Chapter 774 The Two Did Not Return Together

Bonnie flashed a soft, sweet smile. "Eighteen years, Lola. Eighteen years I've loved you, and now you're just gonna bounce without a word?"

"Aunt Bonnie, what are you getting at?"

"I still see you as a kid. There are things you might not know how to handle, so I wanna help."

"Aunt Bonnie, you still think I offed that guy last night, don't you?" Lola's eyes welled up, her lip quivering as she asked, "Is that it?"

"Does this have anything to do with you?"

Lola's tears spilled over, her face a mix of hurt and anger. She tried to hold it in, but the frustration was too much.

"Aunt Bonnie, why do you think so low of me? If Abella hadn't come back, if there was no mix-up, would you still think this way about me?" Lola's voice cracked as she looked Bonnie in the eyes, "If I was still your blood niece, still part of this family, would you still think I killed that guy?"

Bonnie stayed silent, her eyes giving nothing away.

"Just 'cause I'm not a Medici by blood, you think you can accuse me of anything. Aunt Bonnie, if you ever find out I had nothing to do with this, will you feel even a bit guilty for what you're saying now?"

Bonnie's eyes stayed on her, but she didn't say a word.

Lola's smile was bitter and sad. "I know you won't, 'cause I'm not the niece you care about anymore. Now you have Abella, who's all impressive and capable. The more distant and quiet she is, the more you think she's better than me, right?"

"Lola." Bonnie, calm and collected, didn't flinch.

Bonnie said coolly, "You might've forgotten, I just got back to this family too. After everything, I see people differently now, unlike your grandparents who are stuck in the past. Someone who lived as Abella for eighteen years, even fighting her over breakfast, ignoring what Abella went through. Someone who hid Abella's identity, making her boyfriend think Abella was after her fiancé. Someone who didn't care when her own boyfriend got hurt, not even a glance. Someone who, even drunk and acting out, was still thinking about Abella's fiancé. Do you think I can still see her the same way?"

Lola looked at Bonnie, her expression a mix of confusion and pain.

"I watched you grow up, thought I knew you, but now I see you're a stranger. Maybe I never really knew you. So, let's cut to the chase, did you kill that guy?"

Lola shut her eyes, tears streaming down, and after a moment, she said, "It wasn't me."

Before Bonnie could say anything, Lola continued, "Aunt Bonnie, no matter how you ask, it wasn't me. I'm not admitting to something I didn't do. How he died has nothing to do with me. If that's all you wanna talk about, then we're done here."

Bonnie locked eyes with her and said straight up, "Alright, we won't talk about it then."

Lola blinked, a bit thrown off. She didn't expect Bonnie to back down so easily.

"Anyway, I've said my piece." Bonnie smiled, adjusted her posture all graceful-like, and added, "Whoever's trying to hire a hit on Abella or mess with her, I won't let them off easy. I hope it's not you, but if it is, I gave you a chance just now, and you didn't take it."

With that, she stood up, straightened her clothes, and was about to leave when she suddenly remembered something and smirked. "Oh, by the way, I mentioned someone wanting to hire a killer for Abella, and you didn't seem surprised at all. It's like you already knew that hiring a killer and last night's incident were the same thing."

Lola's face went pale as she stared at Bonnie.

"Goodbye." Bonnie didn't waste any more words and walked out.

Lola watched her leave, feeling the bond between them stretch thin.

An hour later, at the manor's helipad, servants were bustling around, moving luggage and gifts.

"These gifts are from Caleb and me, for your parents, and some are for you," Bonnie helped Abella straighten her clothes and whispered, "Be careful on your way back. I'll speed up the investigation here. Also, the matter I promised you will be taken care of within a week."

Abella knew Bonnie was talking about rooting out the remaining threats.

"Thanks for everything, Aunt Bonnie."

When Lola came down, she saw Bonnie whispering to Abella, the two of them laughing and chatting, with Caleb, Vanessa, and David all saying their goodbyes to Abella like she was the star of the show.

Whether it was sadness or jealousy, Lola couldn't move her feet.

Aimee hugged Abella tightly. "Ms. Abella Medici, I'll come with Mrs. Vanessa Harris to Long Island Manor to see you for Easter."

"Alright, it's not like we're parting forever." Vanessa laughed. "Abella, make sure to go on more dates with Phillipe. Don't leave him hanging."

Abella chuckled. "Got it."

"Lola's here too?" Caleb noticed Lola standing alone and called out warmly, "Lola, come over. Let me know once you and Abella get home safely."

"I'm not taking this plane," Abella explained, "I'm going back with Phillipe."

Everyone was surprised, then it clicked. Of course, she and Phillipe were a couple. Phillipe had come to Verdania for her, and now that she was heading back, Phillipe would naturally go with her.

"Is Phillipe done with his work here? When's this happening?" David asked, concerned.

"Just now."

Earlier, when Abella had quickly packed her bags, she got a call from Phillipe. She had planned to tell Caleb and Bonnie, but seeing them heading to the helipad, she came down to inform them.

But to Lola, this felt like a total show-off move!

Abella had plenty of chances to say it before, but she waited until Lola showed up to drop the news.
