Chapter 806 To Tell the Truth
After hanging up, Beckett hurriedly asked, "What did she say?"
"She said that when Phillipe showed up tonight, many girls surrounded him, and some even confessed their feelings publicly. Before that, Enid did see Mr. Bourbon appear and deliberately tried to please him, with a very clear intention."
Hearing this, Beckett recalled Lola's tearful face and couldn't help but say, "It seems we really wronged Lola."
"Not necessarily. Let's ask Abella tomorrow." Kimberly's feelings were also complicated. After all, on one side was Lola, whom she had cherished for eighteen years, and on the other was her biological daughter Abella, whom she had neglected for eighteen years. Sitting at the dressing table, she removed her jewelry and couldn't help but recall the past.
The next morning, Abella came to the dining table and found that Lola was already sitting there.
"Abella, you're awake?" Lola greeted her proactively.
Abella didn't know what she was up to. She picked up a glass of milk and took a few sips absentmindedly, showing no intention of engaging with her.
Lola said, "About last night, I'm sorry. It was indeed my fault."
As she spoke, Lola opened a bottle of mustard and poured a lot into her glass.
Abella was puzzled. 'Is she crazy?'
"This is my sincere apology. I'll drink it first as a sign of respect." Lola picked up the glass filled with mustard water, frowned, and almost vomited before she could drink half of it.
"What are you doing now?" Abella's cold eyes fell on her, casually observing her.
Lola wanted to say something, but it was too spicy. She fanned herself with her hand, and Abella could see the bruises and snake bite marks on her wrist.
Lola struggled to finish the mustard water. By the time she had only two sips left, her lips were swollen from the spice, her face was red, and she looked like she was on fire. She felt extremely uncomfortable and endured the pain for a while before barely finishing the mustard water. Then she ran to the kitchen sink.
Abella knew she went to rinse her mouth. She continued eating her breakfast slowly. After a while, Lola returned with swollen lips and tears from the spiciness in her eyes.
"I won't do anything to upset you again. After Easter, Henry and I will find a good day to get engaged. If possible, I'll move out and stay far away from you and this family. I hope we can let bygones be bygones."
Abella raised her beautiful eyes, understanding, "It seems someone wants to take revenge on you. You're afraid I'll say something, so you're using mustard water and engagement to make me let it go?"
Lola didn't expect her to be so smart and guess it right away. Since that was the case, Lola looked at Abella firmly and asked directly, "Is that okay?"
"Then tell me, was it you who killed the person in Aunt Bonnie's basement?"
Lola was stunned, completely unprepared for Abella to ask such an unrelated question. The cold and terrifying basement still made Lola shiver when she thought about it.
"Are the dangers I experienced in Verdania related to you?" Abella asked directly, looking into her eyes.
Lola was taken aback, "What dangers?"
"What dangers? What are you talking about?" Kimberly had just stepped into the dining room and heard them talking about dangers. She asked, puzzled, "What happened?"
"Nothing," Lola and Abella said in unison, not wanting to worry their mother.
"Lola, what's wrong with your lips? Why are they so swollen? And why is your face so red?" Beckett asked, puzzled.
"I..." Lola was about to explain, but her stomach felt like it was on fire, making her want to vomit. "I need to go to the restroom."
Before leaving the table, she glanced at Abella, not knowing if it was a plea for Abella to let it go or a fear that Abella might say something.
Kimberly sat at the dining table and, seeing Lola leave, said, "Abella, I heard you're KnightStrategist and Stringless. Do you know how shocked I was when I heard this from a friend last night? You're so outstanding that I can't even find words to praise you."
"Yeah, you're a master in your field. Abella, you must have had a hard time all these years," Beckett said, adding some fried potatoes to her plate and refilling her milk. "We always hear about your excellence from others. Abella, you're too low-key."
"Those are just titles given by others." Abella didn't take these titles seriously. Whether it was Go Master or Violin Master, they were just empty names to her.
But it was precisely because of her low profile that she was more likable.
"Abella, do you know how many people spend their whole lives trying to earn such a title? It just shows that your teachers over the past eighteen years have put a lot of effort into you. We really need to find time to thank them properly. You are indeed very talented and hardworking."
Beckett knew that achieving such accomplishments required continuous effort and dedication.
"You're really amazing. I'm so proud of you!" Beckett praised her, his eyes reddening, feeling that Abella had indeed endured a lot over the years.
"Abella, I'm also proud of you. Last night at the birthday party, I heard that Lola and her friends were badmouthing you, saying you ruined her engagement with Phillipe?" Kimberly said, then quickly added, "Of course, you don't need to feel pressured. Just tell us what you know. Don't worry about our feelings or anyone else's."
"Yeah, don't hide the truth because we loved her for eighteen years or because you're afraid we'll be sad or for any other reason. Just tell us the truth. Did Lola really do that?"
Beckett said, and Kimberly interrupted, "Abella's ears are so sharp that she could hear Lola and Enid's conversation. But Abella, you can tell us everything you know, see, and hear."
"Yes, let us understand too," Beckett said, looking at Abella expectantly.
Seeing that they genuinely wanted to know, Abella said calmly, "Enid did say that Lola told her I stole Phillipe."
Hearing that, Beckett and Kimberly were stunned!
