Chapter 596 What a Lively Scene

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Lola didn't get any gifts from James.

Before, James took Abella to the mall and bought so much stuff that Lola could let it slide.

But on these holidays, James didn't even say "Merry Christmas." That was just too much!

Did James think that reconnecting with his biological niece meant he could ditch the niece he loved for eighteen years?

The servants said her brothers even sang and danced for Abella.

Steven? That was so unlike him!

What kind of magic did Abella have to make Steven act so silly?

How did she do it?

It wasn't surprising that her parents dressed up as Santa to make Abella happy.

But James, usually so dignified, went along with it too.

Lola was really jealous and angry!

At the dining table, Abella put down her fork. "I'm full, you all enjoy."

"No, don't go," Blake grabbed her clothes. "The concert I invited you to is in four days, will you come?"

"Let go, don't stretch out Abella's clothes!" Winston slapped Blake's hand away. "What's so great about your loud concert? Abella would be better off in the lab with her medicine."

"Loud concert? It's called hyping up the crowd, it's called RAP!" Blake corrected. "And if the clothes stretch out so easily, the material must be bad!"

"Abella, he said your design is bad," Ethan teased.

"What? Abella designed this?" Blake's eyes widened. "I knew it, such beautiful clothes! From the first moment I saw it, I thought the designer must be talented, assertive, and creative."

"So lively." A jealous voice came from the door.

Everyone turned, surprised and shocked.

"Lola, why are you here?" Blake asked. Lola smiled, "Why, shouldn't I be here? Are you unhappy because I showed up at the wrong time?"

"Blake meant you should've told us in advance so I could send a car," James said, instructing someone, "Add another chair and set of utensils. You haven't eaten yet, right? Come and eat."

Lola's gaze swept across everyone and landed on Abella.

Abella's eyes were calm, without surprise or unease, looking at her peacefully.

For the first time, Lola didn't put on an act, didn't sweetly call out "Abella," because she felt no need to be humble in front of her.

A servant brought a chair, and Lola sat down, pouring herself a glass of wine.

"Lola," James started to tell her not to drink.

But Lola smiled, "It's okay, I'm eighteen now. This glass is for Dad, Mom, Uncle, my brothers, and Abella, and also for myself. Merry Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas."

She downed the wine in one go and elegantly set the glass down like nothing happened.

But her eyes, brightened by tears, looked even more striking.

"Lola, it's not what you think," Kimberly started, wanting to explain that Abella was here by chance, treating someone for a friend, and they just happened to run into Vanessa and James.

But Lola smiled. "Mom, I didn't misunderstand. No need to explain. I was just bored at home, and since Henry had work in Sunhavenia, I came along."

"Henry's outside? Right now?" Beckett asked, ready to greet him.

Lola said, "He dropped me off and left."

"Why didn't you invite him in for a meal?" Beckett felt guilty for not being a good host.

Lola smiled gracefully. "I didn't know you were having dinner, and neither did Henry. It's fine, he has work, and we already celebrated Christmas at home."

"Well, that's good," Beckett nodded, but felt uneasy, like Lola was blaming them for having a family gathering without her.

James said, "Alright, let's not dwell on it. Lola must be starving after a twelve-hour flight. Come, eat something."

Lola looked at the table full of leftovers, her smile deepening. "Thank you, Uncle James."

"Eat these first, they haven't been touched much," James said, putting down his utensils and instructing, "Go make some fresh dishes."

"No need, Uncle James. This is enough for me."

"It's no trouble, the kitchen will be quick," James insisted, urging others. "Hurry up."

"It's Christmas Eve, let the servants relax. I've been traveling all day and can't eat much."

Everyone could hear the unhappiness in her tone. Abella stood up. "I'll go back to my room."

"Wait, Abella, are you full? You haven't had the soup I served you," Kimberly blurted out.

"And your uncle prepared some programs," Beckett added, then realized it wasn't appropriate.

"I'm full," Abella said. She had wanted to leave before Lola arrived to prepare gifts for the elders and her brothers.

Lola thought Abella was challenging her. She smiled and said, "Is it because I'm here that you're unhappy and don't want to see me? If so, I'll leave."

"Lola, what nonsense are you talking about?" Ethan said. "How could Abella think that?"

"I'm just getting some gifts, don't overthink it," Abella said, walking out of the dining area, leaving everyone with a cool and elegant exit.

Lola felt even more uncomfortable. 'Why, even now, does Abella not feel a bit guilty or uneasy?'
