Chapter 662 Fire Her

"Yo, Mr. Steven Medici, I seriously have no clue what you're on about," Maria shot back, stubborn as ever. "I'm old, my memory's shot. If you're gonna accuse me, at least jog my memory about what I supposedly did or said. Otherwise, I'm totally lost here."

Steven, ice-cold, replied, "Looks like you've been messing with Abella behind the scenes too, huh? Pack your stuff and get out. Lola's grown now; she doesn't need you anymore."

Maria's eyes went wide with shock. Before she could even react, the call was cut off.

'Steven's firing me? Kicking me out?' Maria was in total disbelief. She stood there, stunned, before frantically calling Steven back.

No answer.

After several tries, Maria's hands shook as she sent Steven a voice message.

Maria: [Mr. Steven Medici, I've busted my butt in this house for eighteen years, and now you're just gonna fire me outta nowhere? What's this big misunderstanding? I can explain everything.]

Five minutes passed.

Half an hour passed.

Not even a single punctuation mark from Steven.

Maria clutched her phone tight, panic setting in.

Steven must've seen that video; no other reason he'd be this dead set on firing her!

She thought back to that incident, still rattled.

It was ages ago.

After the servant Bia finished cleaning the garden, Maria had dumped two buckets of cooking oil on the wet ground, hoping Abella would slip when she got home from work.

In the sunlight, the oil patches looked just like water, blending perfectly with the wet ground. If you didn't look closely, you couldn't tell the difference.

She thought she nailed it until half an hour later when Abella came home, walked through the garden, and nothing happened.

Maria and Lola had been hiding behind the curtains, watching. They couldn't believe Abella hadn't slipped and was standing there, totally fine.

Abella then told Lola that Phillipe was outside the estate, wanting to talk to her.

Lola was over the moon; she'd been dying to talk to Phillipe.

Worried Lola might slip, Maria followed her closely. Despite their careful steps, they both ended up falling.

Lola slipped first, and when Maria tried to catch her, she went down too.

Both of them were carried into the living room, laid on the couch, crying out in pain.

This incident got Beckett and Kimberly all riled up.

At first, Kimberly felt bad for Lola, but then Bia and Grace hinted they should find out who made Lola fall, pointing fingers at Abella. Kimberly lost it.

Maria never thought the deleted surveillance footage could be recovered by Abella!

Who knew what kind of skills Abella had picked up out there!

Later, the footage proved Abella was innocent. It was Maria who had tripped over the threshold, spilling the oil and causing both herself and Lola to fall.

Because of this, Kimberly docked Maria's pay for a month, and Grace and Bia got fired by Kimberly.

Maria thought it was all over, but Abella privately showed her another piece of surveillance footage.

That's when Maria found out about these "micro surveillance cameras"!

Lola had told her that these weren't your run-of-the-mill cameras. They were super tiny but could capture every little detail in Empire Vista City, right down to car license plates and people's actions.

Word on the street was that only the top-tier elites got to use these micro cameras. Some folks said it was to boost the city's overall quality of life and safety, while others thought it was a test run in Empire Vista City before rolling it out nationwide to catch criminals with this high-tech gear.

Whatever the reason, Abella had snagged the footage, which clearly showed Maria by the truck's rear compartment, unscrewing the cooking oil bottle cap, and then faking a trip when she entered the house.

Abella had asked if the person in the footage was Maria, and if she couldn't recognize herself, she could show it to everyone for help.

With no other option, Maria had to kneel and apologize to Abella. Abella had promised that as long as Maria didn't cause any more trouble, she wouldn't show the footage to the family. But in the end, Abella had lied!

Abella had shown the footage to Steven!

Maria thought, 'What do I do now? My plan isn't even halfway done. I can't leave the Medici family!'

With that in mind, she called Steven again.

Steven was swamped at work and didn't get home until six in the evening. As soon as he walked in, Maria rushed up to him, all apologetic. "Mr. Steven Medici, I know I messed up. Please don't fire me!"

Even though Maria had found an excuse to send all the servants out of the living room, Lauren, who smelled something fishy, had secretly gathered a few servants to hide on the second floor and watch Maria's moves.

They were all shocked to see Maria crying and begging for forgiveness in front of Steven.

Steven looked at Maria with a cold stare. "Remember now?"

"I know what you're talking about, Mr. Steven Medici," Maria cried and pleaded. "Please, give me another chance. I'm begging you."

Steven's eyes were ice-cold, and his voice was just as frosty. "What chance?"

Maria, tears streaming down her face, looked up. "A chance to start fresh."

"Do you even know what mistake you made?"

Maria was stunned. 'Does Steven not know what mistake I made and is just trying to trick me?'

But then she thought, 'Steven's expression is more serious and colder than usual. He must know something; otherwise, he wouldn't be this mad.'

So Maria lowered her head again and said, "I shouldn't have unscrewed the cooking oil cap and spilled the oil on the ground, almost hurting Ms. Abella Medici. I'm really sorry, Mr. Steven Medici. I know I was wrong. I got what I deserved that time; I fell flat on my face and dragged Ms. Lola Medici down with me. I also apologized to Ms. Abella Medici, and she has already forgiven me!"

Maria looked up, hoping for Steven's forgiveness.

'Maria spills oil on the ground? Tries to make Abella fall? So Maria's done something like this!' Steven's eyes grew even colder. "What else?"

"Nothing else, nothing else," Maria cried, shaking her head. "I haven't done anything else!"

"Why did you try to harm her?"
