Chapter 747 Grandpa's Meeting Gift
As the evening rolled in, Bonnie piped up, "Hey, it's pretty lively tonight. How about we grab some dinner out?"
"Totally! It's been ages since I had dinner with Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle Caleb, and Aunt Bonnie! I miss those good ol' times," Lola chimed in, making sure Abella got the hint that she, Lola, had been the one hanging with the Medici fam for the past eighteen years, not Abella.
Abella just shrugged, not a flicker of emotion on her face. "No biggie."
"Awesome! I've been dying for a fun family dinner out! Bonnie, you always get me," Vanessa said, grinning and grabbing Bonnie's hand. "So, where we headed?"
"One of our own spots, of course," Bonnie beamed. "Great service, fresh food, and it’s right up Mom and Dad's alley."
Vanessa grinned back. "You always know the best places."
Just then, a servant stepped up and said, "Mr. David Harris, someone outside asked me to give this to you."
Everyone turned to see the servant holding a fancy wooden box, about the size of a laptop, with some intricate carvings that screamed expensive.
David popped it open to find a thick stack of property deeds, land titles, keys, and other stuff.
There was also a letter.
[David, by the time you read this, we’ll be long gone from Verdania. Enclosed are our resignation letters, already processed and stamped. We’re out of the company.]
[We’re too ashamed to face you, so this is our way of saying sorry. Thanks for sparing our lives.]
[We’re giving up our monthly dividends from the company.]
[We sold all our shops, houses, antiques, jewelry, and other valuables at a discount. The money will barely cover our living expenses. The stuff we couldn’t sell in time is now yours to deal with.]
[With deep regret, shame, and a heavy heart, we say sorry again. No words can express our endless remorse, but we still want to say sorry. We were wrong. We wish you and your family a prosperous future. Sincerely, your foolish brothers.]
At the end of the letter were his brothers' signatures. Feeling a mix of emotions, David handed the letter to Vanessa and then said, "Abella, come with me."
Lola bit her lip. 'Why's he only calling Abella and not me?'
In the garden, David took a moment to gather his thoughts and then looked at Abella with a soft expression. "You've been back with the family for six months now. I’ve been meaning to give you a welcome gift, but I haven’t gotten around to it. Everything in this box is a token of my appreciation. You gotta accept it."
Abella opened the box to find dozens of property deeds and land titles, plus a bunch of car keys.
David said, "Tomorrow, come with me to transfer the names. All of this will be in your name, including their monthly dividends. They’re yours from now on."
"It's too much; I can't take it," Abella said, pushing the box back without a second thought. "Grandma's already given me plenty of shares and savings."
"That's from your grandma. This is from me. If you don't take it, you're saying you like her more than me," David insisted, shoving the box back into her hands with a smile. "Take it to your room and stash it. We'll head out for dinner later. I owe you everything."
Otherwise, he'd still be knocking on death's door.
"Grandpa."
"Enough, no more arguing! Or I'll get mad, and you know my health's still on the mend." David faked a few coughs.
But Abella could tell he was just putting on a show.
"Caleb and James have their own gigs and won't have to worry about their future. Everything I have will eventually go to you. If you can't take a small gift now, what are you gonna do later? Hand it over to someone else?"
"Grandpa."
"This family owes you big time. Let me make it up to you."
David coughed a few more times and waved his hand. "No more talking, I'm out of breath. Need to rest."
Abella held the wooden box, watching David walk away, feeling both amused and touched.
"I heard Uncle Ulysses and Uncle Dreck have been offloading their properties and shops at a discount to get more cash to take with them," Bonnie said coldly, already knowing their plans. "Dad only gave them two days, so they were in a rush to sell. They needed buyers to pay in full and transfer the money to their accounts. I put the squeeze on them, so no one dared to buy their stuff. I also got some people to keep lowering their prices. In the end, I snagged the two most valuable villas and the ten prime shops at a steal. The rest they couldn't sell in time, so they had to transfer the names to Dad."
Lola realized that the wooden box held the unsold properties, shops, and luxury car keys of Ulysses, Derek, Jerold, and Yancy.
David had called Abella to the garden and practically forced the wooden box into her hands.
'Is he giving it all to Abella?' Lola thought, feeling a surge of jealousy. 'They've already given Abella nearly twenty million dollars in rewards, and now they're giving her even more? What about me? What do I get? Doesn't anyone care about my feelings?'
At that moment, Lola saw Abella carrying the wooden box upstairs, and she was so jealous she could scream!
Her grandparents had just said in front of everyone that they would treat everyone fairly. But now, their favoritism was so obvious!
"Lola, Lola? Did you hear what I said?" Bonnie's words snapped Lola back to reality. She forced an awkward smile. "Aunt Bonnie, what did you just say?"
"Go upstairs and change your clothes. I bought some new outfits for your grandma. Take her upstairs to try them on. We'll meet in the living room in about half an hour."
"Okay." Lola didn't know how she made it back to her room. She only knew that when she passed by Abella's room, she noticed it was bigger and more beautiful than hers.
Maybe out of anger, Lola took out her phone and subconsciously dialed a familiar number.
