Chapter 568 The Same Restaurant

"Let me know if there's any news tonight," James said.

"Okay." Mark noticed James looked down and added, "Actually, there's another option. There's a medicine called Heart-saving Pills that showed up at an auction back home. It's made by a skilled pharmacist using Weed of Heart and works wonders for heart conditions."

James's eyes lit up. "Heart-saving Pills?"

"Yeah," Mark said. "Many patients with severe heart issues saw improvement after taking it. But Mrs. Harris's condition isn't just a heart problem. This pill can only help partially. I plan to mix it with my new drug and see if it works."

If Abbott didn't come through, James had to find a way to keep Vanessa alive. He couldn't just watch her suffer.

Mark continued, "The Heart-saving Pills haven't been available back home for a while, but they've shown up at auctions here twice recently."

"I'll make a call." James quickly dialed a number.

After a bit, Mark heard him say, "At nine tonight, there's a Heart-saving Pill being auctioned at a club in New York. There's only one pill."

"One is enough," Mark said, surprised at how quickly James got the info.

James nodded. "I'll go tonight."

Twelve hours later, Abella's plane landed at a foreign airport. She turned on her phone and saw a bunch of messages, with Kimberly's WhatsApp messages and calls being the first she returned.

But the system notified her that Kimberly's phone was off.

Abella opened WhatsApp and saw three messages from Kimberly at 7:30 in the morning.

Kimberly: [Abella, I heard you went out early. Did you go to school?]

Kimberly: [Are you in class? Can you message me when you're done?]

Kimberly: [I need to talk to you.]

Abella: [Mom, sorry, I went abroad to handle something. What do you need?]

Before Kimberly replied, Abella's phone vibrated. It was a call from Clare. "Abella, have you arrived? I'm waiting for you at Exit A."

Abella, carrying her backpack, walked out. "I see you."

"Abella, over here!" Clare jumped up and waved.

To avoid being recognized, Abella wore black casual wear, a black baseball cap, and a large black mask, revealing only her clear, beautiful eyes, making her look irresistibly charming.

"How many people are you going to charm with this look?" Clare linked arms with her. "We have time. Let me take you to eat first. Tonight, when we enter the auction, I have some business to attend to. Will you be okay on your own?"

"No problem!" Abella smiled. "What project are you working on lately? Josie said she hasn't seen you at school for a while."

"I haven't had time for side projects. My dad said I should either take over the family business or start dating. Of course, I chose the former!" Clare said without hesitation. "The former brings money, the latter wastes time and affects my mood. I've been taking over some of my dad's companies recently, and it's exhausting."

Thinking about her recent experiences, Clare felt a pang of bitterness.

"When you have a boyfriend, you'll see the perks," Abella said.

Maybe Clare wouldn't work so hard then.

"Well, you might never see me with a boyfriend," Clare replied, then teased, "Wait, did you just say having a boyfriend is good? Phillipe has really changed you!"

Abella shrugged. "Really?"

"Don't you see? You're different now. You seem more vulnerable, and your approach has changed. By the way, where is he? Didn't he come with you?" Clare teased.

Abella replied, "I didn't want him to leave work for this. It's unnecessary."

"But does he want to come?"

"He does, but I threatened him."

"You should've let him come. It would save me from worrying about your safety," Clare said, concerned that this trip might be risky.

"I'm just getting a few Piercing of Heart plants. I'll leave tomorrow. Nothing will happen," Abella assured her.

Clare unlocked the car and opened the door for her. "Since Phillipe isn't here, I'll be the gentleman and take care of you."

They chatted and laughed as they arrived at a high-rise restaurant with a stunning view of the city.

Clare had dined here before. She knew the patrons were either rich or noble, and the privacy was top-notch, making it more appealing than regular restaurants.

"What should we eat?" Clare opened the menu, feeling a bit indecisive.

"Order what you like." Abella noticed her mom still hadn't replied, but Phillipe had sent a message.

On the way to the restaurant, Abella had already told Phillipe where she was. Now seeing his photo of him working in the office, she reminded him to eat and not to forget.

"Abella, how about a wood-grilled black pepper steak, seafood pasta, pan-fried shrimp, and two corn soups?" Clare suggested.

"Sounds good," Abella agreed.

Although Clare was ordering, Abella noticed all the dishes were her favorites.

That's what good friends do—always thinking of you, even when it comes to food.

At that moment, it seemed an important person had arrived, as many waiters immediately went to greet them.

Clare looked up but didn't see the important person. However, she could tell from the respectful demeanor of the seven or eight waiters that the person must be significant.

"Mr. Harris, this floor is too crowded and might affect your dining experience. Please follow me to the top floor," the manager said, bowing and leading the way.

The top floor had a few glass rooms with the best views, reserved for VIPs.

James followed the restaurant manager upstairs, leaving behind a trail of admiration.

People were praising his looks, wealth, and capability.

"Aren't you eating?" Abella saw Clare still watching the commotion and couldn't help but laugh.

"Wonder who the important person is," Clare said indifferently. "It's seven now. The auction is at nine. We have time to eat, no rush."

On the top floor, James ordered his food and sent a message to Kimberly.

James: [I have something tonight and can't pick you and Beckett up. I've sent an assistant. You can rest at the hotel under my name tonight, and my people will pick you up tomorrow.]

They had just taken a twelve-hour flight, and James didn't want Kimberly and Beckett to be exhausted from more travel.
