Chapter 606 Subconscious Reaction

Vanessa had no idea how long she’d been out, but when she woke up, everything outside was blanketed in white.

The snow had stopped, leaving a pristine, white landscape.

Abella was by the bed, massaging Vanessa. When Vanessa woke up, Abella’s eyes softened. "Grandma, you're awake?"

"Abella, how long was I out? What time is it?" Vanessa asked.

"Twelve o'clock," Abella said, helping her sit up. "Take it easy."

Vanessa finally sat up, her eyes on Abella. "Did you eat lunch? Have you been massaging me all morning? Your hands must be sore! Let me massage them for you."

She vaguely remembered hearing Abella talking to the servants and massaging her earlier. She hadn’t realized so much time had passed.

"I'm not hungry, and I'm not tired," Abella smiled. "But you should eat something light today. I'll take you to lunch with everyone, okay?"

It was Christmas, and everyone was gathered together.

"Alright," Vanessa agreed, smiling at Abella. She was so attentive and mature.

Abella supported her, and a servant quickly came to help. "Ms. Abella Medici has been taking care of you all morning. She insisted on doing it herself."

Just then, Lola, who had been waiting outside, came in. "Grandma, you're awake? Lunch is ready. Let's eat together. It’s been a while since we had a meal together."

Seeing Abella pushing the wheelchair, Lola offered, "Abella, let me do it. You've been working hard all morning."

"No need," Abella replied coolly.

A nearby servant wanted to remind Lola that sometimes saying too much could backfire. In Vanessa's eyes, Abella had been massaging her all morning without seeking credit, while Lola only showed up after she woke up, trying to take credit without doing anything. It seemed a bit off.

Unaware of this, Lola followed Vanessa, smiling sweetly. "Grandma, you don’t know how many times I’ve dreamed of this day. Today it finally came true. You woke up and can have a meal with all of us."

Before she could finish, a loud noise erupted, making her scream and step back.

A one-meter-tall smart robot had exploded, sending fragments everywhere. Abella immediately shielded Vanessa, using her back to block the danger.

Everyone around was frightened.

Vanessa was startled too. Abella quickly reassured her, "Grandma, it's okay. It was just a robot explosion. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly, and relax."

Vanessa’s first concern was Abella. "Are you okay? Did your back get hurt?"

"I saw the fragments hit Ms. Abella Medici's back," a nearby servant said, still shaken. The incident had happened too quickly. She hadn’t even reacted before the fragments hit Abella.

Fearing Abella was hurt, she quickly went to call for help.

"Let me see!" Vanessa insisted, grabbing Abella’s arm to check her back.

Abella turned around. "It's fine, just a little hit. Doesn't hurt."

"Why'd you rush over like that?"

"Are you hurt anywhere?" Abella checked Vanessa. Luckily, it was winter, and their thick clothes, plus Abella's protection, kept Vanessa safe.

Lola was still in shock. When Abella went to check the robot, she snapped out of it and hurried to Vanessa. "Grandma, are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

Lola felt a pang of guilt. She had instinctively stepped back in fear, unlike Abella, who had immediately protected Vanessa. Would Vanessa think she was cowardly and that Abella was more dependable?

"Abella!" A group rushed over, asking about her injuries.

But Abella was examining the robot fragments. "This robot is a fake. It looks like the high-end CX203, but it's made of cheap parts. The explosion was due to poor quality components."

Everyone was shocked. How could there be fakes in James's house?

A servant knelt down, crying. "I'm sorry, Mr. Harris. I didn't check this batch properly. I almost hurt Ms. Abella Medici and Mrs. Harris. I'm really sorry."

"They are already hurt." James's eyes darkened, but he looked at Abella with concern. "I'll have the nurse check you. If needed, we'll go to the hospital."

"Yes, we should go. Abella protected me before I even reacted," Vanessa said, moved by Abella's bravery.

"It's okay, I'm a doctor," Abella reassured. "It just hit me a bit. With all these clothes, it's fine."

"Really? You can't lie to me," Kimberly insisted.

"Really, it's fine." Abella walked over to Vanessa, pushing the wheelchair. "Let's go eat."

"Make sure to investigate the source," James ordered.

Someone had dared to mix a counterfeit among genuine products and sell it to him. Or someone had secretly swapped the genuine one. Or maybe there was another reason.

"Find out the truth."

"Yes." The butler was terrified. Luckily, Abella wasn't seriously hurt. Otherwise, he'd be in big trouble for not supervising properly!

After this incident, Vanessa held Abella close, and Blake shamelessly sat on the other side of Abella.

James objected. "You usually have plenty of time to have meals with Abella in Libertya. I only have these two days. Can't you get up?"

"Uncle James, you're an elder. Competing with me, a junior, for a seat?" Blake refused to move. "If you want to have meals with Abella, you can go to Libertya to find her."

"I will visit often in the future."

"Forget it, James. I've never won the seat next to Abella. Let's sit together," Beckett said, pulling James to sit down.

"Blake, your eleventh global tour concert is in Sunhavenia, right?" James asked.

"Uncle James, I get what you mean!" Blake grinned. "You'll bring a lot of people to support me, right? You'll handle all the venues, equipment, and everything, right? Thanks, Uncle James. Cheers to you."
