Chapter 766 Slander
"In my hood, if someone messes with you, I gotta step in! I want everyone to know that Beauty Skincare Group is under the Harris Group's wing. Anyone who messes with it is messing with us," Bonnie said, giving Abella's shoulder a friendly pat and grinning. "I'll hit up Caleb first and get him to come home for dinner to properly host Phillipe."
"Uncle Caleb's got a meeting tonight, doesn't he?" Abella remembered Caleb mentioning in the morning that he wouldn't be home for dinner because of a meeting.
She figured if he was busy, he didn't need to rush back just for a meal; no need to make a big fuss over it.
But Bonnie was like, "What meeting is more important than Phillipe? Tonight, the whole fam's gotta be here to host him!"
As for Henry, Bonnie remembered the last time Lola got wasted and hurt Henry, and she wasn't sure if Lola had properly apologized afterward.
Thinking about how Lola might have spiked Abella's drink to embarrass her made Bonnie super uncomfortable.
"We'll invite Henry next time; tonight, it's just Phillipe," she said, then went off to make a call.
Just then, a servant came in and said, "Ms. Medici, Mr. Bourbon is here, and he brought a ton of gifts."
Abella didn't expect that Phillipe was late because he was prepping gifts. Seeing Phillipe show up with a bunch of gifts, Abella smiled and said, "Is all this really necessary?"
Every time he came, he brought a load of gifts, making his intentions pretty clear.
Phillipe smiled at her. "Did your grandparents, Uncle Caleb, and Aunt Bonnie like the gifts I brought last time?"
Abella was about to say something.
But someone else chimed in first, "They loved them! Vanessa, Caleb, Bonnie, and I all loved the gifts you brought last time."
Phillipe and Abella turned to see David walking towards them with a big smile.
"Those gifts were too generous; we felt bad about it. And now you've brought even more gifts this time. No, no, after dinner, you gotta take them back!" David took the gifts and placed them on the table, then patted Phillipe's shoulder and praised, "Not bad, you're in good shape. Do you work out regularly?"
Phillipe looked at Abella with affection and nodded. "Yeah."
He wanted Abella to feel more secure, so no matter how busy he was, he kept up with his workouts.
David looked at him approvingly. "Sit down, sit down. Someone, bring out the best coffee."
"I follow Abella's lead now; I drink lemon water and tea."
"Those are good! I like tea too! Lemon water's too sour for me; my teeth can't handle it." David smiled. "Someone, bring out the best tea we have."
"Thanks for the hospitality, Grandpa."
"No need to thank me; we're all family." David looked at Phillipe with satisfaction. "You've met Abella's parents, right?"
Phillipe nodded. "Yeah, I have."
"Earlier, I didn't hear them mention it, so I didn't know you and Abella were dating." Before David could finish, Vanessa walked in from the kitchen and said, "You were bedridden before; even if they mentioned it, you wouldn't have heard."
Seeing Vanessa, Phillipe stood up politely and greeted, "Grandma."
"Phillipe, you're here? Kick back, make yourself at home," Vanessa smiled. "I saw the news today. You were the first to show up when Beauty Skincare Group had trouble. That's awesome."
Hiding on the second floor, Lola saw her grandparents serving Phillipe tea and snacks, clearly thrilled with him. She couldn't help but clench her fists.
'Is this really necessary? Bonnie is so biased, inviting Phillipe for dinner but not Henry! Is it just because Henry's status is too low?' Thinking this, she secretly snapped a photo of the scene and sent it to Henry.
Lola: [Seeing this makes me a bit sad.]
Lola: [Aunt Bonnie invited Phillipe for dinner. I wish she had invited you too.]
Lola: [Maybe it's because I'm not a biological daughter of the Medici family, so they don't value me, and it makes you feel wronged.]
Lola: [Henry, when will we be able to make my family look up to us?]
These words carried a lot of implications.
It seemed like Bonnie didn't value Lola and thought Henry's status was too low, so she deliberately didn't invite him.
Henry quickly replied to Lola: [It's my fault for not making more money, making you feel inferior in front of your family. I was too naive before, thinking that earning money with my own hands would be enough to give you a good life. I am too shallow. From now on, I will seize every opportunity to give you a better life.]
Lola felt a bit repulsed by these words. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't surpass Phillipe in three to five months.
But she still pretended: [No, I have to talk to Aunt Bonnie and see if she can invite you for dinner!]
Henry: [It's okay, Lola. Aunt Bonnie can invite me anytime; it doesn't have to be today.]
Henry didn't want her to argue with her family for his sake. Seeing that Lola didn't reply, Henry sent another message: [Lola, don't go, be good.]
Lola didn't reply for a long time.
After a while, Lola sent a crying emoji and replied: [Aunt Bonnie said she's only inviting Phillipe tonight. I argued a bit, and she said she can invite whoever she wants.]
Henry couldn't help but call her, comforting her with a pained heart, "It's okay, Lola. I'm already surprised and touched that you talked to Aunt Bonnie about this. It's my lack of ability. I'll work hard to earn their approval. Don't feel wronged."
"Uncle Caleb is back," At this moment, Lola saw Caleb return and speak very politely to Phillipe. She couldn't help but whisper, "Uncle Caleb is praising Phillipe for being young and promising, saying that they, as elders, would be at ease if Abella married him. I think it's because Phillipe brought expensive gifts again!"
Lola deliberately said this angrily.
She wanted to hint to Henry that he should bring more gifts next time to outshine Phillipe.
But Henry advised, "Lola, Uncle Caleb is not someone who is easily impressed by a few gifts. He must see something exceptional in Phillipe. Don't be upset. I promise to work harder to earn their approval."
Lola pouted, pretending to be moved, but in reality, she was very disdainful.
She found an excuse to hang up and continued to spy from the second floor.
Phillipe occasionally looked at Abella with affection and love, making Lola extremely envious.
