Chapter 457 Alarm the Police
Lola's tears couldn't be held back any longer, falling one by one.
"Just now, you heard it too. Mr. Carl and Mrs. Winslow even gave Ms. Abella pocket money. They've been lying in bed for months, and the first thing they do when they wake up is not to care about you, but to send money to Ms. Abella. What does that tell you? They care more about their own granddaughter. To them, you are just an outsider."
Lola felt even more distressed.
"They are a family after all. Look at how many times Ms. Abella has visited them. The bond within their family is so strong. They exchange messages and calls every day. Now, look at your own phone. How many messages have you received, how many calls, how much pocket money have they sent you since Carl Medici woke up?"
Lola felt dejected. The answer was none.
They never sent her any money or even a word of concern.
Maria sighed, "Ms. Lola, you've been too sheltered all these years. You don't understand the complexities of society, the treacherousness of human nature. I've advised you many times before, but you didn't listen. If back then, you had been more realistic and fought for your own interests, you wouldn't be left with nothing now."
Lola raised her dazed eyes. "What interests are you talking about?"
"Of course, I'm talking about the company's dividends. Don't you want to receive a substantial amount of money every month like your brothers? It's a significant sum. Also, while the old master still has a bit of affection for you, why not ask for a few more villas and shops?"
"Whatever you can get now is what you'll have. As for the dowry later on, it all depends on their conscience."
"At the very least, make the old lady buy you a few limited edition supercars and some designer bags and watches. In the future, if you ever need money in a hurry, you can sell them for some cash."
Lola felt disheartened. "But what I want is their love for me."
"Ms. Lola, can't you see it clearly by now? Ms. Abella has returned, and their treatment of you will never be the same as before! It's better to secure yourself with more guarantees, so that you'll at least have money when the time comes!"
What use was emotion to her?
New York was the most developed first-tier city in the country, where even a random villa costs millions. After eighteen years of emotional investment, can't Mr. and Mrs. Medici spare a few villas for her? Not to mention the shops in New York, each worth tens of millions. How many years of hard work would it take for an ordinary person to earn that kind of money?
Those things could be easily obtained now, but Lola refused to listen!
She only cared about emotions!
She was too naive!
"Maria, I want to be alone for a while."
Lola remembered how Winston had opened the car door for Abella just now, lowering himself in status. It made her feel uncomfortable.
"Sure, take your time to think." Maria gently patted her shoulder. "No matter what, I will always be by your side. Over these years, I have already treated you as my own daughter. If you live well, I will genuinely be happy for you."
"Thank you, Maria." Lola looked up at Maria gratefully. "Thank you for considering everything from my perspective all these years. Sometimes, I even feel like you're better than my own mother."
"Ms. Lola, you're giving me too much credit. I also want to thank you for treating me like family all these years, giving me a sense of home."
Maria's voice choked a little as she continued, "No matter what decision you ultimately make, I will support you. If you want to fight for your interests, I will help you. If you just want a place to belong in this family, I will accompany you."
Lola was moved by her words and couldn't help but hug her, tears flowing. "Maria."
"Silly child, don't cry. It's not the worst time yet." Maria comforted her. "There are still opportunities for everything."
Everything depended on Lola's thoughts.
As long as she wanted, she would definitely get it.
On the other side, Winston held an umbrella for Abella. Although it was a holiday, the weather was still a bit hot, and there were many tourists.
He navigated through the crowd of people and took out a small electric fan from his bag to help Abella cool down.
"Abella, are you feeling hot? Do you want some water?" Winston wrapped the fan around the handle of the umbrella and blew it towards Abella. Then he took out a bottle of lemon water from his bag, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to her.
"Have some water first."
Phillipe didn't expect Winston to buy this brand of lemon water so quickly. He separated himself from the crowd and wiped down a large rock. "Abella, come and sit here."
There were too many people, and they hadn't even entered the entrance of the glass walkway.
Abella took a sip of water, looking at the dense crowd ahead.
Although they hadn't climbed the mountain yet, the scenery at the foot of the mountain was also beautiful, with lush trees and clear blue sea.
Suddenly, someone screamed, and the crowd scattered.
"Is it a dead body?"
"It seems like it. Oh my, who killed someone and dumped the body?"
"Was the body washed ashore by the waves?"
"Should we call the police?"
Abella looked up and saw a large woven bag washed up by the waves on the shore, with a hole in it, revealing something inside.
Many people were frightened, some couldn't help but vomit, and others quickly took out their phones to call the police. "Abella, you sit here first. I'll go and take a look."
As a forensic expert, Winston instinctively wanted to go and see what was happening. Before he left, he handed the umbrella and the small fan to Phillipe, instructing him to take good care of Abella.
Abella got up and followed.
A crowd gathered in a half-circle, discussing the woven bag on the beach.
The woven bag was almost the size of a person, tied with ropes on the outside, and a large stone was tied to the other end of the rope. From the looks of it, it was definitely a murder.
The police received the call and hurried over. When Sam got out of the car and saw Winston, his eyes lit up.
You see, Winston was like the Sherlock Holmes of the forensic world, with investigative abilities far superior to theirs.
If they could meet him today, then this case was probably as good as solved!
"Mr. Medici, you're here too?" Sam hurriedly greeted Winston.
Winston nodded faintly. "You go ahead and do your work."
Sam instructed his subordinates to clear the crowd, and then opened the woven bag to take photos as evidence. The body was already highly decomposed, unrecognizable.
Some tourists couldn't help but feel nauseous and vomit, while others left with their children, leaving only a few curious onlookers at a distance, observing the commotion.
"Sam, I found a cellphone. It's been soaked in water for so long, probably useless."
"Let's take it back and have a look." After Sam finished speaking, he looked at Winston and asked, "Mr. Medici, what do you think?"
"The victim is a man."
That was the clue Winston could immediately discern, nothing else was certain for the time being.
"Death occurred approximately six months ago."
Upon hearing this, everyone turned to look in the direction of the voice.
When Sam saw the girl in the crowd, he couldn't hide his joy.
