Chapter 800 The Chosen One
Phillipe gave a quick glance and then looked away, like he couldn't care less.
Colleen suddenly remembered something and blurted out, "Hey, no one's touched it yet."
Phillipe didn't even break his stride, breezing past her and leaving a whiff of something fresh and clean in the air.
Colleen took a deep breath, savoring the scent. Damn, it smelled good. She was really into it.
Phillipe spotted Abella in the middle of a bunch of old folks, all chatting and laughing. Just as he was about to head over, someone stepped in his way.
"Hey, you one of Mr. Wodehouse's guests too? Looks like everyone's dying to talk to you. Must be a pain, huh?" Willow acted like she didn't know Phillipe, flashing a cheeky grin. "I could pretend to be your girlfriend to keep the fans at bay."
Phillipe shot her a frosty look.
Faye knew playing it cool wouldn't work with a guy like him, so she went all in. "Hey Phillipe, I'm Faye. I've had a thing for you for three years."
Everyone around them froze. Faye had some serious guts, confessing like that in front of a crowd.
Faye went on, "Three years ago, I saw you at a corporate event on TV. You looked so focused, and I was hooked. Tonight, Lola's got a new boyfriend, so I guess you two are done. You're always so busy; I wonder if I could take care of you, even if it's not as your girlfriend. You can date other girls too; I don't mind. I'm sure one day you'll see me differently."
After spilling her guts, Faye looked at Phillipe, all hopeful and nervous, waiting for his reaction.
"I've got someone I like." Phillipe brushed past them, congratulated Clarence, and then turned to Abella. "When'd you get here?"
"A little after seven."
"Alright, let's give the young folks some space. We'll head inside for a few more drinks," Clarence said, shooing the old guys away and leaving them alone.
Abella eyed Phillipe with interest. "You're quite the hot commodity."
Phillipe flashed a killer smile. "Not many guys here tonight. If there were more, it would've taken me ten days to get to you."
Abella couldn't help but laugh.
"I heard you made the cake tonight?"
Abella handed him a slice. "How'd you know? Wanna try?"
"Grandpa was just bragging, saying your cake made him happier than winning the lottery. I was busy with something, but all I could think about was your cake." Phillipe took a bite.
"How is it?"
"Amazing. Can you make one for my birthday too?" Phillipe scooped another bite and fed it to her, the cream brushing her lips, making his Adam's apple bob. He felt an urge he couldn't quite describe.
Watching the cake so close to her lips, Abella had no choice but to take a bite. "Is it really that big of a deal?"
He was laying it on thick.
Dude was practically shouting to the world that he had a girlfriend.
"Not holding a press conference about it is already pretty low-key," Phillipe joked, offering her another bite.
"I can't eat anymore," Abella said, already feeling stuffed.
"Can you make one just for me?"
He really wanted a cake all to himself.
"When your birthday rolls around, let me know what style you want."
"Seriously? I get to pick the style?" Phillipe's face lit up, his eyes never leaving Abella.
The guests were buzzing.
"Is Phillipe dating Stringless? They look like a couple!"
"Wasn't there a rumor about the Medici and Bourbon families having a marriage arrangement? Lola's supposed to be Phillipe's fiancée. But tonight, Lola's with Henry, and Phillipe's feeding cake to Stringless. What's the deal?"
"Maybe they had a fight and are just trying to make each other jealous?"
"But Phillipe seems really into Stringless. Could it be for real?"
"If Phillipe's really with Stringless, I'm gonna cry."
Stringless was just too amazing, something she could never match in her lifetime.
And she was stunning, with that cool vibe that made her stand out in any crowd.
"Abella is both Stringless and KnightStrategist. If she ends up being Phillipe's girlfriend too, that's just too much luck."
"I can't handle it."
"Me neither."
Phillipe finished the cake and wrapped an arm around Abella's slim waist. "Mr. Wodehouse's place is pretty unique."
"He loves planting flowers and stuff in the garden," Abella said. "I planted that Hellebore. Didn't think it would grow so big."
Phillipe felt a pang of envy for Clarence, having flowers personally planted by Abella at his place.
Phillipe gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said softly, "You're like this Hellebore, not seeking attention but always standing out for your beauty."
Just then, Faye's grandmother, using her seniority, approached Phillipe, thinking he'd show some respect.
"Phillipe, do you remember me? My husband used to play Go with your grandfather," Dawn asked with a smile. "Are you and Stringless dating?"
Phillipe's eyes landed on Abella. 'Abella is Stringless? That's a surprise. First Anika, now Stringless. How many identities does Abella have that I don't know about?'
A bunch of guests stood behind Dawn, all staring at Phillipe, waiting for him to deny it.
Since Abella's identity wasn't public, Phillipe didn't spill the beans. Instead, he pulled her close, looked at her with affection, and declared, "She's the one I've chosen for life."
He didn't say girlfriend or fiancée.
But that statement hit everyone like a bomb.
She was the one Phillipe had chosen?
Phillipe liked her enough to admit it himself?
