Chapter 776 You Are Also the First

Phillipe was mid-sentence when another call popped up on the car screen. Just a bunch of numbers, no name.

"Is that her number?" Abella chuckled. "You got it memorized?"

He hesitated, not sure what to say.

He didn't need a name to know who it was.

He'd known that number forever.

"No, don't get the wrong idea. She's had the same number since we were kids." Phillipe quickly hung up.

"You've known her since you were kids?" Abella's look made Phillipe slam on the brakes, scrambling to explain, "We know each other, but we're not close. Like, no connection at all."

"She's your buddy's sister, and you got her number memorized? Didn't you grow up together? How can you say there's no connection?"

"Her family asked us to look after her a long time ago."

Seeing Abella nod knowingly, Phillipe got even more desperate. "Not like that. Her family had some issues."

He grabbed Abella's hand. "They moved to Verdania ages ago. We haven't seen each other in years."

"That's a shame."

"Abella." Phillipe was really freaking out. "Don't get the wrong idea. I'll block her, okay?"

"Yeah, right. She's your buddy's sister." Abella pretended to be troubled.

"Then I'll change my number."

"That won't work either. Your number's tied to so much stuff, like your bank and WhatsApp."

"I'll re-link everything."

"What if you miss something?"

"I'll keep my old number active but turned off, only use it when I need to." Phillipe looked at her, desperate to clear things up.

"What if she finds out your new number? Change it again?"

"I'll set her straight."

"Haven't you already? Didn't you say you only see her as a little sister?"

"I don't even see her as a sister, Abella," Phillipe was at a loss, "Babe."

Before Abella, he was a man of few words, never explaining this much.

Seeing his anxious face, Abella couldn't help but smile.

"You're messing with me?" Phillipe finally caught on.

"Keep driving, don't stop in the middle of the road."

Even though other cars knew better than to mess with his license plate, it was still the middle of the road.

Stopping like this wasn't a good look.

Seeing her smile and chill attitude, Phillipe finally relaxed. He touched her face. "You scared me. I almost dragged you to my buddy's place to prove my innocence."

He and Molly had zero extra feelings, not even a bit.

"Then I'd look like a crazy girlfriend. They'd think I'm a shrew."

"It's my choice not to get involved with those women. Nothing to do with you. Besides," Phillipe looked into her eyes, "I like you keeping me in check."

With her managing him, he felt her love.

Just then, his buddy called again. Phillipe answered right away, "You think I'm leaving and don't have time to deal with you? If you help someone else call me again, see if I let you off."

"Does your fiancée know you're this fierce?" Lowell's voice on the other end was amused, barely holding back laughter.

"My fiancée loves me no matter what."

"Even if you cheat?"

"Dude, you really need a smack."

Lowell laughed. "She made me do it. Is your fiancée there? Let me explain."

"Get lost and stop bugging her."

"Just a few words, come on."

"Your voice is too rough; you'll scare her."

"Rough? You got hearing issues? Whatever, just let me talk to her."

"Nope." Phillipe hung up right away.

Abella couldn't help but laugh. "Your friend is a riot."

"He's just asking for trouble. When he's not, he's actually a good guy."

Abella laughed. "So, where to next?"

"The Bourbon Group has a helipad nearby," Phillipe said, looking at her. "That girl is my buddy's sister. Their family’s all boys, and she's the first girl, so everyone spoils her. My buddy brings her along to our hangouts so she won't feel lonely."

Abella got it. "So the caller was her brother?"

"No, her brother knows I don't like her, so he never helps her call. She gets her brother's friends to call, and they all get roped into it. There were family disputes over interests. As the most pampered girl, her family was scared she'd be in danger, so they lied that she was missing and actually placed her with us. My parents were busy abroad, so it was just me and her at home."

Abella nodded knowingly. "No wonder she likes you."

In tough times, having someone who made her feel safe would naturally make her fall for him. Plus, Phillipe was super handsome.

Thinking this, Abella's gaze fell on Phillipe beside her. Even his profile was stunning, especially his bright, sharp eyes.

"She only stayed for a few days. After her family's issues were sorted, they took her back. It was years ago." Phillipe didn't remember exactly how many years because he never paid attention.

But Molly, ever since living with him, had developed feelings for him.

"Did she confess to you?" Abella asked.

"Yeah, but I told her I had no feelings for her and only saw her as a little sister."

Actually, she wasn't even like a sister, but Molly kept messaging him. Out of respect for his friend, he didn't block her but rarely replied.

Unless Molly mentioned his friend being hurt or his friend's birthday, he would pay attention.

"Abella, you're the first person I've ever liked," Phillipe looked at her and said sincerely, "In this lifetime, I've never thought of spending it with anyone other than you. You're the first and the last."

From the first moment he saw her, he couldn't take his eyes off her.

Even he couldn't believe how much he liked someone, to the point of being unable to pull himself away.

"You're the same for me." Abella's simple words made Phillipe pause, then he realized she was responding to his words.

He was the first person she liked.

He couldn't help but smile, his eyes filled with surprise and joy. All the anxiety and unease from earlier vanished, replaced by overwhelming sweetness.
