look at how red it is, with all these pimples and pustules. How am I supposed to face people now?"
A reporter, all excited, asked, "Do you have any proof that their skincare products are problematic?"
"I took this mask to CCT Company for testing. CCT Company is fair and reputable. The test results showed their mask has three banned substances, which caused my face to have an allergic reaction and inflammation."
Another 21-year-old college student was wearing a mask the whole time. After much coaxing from the reporters, she tearfully took it off.
Everyone saw her face was frighteningly red, practically disfigured.
"Is your face like this because of Beauty Skincare Group too?" A reporter shoved a mic in the girl's face.
The girl nodded. "I heard that Beauty Skincare Group's main product line was developed by the person in charge of the company and is the best skincare product in the brand. Seeing so many people online praising this line, I couldn't resist taking out a loan to buy the entire set, spending a total of two thousand dollars. Because this price is really high for a college student like me, I used it every day. Even when my skin started having issues, I couldn't bear to stop, always hoping that one day I would have smooth skin like in the advertisements. But after a month, the burning sensation on my face got worse. It felt rough and dry even without touching it. I got scared and went to see a dermatologist, only to find out I had developed inflammation! The doctor said my face needs systematic treatment, but it will never fully recover to how it was before."
The college student couldn't hold back anymore and started crying.
Tears streamed down her red face, making it burn even more, so she had to wipe them away super gently.
More and more people started gathering around.
"My friends have used Beauty Skincare Group's stuff and said it was awesome. How could this happen?"
"Maybe it's a different batch? At first, everyone thought it was good, but later the company switched to cheaper materials and added banned substances to make more money. What's so strange about that?"
"But Beauty Skincare Group is a big company. They worked hard to build their reputation. Why risk their brand image for a bit of cash? This kind of exposure is bad for their brand development."
"Are you defending Beauty Skincare Group because they sent you? Are you an employee of Beauty Skincare Group?"
"What nonsense, I just happened to be passing by."
The crowd kept buzzing, some even arguing. More and more reporters swarmed the scene, eager to get the scoop on what was going down at Beauty Skincare Group.
Abella parked her car near the company and immediately drew attention as she walked in.
She was too young and too beautiful. Her stunning face was a stark contrast to the nearly disfigured faces of the complainants.
Seeing Abella arrive, a group of staff from the main building quickly ran out. Before the reporters could catch them for questions, they rushed to Abella and respectfully greeted her, "Ms. Medici."
Everyone was in shock. Abella looked like a teenager, yet she was a big shot in a major company?
"Ms. Medici, you're finally here!" Beauty Skincare Group's Vice President Celine Diaz whispered, "There are over twenty media outlets present."
"Where are the people claiming disfigurement?" Abella's aura was commanding and cold.
All the reporters immediately rushed to her, holding up microphones and bombarding her with questions.
"Who are you? Can you speak on behalf of Beauty Skincare Group?"
"I see Vice President Ms. Diaz is very respectful to you. Is your position higher than hers?"
"We heard Beauty Skincare Group's products can ruin faces. Have you used them?"
"Is Beauty Skincare Group adding banned substances to their products to make quick profits, regardless of consumer safety?"
"Will you take responsibility for the disfigured victims?"
"How do you plan to handle this situation?"
Dozens of cameras were pointed at Abella, and dozens of microphones were practically shoved in her face. The reporters were relentless, not giving her a moment to think.
"Who claims to be disfigured?" Abella's voice was cold and commanding.
The twenty-some media outlets made way.
The curly-haired woman angrily rushed to the front. "We are the victims! Who are you in Beauty Skincare Group? Are you qualified to discuss a solution with us? We want to see the highest person in charge of Beauty Skincare Group!"
