Chapter 746 Absolutely Disagree
Meanwhile, Henry had just wrapped up his work and was about to bounce to his appointment when he bumped into Cecil.
"Henry, I need your help, like, right now," Cecil barged into his office, looking all stressed. "There's this developer who's a total pain to deal with. The contract's still not signed, and my grandpa's losing it. If I don't get it done today, I'm toast. Can you come with me and pretend to be part of my team?"
Before Cecil could finish, Henry shoved him away. "I got plans with Lola. Can't do it today."
"Didn't she get enough fun yesterday? She still got you on a leash today?" Cecil's eyes popped. "Dude, are you a glutton for punishment? She treats you like crap, and you still put up with it?"
"None of your business."
"Fine, you and her got forever to hang out. But you know how my grandpa is about this contract."
"Today’s a no-go," Henry said seriously, stopping in his tracks. "Lola's been feeling down lately. I gotta be there for her."
"What's she moping about?" Cecil asked, "This contract is urgent. You've closed so many deals; you know the drill. At least give me some tips on what the other side's thinking and how we can seal the deal. What do I need to give up?"
"Cecil," Henry looked at him with a firm but gentle stare, making it clear there was no room for debate. "Lola really needs me."
Cecil thought, 'Aren't you just her backup boyfriend? How important can you be to her?'
But not wanting to hurt his buddy's feelings, he said, "Can't you push it to tomorrow?"
"These days are special. She's super sensitive, and I'm worried she'll overthink stuff." Henry didn't want to hide it and told Cecil that Lola wasn't actually the Medici family's daughter.
Cecil's eyes went wide with disbelief. "What did you say? Lola found out she wasn't the Medici family's daughter half a year ago, and she's still acting all high and mighty around you?"
She was lucky anyone liked her at all!
The Hall family's status was way better than her original family!
And she had a handsome, promising, responsible guy like Henry who doted on her and loved her unconditionally.
What more could she want?
Henry added, "Try to stall that developer as much as you can. If I get back early, I'll go with you."
"Henry, I haven't finished talking." Cecil watched him leave, feeling anxious and sighing inwardly. 'Henry, how can you be so foolish!'
Meanwhile, Whitney went to Henry's company and heard that he had just left. She didn't know when he'd be back. The staff said Henry left in a hurry, like he had something urgent to handle. So, she didn't dare call or text him, just worrying in her heart.
After waiting for half an hour, the office door finally opened. Whitney looked up eagerly and anxiously said, "Henry."
But it was her daughter Melanie who walked in.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Melanie came in, clearly pissed but immediately softened up seeing Whitney. "Are you here to see Henry?"
"Why, do you need him for something?" Whitney was surprised and said honestly, "The staff said he went out in a hurry. I don't know when he'll be back. What do you need him for?"
"Mom." Melanie hesitated. She really couldn't stand Lola Medici. She'd just gotten a text from her best friend, who saw Lola shopping yesterday. Lola had blown two million bucks on Henry's gold card.
She was fuming and wanted to confront Henry.
But she didn't expect to run into Whitney here.
"Melanie, is Henry seeing someone? Do you know about this?" Whitney asked first.
Melanie was a bit taken aback. "Did he tell you, or did you find out yourself?"
"I went shopping yesterday." Whitney spilled the whole story.
Melanie was floored that Lola had been so rude, trash-talking the QY brand, dissing the salespeople, indirectly insulting Whitney, and using Henry's gold card to snatch up stuff Whitney wanted.
"Mom, I can't keep this under wraps anymore." Melanie laid it all out, including how arrogant Lola was on Riviera Avenue and her insistence on booking the SkySteel Spire.
Whitney was stunned that Henry had messaged his dad about booking a venue for a woman.
This was so not like Henry.
When Henry started his business, no matter how tough things got, he never asked the family for help.
But now, he broke that rule for a woman.
Just then, Cecil messaged Melanie, and she was floored.
After a moment of shock, she told Whitney, "Lola isn't the Medici family's daughter. She was switched at birth! She has no blood relation to the Medici family."
"What did you say?" Whitney was even more shocked.
After hearing Melanie explain, Whitney slammed the table in anger. "So, she knows her original family isn't as good as the Hall family, but she still acts all high and mighty because Henry likes her. I will never allow someone like her to marry into the Hall family! Call Henry now and tell him to be here within half an hour. I need to talk to him personally."
Melanie also felt it was necessary for Whitney to step in and set Henry straight. Otherwise, Lola would wreck his future and the Hall family's future!
They weren't even engaged yet, and Lola was already spending Henry's money like crazy and pushing him around.
What would happen if they actually got married?
Melanie didn't think she was being unreasonable. Even if Lola's original family was terrible and her biological parents were missing, as long as she was willing to live a good life with Henry, none of that would matter.
But Lola bullied Henry all the time. Someone like her would bring chaos to the Hall family.
She whipped out her phone and called Henry, angrily saying, "Mom wants you at the company within half an hour. Don't say I didn't warn you. Mom is really pissed right now. You already missed Grandpa's birthday once. If you don't show up this time, no one can save you."
Henry's car was halfway to his destination when he heard Melanie say, "Mom's heart isn't doing well. Her old condition has flared up. If you make her any angrier, you'll regret it."
Seeing the call had ended, Henry finally turned his car around and headed back to the company.
