Chapter 342 Return for a Proper Lesson

"Why don't you come over and play a couple of games with your grandparents another day?" Mr. Bourbon invited with a smile.

Abella obediently replied, "Okay."

Beside her, Mr. Allen aAurorably smoothed things over, "Who would have thought that Calla would misrecognize people and get deceived. Fortunately, this Go set ultimately ended up in the hands of the old lady and although the giver was different, the sentiment was a good one."

Phillipe's eyes darkened, should he be ashamed? "The gift's significance varies with the giver," Phillipe said indifferently. "This present from Abella to her grandmother-in-law is fundamentally different from one Miss Allen might offer."

Mr. Allen's smile froze for a moment, before he quickly agreed with a smile, saying; “yes, yes, yes.”

Phillipe's gaze settled on Calla. "Miss Allen has not yet formally apologized to my fiancée."

Calla was confused. “Apologize? What for?”

"Earlier, Miss Allen was aggressive and disrespectful, which frightened my timid fiancée," he claimed.

Hearing Phillipe's words, Calla was infuriated! Timid, Abella? Since when was she timid? She was outrageously arrogant, backed by the Bourbon family, and now had the audacity to claim she was timid?

But as this was the Bourbon family residence, Mr. Allen scolded perfunctorily, "Calla, it's not that I want to criticize you, but you misunderstood Abella's kind intentions without knowing the full story. You should apologize to her right away."

Calla, although resentful internally, had to acquiesce since her grandfather insisted. She forced a begrudging apology: "Sorry, my attitude earlier was improper."

Whether or not Abella forgave her, Mr. Allen swiftly changed the subject: "Abella is magnanimous, and I'm sure she won't take it to heart. What’s important for you is to remember your position in future conduct, to think before you speak and act."

Calla feigned obedience, "Yes, I will take Grandfather’s advice to heart."

"Alright, it's getting late, you two should also head back and rest," Madam Bourbon dismissed them, not wanting to see their faces any longer.

Mr. Bourbon stood up with a smiling expression, "After you return, reflect on your grandfather's words. The older generation has experience far beyond your years, and young people must learn to be cautious in their speech and conduct."

His words carried multiple implications: First was his dissatisfaction with Calla's behavior.

Second was a reminder for Calla to be respectful towards Abella, who is now under the Bourbon's protection.

Third was a warning not to offend someone of his generation, as he had many ways to make the Allen family regret it.

Calla hadn't expected Mr. Bourbon to be so protective of Abella. She bowed her head and admitted her mistake obediently, "Thank you, Mr. Bourbon, for your guidance; I was indeed impertinent earlier."

Mr. Allen laughed heartily, "I'm so sorry, we spoiled her as the only granddaughter in the family!"

He had intended to defuse the situation with a laugh, but Mr. Bourbon's smile seemed colder than before.

"We only have this one granddaughter-in-law. Thankfully, she hasn't turned out to be fragile or overbearing; instead, she's sincere and straightforward, perhaps to a fault, and can be easily bullied. Later on, I'll have a word with her. You too should take the time to educate your granddaughter properly while she's still young and teachable."

"Yes, yes, I'll certainly take that into consideration." Mr. Allen's face was flush with embarrassment, but he still adhered to social niceties. "Calla was brash today. Once she has learned her lesson, we will surely pay a visit to apologize."

"No need for a visit!" Mr. Bourbon's remark rooted the two members of the Allen family to the spot.

"My wife hasn't fully recovered yet, and she prefers peace and quiet. Scott, please see them out." After saying this, Mr. Bourbon showed no further interest in engaging with them. His demeanor was quite the opposite of the warm hospitality he had shown at the beginning.

The butler quickly offered up a board game with both hands, "Mr. Allen, Miss Allen, please follow me."

Calla's complexion was beyond unpleasant as she accepted the board game and cast a reluctant look at the living room.

Mr. Bourbon and his wife were smiling warmly, conversing with Abella seated between them; all appearing as one happy family.

Moments ago, Mr. Bourbon had been so blunt with the Allens, but now, with Abella, he seemed like a completely different person!

"Miss Allen, please." The butler gestured invitingly.

Calla clenched her teeth as she left, something she had never endured before.

Previously, she was always the one bullying others; today, to be on the receiving end was a first.

Once in the luxury of her family's car, she pulled out her phone and composed a message: "Find out which class Abella is in!" She was determined to make Abella rue this day.

After a while, her phone vibrated twice with a new message.

Incredulous, she muttered, "A straight-A student training to be a doctor?"

Scoffing, she thought: Surely all that studying has made her daft! What proportion of modern medicine to doctors actually exist in top-tier hospitals? How often does a doctor wield a scalpel in the operating room?

After graduation, what awaits her but prescribing and picking out medicines in some minor clinic, another lowly worker at the bottom rung.

How could the Bourbon family ever take interest in such a person?

Back in the living room, Madame Bourbon patted Abella's hand, "Abella, I'm sorry for the discomfort you had to endure."

Abella gave a slight smile, "I wasn't mistreated, you all stood up for me."

Warnings had been issued where needed. Apologies were procured, albeit insincerely. But after all, it served to slap the Allen family's pride, and to dwell on it any longer would make them appear petty.

When Philippe's father was a child celebrating his birthday, many guests had come to their house. He was only four years old at the time, playing and chasing with his friends when he fell into the swimming pool. The incident occurred far from the main venue, and fortunately, Mr. Allen saved him.

Abella came to understand that there was such a debt of gratitude involved. No wonder Mr. Allen had indulged his granddaughter's wild behavior earlier, and that Calla had dared to speak so insolently.

They were relying on the fact that the Bourbon family wouldn't take action against someone who had saved their life. Which was truly shameless.

"Going forward, if she dares to bully you at school, you must tell me right away," Madame Bourbon instructed with concern. "If necessary, I'll have her transferred to another school, so she won't be a nuisance to you."

Abella was indifferent, "It's fine, the school is big, we may not even cross paths."

Even if they did meet, she wouldn't be the one at a disadvantage.

Just then, the butler saw off the guests and went to the kitchen to bring back a bowl of herbal medicine for Madame Bourbon.

With utmost respect, he said, "Madam, your medicine is ready."

Abella detected the faint bitterness in the air, unmistakably the scent of the herbs she had compounded. Her gaze shifted to the butler, "How much of the medicine is left?"

"Enough for one week, young madam," he replied.

"I'll have someone bring some fresh supplies in a couple of days. Grandmother's condition is improving, so we might reduce the dosage a bit."

Hearing this, Madame Bourbon's face lit up with joy, "Really?"
