Chapter 486 Going Back Home
After hanging up, Abella looked up and instructed, "Joe, prepare the plane. We will send Nicole's parents back to the States first."
"Got it." Joe quickly acknowledged.
Diana raised her teary eyes, somewhat puzzled, and asked, "Are we going back so soon? But we haven't found Nicole yet."
"This matter is too complicated. The two of you stay here; it's not safe." Abella approached them, speaking softly. "We will definitely find Nicole, trust us."
"Take us with you." Diana grabbed Abella's hand and pleaded, "We don't want to go back; we promise not to be a burden."
"No." Abella firmly stated, "We are heading to another place next, which is even more dangerous than here."
After all, Triangle City was notorious for its chaos.
Even though she and Phillipe's people had many connections there, caution was still paramount.
"I can guarantee that within a week, we will definitely have news about Nicole for you." Abella seemed to offer them a reassurance pill.
Within a week? Winston found it hard to believe. Could they really find Nicole's whereabouts in such a short time?
Did the phone call Abella just received provide some clues?
"Find Nicole within a week?" Diana's tears flowed again, unsure whether to be happy or excited. "Which country is Nicole in now? Which city?"
"Not far from us." Abella didn't elaborate, fearing that these two older adults might act on their own. "Before we find her, you should stay at the place we arranged for you for a few days. You will be taken care of and protected there, with no worries about food and accommodation."
"Do we really have to go back?" Diana still wanted to be closer to her daughter and didn't want to leave so soon.
But Nicole's father seemed to have made a decision: "Listen to the kids, let's go back. We can't help here; we'll just make trouble for them. They said there would be news about Nicole, and there will be. Abella, let's exchange contact information."
Nicole's father took out his phone, saved Abella and Winston's numbers, and added them on WhatsApp.
Diana also added them, but she was still worried about one thing. "Are we just leaving like this without informing the elderly gentleman who tutors at home?"
"Yeah, he's a poor man. Let me give him a call first." Nicole's father made a few calls, but the other party didn't answer.
"Let's apologize to him in person and return the remaining money for this month."
As soon as Diana mentioned this, Abella objected, "No, you can't go anywhere now; the plane will be here soon."
"But it would be impolite to leave like this." Diana felt it was irresponsible to leave without saying anything.
She explained to Abella that the old man had moved to the States with his son, who had married a foreigner, due to a language barrier with his daughter-in-law. Later, the daughter-in-law's job changed, and the son and daughter-in-law moved to a place far away from here, in the suburbs, making it inconvenient for the older man even to buy groceries.
So the older man stayed alone in the old house here, hired a tutor from his homeland, and studied the language every day just to be able to exchange a few words with his grandchildren when they visited every month.
If the couple left, the older man would be even lonelier.
Usually, he was all alone, with no one to talk to.
"He gave us a lot of money at the time, and we should return the remaining amount to him." Diana wanted to take the money for nothing to do.
"Give me his number; I'll call him later. If he doesn't answer, I'll take the money to him," Abella said gently, "Give me the address."
"Okay, tell him we sent you, express our apologies, and explain that we really had something urgent and didn't mean to stand him up." Diana really felt guilty.
Abella noted down the phone number and address, then turned to Winston. "Winston, you stay here and take them to the plane later."
"Okay."
At that moment, Abella's phone vibrated again, and she saw that it was Grandpa Wilson calling.
"Abella, what have you been busy with lately? You have yet to come to the school, and the research results for P31 are out. I plan to do the next experiment with you."
Abella stood up and went to the window, speaking softly, "Grandpa Wilson, I've been abroad recently, dealing with some matters."
"What? You went abroad?" Grandpa Wilson widened his eyes. "Didn't you say that forces were looking for you before? Going abroad is like walking into a trap. Come back quickly! Nothing is more important than your safety! Are you short of money? I have it; I will give it all to you."
"Those forces have quieted down a lot recently." Abella smiled. "I'll take care of myself; it's not about money; I just want to find someone."
"You're safer in school." Grandpa Wilson feared her global visibility would invite trouble. Previously, her unknown identity allowed her to travel internationally for business, but now, she was a target. "I know; I'll come back as soon as possible." Abella comforted him in turn.
"Then I'll do other experiments first. We'll research this together when you come back. If it turns out as we expect, it will be a groundbreaking medical achievement that will shake the world. You will become a famous person."
"It's all thanks to you, Grandpa," Abella didn't vie for this honor but said, "You spend the most time in the lab, and you're the one who sacrifices sleep and food for research."
"It's time for the younger generation to shine. I don't plan to leave a name behind. After finishing these experiments, I want to retire to the mountains." Grandpa Wilson also felt that he was reaching his limits. "I'm getting old, so while I can still move, I want to contribute more to society, help those who are sick, and alleviate some suffering."
The image of his wife's passing was still vivid in his mind, piercing his heart and causing him endless pain.
If solutions to some terminal illnesses had been researched earlier, his wife wouldn't have left him in such a painful way.
Now, once their medical achievements with Abella were out, how many people would be saved, sparing their families from hardship?
Having experienced the pain of losing a loved one, he didn't want others to go through the same.
"Are you thinking of Grandma again?" Abella knew that, at this moment, he must be thinking of his wife.
"When we finish these projects When I die, I can tell your Grandma about these; let her praise me."
