Chapter 1075 Confess
Phillipe got up and left. Isla wanted to beg him to stay, but before she could say a word, the effects of the drug hit her again, making her feel like she was dying.
For the next day and night, Phillipe's men tortured her without mercy.
The following morning, she was jolted awake by a splash of saltwater. The wounds from Abella's stabbing burned intensely from the salt, nearly causing her to pass out.
"You hurt my servant, kidnapped my daughter's friend, and tried to poison my daughter. Today, you're gonna pay for all of it!" Kimberly had Isla dragged in front of her and slapped her hard, over and over.
Isla's ears rang from the blows, blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, and she felt like a fish on a chopping block, completely at their mercy. She no longer hoped for Kimberly to spare her, only for the torture to end soon.
When Kimberly got tired, someone immediately brought a chair for her to rest.
Beckett massaged her hands and instructed the men to continue as they saw fit.
The men took out the needles Kimberly had provided and began to stab Isla's hands and feet.
Some of them targeted her wounds specifically, causing Isla to scream in agony. She passed out several times, only to be revived with more saltwater, enduring the torture over and over.
"Someone as cruel as you doesn't deserve to live," Kimberly said, thinking of her daughter covered in blood when Phillipe brought her home. She felt that Isla's suffering was still too light.
When Isla was on the brink of death, Kimberly finally stood up, her high heels pressing down on Isla's hand.
Isla's whole body trembled in pain, and she nearly blacked out.
"Don't worry, I won't let you die so easily!" Kimberly said before leaving with her entourage.
After an unknown amount of time, Abella's brothers arrived one after another, and the small dark room echoed with Isla's harrowing screams.
Meanwhile, Abella received a call from Rodolfo.
"Abella, I've found some clues recently," Rodolfo's voice came through the line.
"You've been investigating for me?" Abella was surprised. She hadn't expected Rodolfo, at his age, to be so concerned and active in her matters.
"Based on your blood test results, the antidote you made, and your symptoms, I suspect you've been poisoned with Sevenfold Poison."
This Sevenfold Poison caused excruciating pain before making the victim bleed to death.
Rodolfo continued, "One essential herb for making Sevenfold Poison is Bowelbane Herb. I tracked down the buyers of this herb and found a man nicknamed Stone. He's in his twenties, with no great ambitions, just wanting to make quick money. Ironically, he ended up dying from his own creation, Sevenfold Poison."
Abella was taken aback. "You mean the person who bought the Sevenfold Poison from him killed him afterward?"
"Exactly," Rodolfo confirmed.
"Isla doesn't have the power or resources for this. Who could it be?" Abella pondered.
"I checked the nearby surveillance and talked to the villagers. A witness saw someone heading towards Stone's house. I had Ian sketch the features described by the witness. Do you recognize this person?" Rodolfo said, sending her a hand-drawn portrait.
Abella opened the image. It showed a tall, thin man wearing a black mask and a black baseball cap.
"Scorpion?" Abella was taken aback.
Rodolfo was even more surprised. "You know him? Who is Scorpion?"
Abella recounted the incident where Sam had pointed a weapon at the auction house owner.
The person in the sketch matched the description of Scorpion, especially the cold, killer-like eyes devoid of any human emotion.
"If I'm not mistaken, he's Jacob's right-hand man. Before Jacob died, he left a phone with Lola, which likely has Scorpion's contact information. So, Scorpion must be secretly working for Lola," Abella speculated.
Rodolfo was impressed by her analysis. "So, Lola saw the news about Jeff and Skylar's execution, guessed Isla's hatred, and used Isla to try to get rid of you?"
"Very likely. We just need to catch Scorpion to confirm everything," Abella said, thanking Rodolfo for his efforts and urging him to rest and not take any more risks.
Rodolfo couldn't help but ask, "If we catch Scorpion and he admits Lola wanted you dead, what will you do with Lola?"
Without hesitation, Abella replied, "She tried to kill me. Do you think I'd show mercy?"
Rodolfo was relieved to hear this. He had feared Abella might go soft because of family ties.
If it was indeed Lola behind this, Rodolfo wouldn't let her off either.
A while later, Abella received another call.
"Ms. Medici, Isla finally confessed under torture. Someone paid her a large sum to hire a hitman to kill you. But she couldn't find a hitman right away, so she didn't act immediately."
The caller continued, "Later, that person gave her the contact of a hitman group leader. Isla hired them for two days to kidnap Josie, Joanna, and Lauren as hostages to lure you in."
The caller paused before adding, "Since your medical skills are well-known, Isla feared ordinary poison wouldn't kill you. She asked for a more potent poison, and that person provided Sevenfold Poison, which causes death by bleeding after three hours of intense pain."
Abella asked calmly, "Did Isla say who that person was? Why did they help her?"
"She said the person claimed to be your enemy, more eager for your death than she was, but couldn't act directly. Isla also mentioned that the person always wore a black mask and a black baseball cap, was a man, tall and thin, with a scar about 2 inches long on the back of his left hand."
"Got it," Abella said, hanging up.
All evidence pointed to Scorpion. They just needed to catch him, check for the scar, and confirm if he was working for Lola. Then the truth would be revealed.
