Chapter 877 Talk Tonight

Cruz's hand shook as he pointed outside, his lips moving but no words coming out.

"Come on, say something. Don't you dare die on me, Cruz. Stay with me..." Louie watched helplessly as Cruz took his last breath. He couldn't believe it; the girl had been right.

Cruz had been poisoned, and there was no saving him.

Louie checked for Cruz's breath and then called Dennis to report, "Mr. Medici, he's gone. Dr. Aaron and the others were already waiting at the villa. We were just five minutes away."

But it was too late.

Dennis was a bit taken aback. It seemed the girl really knew her stuff and realized Cruz was beyond saving, so she didn't even try.

"So, you didn't get anything out of him?" Dennis asked, keeping his cool.

"He couldn't talk, but he kept grabbing me with one hand and pointing outside with the other. I have no clue what he was pointing at."

"Pointing outside?" Dennis seemed to catch on to something. "What was outside at the time?"

"Not much, really. From where he was lying in the car, he could probably only see the sky. Maybe the moon and stars, if they were even out..."

"I'll have someone check who he was in contact with."

"And look into who came through the back door of the auction tonight."

"Yes, sir." Louie took the orders and got to work.

Meanwhile, Abella gave Theo instructions, "Find out who was near the auction when Cruz got hurt tonight and who might have attacked him. Pull the street surveillance footage. If any cameras are damaged, let me know, and I'll restore them."

Normally, there wouldn't be so many damaged cameras unless someone or something they didn't want seen was there at that time.

"Ms. Medici, you're brilliant!" Theo hadn't thought of following that lead. It made sense; who would damage surveillance unless they were hiding something? Luckily, Abella was a top-notch hacker, so it wouldn't be a problem for her.

"By the way, Ms. Medici, those people might track you down tonight. We should switch hotels. I'm worried it's not safe where you are." Theo added.

"Isn't there a hidden fire escape we can use?" Abella said.

Theo had mentioned before that if you turned the wall lamp behind the sofa, a fire escape would appear. This design was for celebrities or VIPs who wanted to leave the hotel discreetly.

It was a perk of the presidential suite.

"Besides, if they wanted to chase us, they would have by now," Abella added.

With Dennis's driving skills, they might not have escaped. But everything was quiet now, so Abella wasn't worried.

She had planned to design clothes for Isolde, grab the medicine, and head back home. But the fire incident had brought new leads to light. It was a good chance to investigate further. This case had been stuck for half a year with no real progress.

The next morning, Theo was fuming, his heart pounding with frustration. He couldn't help but call Abella. "Ms. Medici, that Mr. Medici is unbelievable. They said we need at least seven or eight billion dollars to buy their island. I told them you might be related since you share the same last name, but they didn't care. They said if we can't pay, we should look elsewhere. Then they hung up on me! It's infuriating! They don't really want to sell!"

Abella chuckled at how worked up he was.

"But then they suddenly said Mr. Medici wants to meet us. Ms. Medici, do you think Mr. Medici could be related to you? You both have the same last name..."

"Maybe," Abella said, sounding unsure. "Have you looked into them?"

"Mr. Medici's background is hard to trace. Every time I try, it leads to trouble. He's probably not someone to mess with."

"If it weren't for your homemade smoke bombs last night, we wouldn't have made it out." Theo added, "But working with you these past few days has been so thrilling and meaningful. No wonder Sam and the others always fight to be with you."

Just one outing with Abella was enough to gain a lot of experience, both thrilling and dangerous.

Thinking about how Abella would rely on him more and let him help back home, Theo couldn't help but smile.

"Why are you smiling like that?" Abella asked.

"Nothing, just happy to be working with you." Theo replied.

"Weren't you scared last night?"

"Of course I was. My legs were shaking. You didn't see it, but with so many guns pointed at us, who knew if one would misfire and hit me in the head?"

Abella laughed again.

"Ms. Medici, have you noticed you smile a lot more now? You look beautiful when you smile. You should do it more often."

"Wasn't I beautiful before?"

"You were, but in a cool way. Now you're beautiful in a warm way. Both are charming." Theo laughed and then asked, "Ms. Medici, are we still going tonight? They said the price is negotiable as long as we show up. They know we were the ones who took Cruz, so they want us to come to them?"

"Not likely. If that were the case, they could pretend to sell the island at a low price and make us sign an agreement on the spot. That would force us to go. But they just want to talk. They're probably curious why we want that island so badly."

"But we can't reveal the island's value. If we do, they'll either refuse to sell or hike up the price. They're very cunning, so we can't give away too much."

"We'll go tonight and see what happens," Abella said calmly.

Theo admired Abella's calm demeanor. "Ms. Medici, you have such strong nerves. How do you have the courage to repeatedly venture into enemy territory at such a young age? Your bravery is incredible."

"Do you want to go instead?"
