Chapter 19

"I used to think that, but now things are not so peaceful abroad," Lola said with a smile. "Stanford University is not far from our home. If I don't have a late class, I can come home and spend time with you guys every day."

As she spoke, Lola deliberately hugged Beckett's arm and beamed at him.

"Since you started school, we'd never needed to worry about your grades," Beckett kindly said.

"What about Abella?" Lola hugged Beckett's arm tightly and looked at Abella, who was sitting across from them, with a sweet smile. "She must have done well in school, right? Did she go to Eric International High School or No.1 Middle School?"

"Don't you feel hot?" Abella elegantly wiped her lips with a napkin and asked a question that surprised them all.

Lola was leaning on Beckett so much that half of her body was flush against his side. Nobody would think too much of it in the past. But it seemed inappropriate as things had changed.

Beckett discreetly withdrew his arm and laughed, "Indeed, it's quite hot here. Jacob, please turn down the air conditioning."

"Yes, sir."

Lola felt embarrassed for a moment but quickly recovered. Pretending that nothing had happened, she asked again with a smile, "Abella, you haven't answered my question. How were your grades in school?"

"They were okay."

"What is the score for the exam you think you can achieve?" Lola pressed on, asking further.

Abella ate some exquisite snacks on the plate and replied indifferently, "No idea."

"Abella." Lola pressed on eagerly as Beckett was listening attentively. "Do you have a university that you wanna go to? Dad can help make arrangements."

"I'm not interested in going to university," Abella frankly stated.

Lola tried hard to hold back her smile as she thought, 'Oh, come on! That's a lame excuse. She must have bad grades and doesn't want to let others know about it.'

"That's fine. I didn't like to go to school back then. And your Grandpa even bumped into me when I once skipped class..."

Beckett babbled a little as he recalled his past and suddenly remembered that Abella once said that her hobby was to make money.

He had an idea. "Well, Abella, what do you want to do in the future? Is there any industry you are interested in? If you want to be a star, I will make you popular!"

Weren't there many little girls who wanted to be Internet celebrities and idols now?

If Abella wanted to become a famous star, he would definitely support it to the end!

This was an unexpected question for Abella.

And Lola was shocked to hear that.

"I don't want to be a star," Abella said frankly.

"What's your plan? Where does your interest lay?" Beckett asked curiously.

"Fashion design, maybe."

"Fashion design is great!" Beckett exclaimed happily. "It's summer vacation now anyway. I happen to have a small clothing company. It's close to home. You can try your hands at the fashion industry."

Abella was speechless.

"If you like being a boss there more than going to school, you can just forgo university. The Medici family has so many companies. You don't need a diploma anyway, right?" Beckett said.

Abella didn't expect Beckett to be so open-minded. Lola clenched her fists under the table.

She thought, 'Dad actually wants to give Abella a company to try her hands at? That fashion company is slow in development compared with other companies in other industries as it only started half a year ago. But still, it's a company! Abella just returned home for one day and she's entitled to inherit the family business already?'

Beckett kept saying, "If you don't want to work, we're happy to give you an allowance every day."

Abella's mouth twitched as she wondered what her parents were thinking.

The servants around them were all envious. The gap between them was simply too big.

The difference between the rich and the poor was immense.

Lola's nails dug deep into her palms as she was furious about the favor Beckett showed Abella.

"I haven't given you an allowance today!" Kimberly said, pulling out her phone, "Shall I transfer fifty million first? Sweetheart, what's your bank account number?"

"No need." Abella has some money, enough to get by.

"I'll also transfer fifty million, and when you've thought it over, let me know the answer. No rush." Beckett also took out his phone, preparing to transfer money to Abella.

The servants around them grew even more envious. If they could receive a hundred million from their biological parents every day, who needed to run a company or make money?

"Sweetheart, give me your bank account number quickly, or I'll have to transfer it to you in batches via PayPal!"

"Isn't your PayPal account your phone number? I'm transferring it now..."

"Fifty million might be too little, right? How about eighty million? The number eight is good!"

"That's right! Eight is Abella's lucky number!"

Feeling defeated, Abella gave up and said, "Give me the address."

"What?" Beckett and Kimberly were taken aback. Suddenly, they gasped Abella meaning—she was choosing to run the company.

"That's great." Laughing, Kimberly sent an address and said, "It is really a small company. It's normal if it loses money or goes bankrupt. Don't put too much pressure on yourself."

Abella said nothing.

"I have more companies than one can count. Just enjoy the process!" Beckett picked up the conversation.

Abella remained silent.

Lola was consumed by jealousy and immediately came up with another scheme. She plastered a standard smile on her face and said, "Abella, the items that Mom and Dad gave you yesterday don't seem suitable for work. Since I'm free today, let me take you to the biggest shopping center in town. I heard that you moved to New York with your foster parents six months ago from a small place. I bet you haven't been to the biggest shopping center in town yet."

"That's right. Abella just came here. We haven't taken her shopping yet. Jacob, get a car ready!" Kimberly said.

As soon as she finished speaking, Abella replied calmly, "Don't bother." She wanted some alone time because there were still many things she needed to handle.

"Abella, I've picked out some tourist attractions for us. Which one do you want to go first?" Beckett asked.

"How about I take you to the beauty salon for a spa treatment?" Kimberly suggested.

"Abella, I can also accompany you for afternoon tea." Lola offered.

"Maybe later." Abella stood up and said, "I shall go upstairs and keep on organizing my room. Please enjoy yourselves."

As Abella left the dining room, Kimberly grew anxious. "Do you need my help unpacking?"

"Or should we send Lauren to help you out?" Beckett looked at her back worriedly. "Did you not sleep well last night?"

"No, and no. It's just personal business." Abella patiently answered all their questions before returning to her room.

Just as she sat down on the bed, her phone vibrated. Clare was calling.

"Abella, there will be an auction of Weed of Heart at 3 pm this afternoon! There are six of them! I've already prepared enough funds!"

Abella smiled slightly, "That's very generous of you."

"That goes without saying! As long as you need it, I'll give you anything, let alone money. Of course, my life isn't included."

"OK." Abella heard the last sentence and sneered, "Are you afraid of death?"

"I value my life! That's it. Alright, enough chit-chat. I'll pick you up at 2 pm."

"Okay." Abella accepted Clare's offer without hesitation and sent over an address.

Downstairs.

Since breakfast, Lola had been trying to please Beckett and Kimberly.

She gave them massages and said nice things to make them laugh heartily. By noon, the couple went to the kitchen, leaving Lola finally able to relax completely.
