Chapter 749 Discovered a Problem
"Hey, bring me all the dishes my folks love, and throw in a few extras," Bonnie casually told the manager next to her, adding some of Abella and Lola's favorites.
Lola shot a smug look at Abella, thinking, 'Aunt Bonnie's ordering four dishes for you and four for me. Guess we're on the same level in her eyes.'
Abella was glued to her phone, probably texting someone, not even sparing Lola a glance.
But Lola was still feeling pretty pleased with herself. She snapped a few pics on the terrace and then called out, "Grandpa, Grandma, come take some photos with me, will ya?"
David and Vanessa were deep in conversation. Hearing Lola, they had to pause and brave the cold to take a few snaps with her.
Then Lola turned to the others, "Uncle Caleb, Aunt Bonnie, can you come out and take some pics with me too?"
Bonnie was pouring coffee for Vanessa and playfully scolded, "So many people, and you don't call Abella? Folks might think you're doing it on purpose."
Lola felt a bit awkward and quickly laughed it off. "Of course not, I was saving the best for last. Besides, Abella wouldn't overthink it, right?"
She glanced at Abella, who was still busy with her phone, not even looking her way.
"Everyone can take pictures inside where it's warm. It's freezing out here," Bonnie said, pouring more coffee for David.
"Yeah, let's take pics inside," David agreed, moving his chair to Abella's left. "Abella, wanna take some photos too?"
"Yeah, we took some with Lola earlier, now it's Abella's turn," Vanessa said, scooting her chair closer to Abella's right.
Abella finished her message and had just opened a financial report when David and Vanessa leaned over, looking surprised. "Abella, you can read Verdania's language? Is this a financial report? Do you work in Verdania?"
"I run a small group," Abella replied, noticing Bonnie had somehow leaned over and seen the company seal on the report.
"Abella, what's your role at Beauty Skincare Group?" Bonnie asked, a bit taken aback. Reading a financial report meant her position was at least a general manager.
Abella answered honestly, "I'm the head."
"Did you start Beauty Skincare Group?"
"Yep."
This shocked not just Bonnie but everyone else too.
"Beauty Skincare Group is a big name in Verdania. I noticed it a year ago, but I had no idea you started it," Caleb said, surprised and impressed. "I knew your Verdania pronunciation was spot on, but I never imagined you founded a company there."
"No wonder Aimee always raves about your skincare products. So, you're the head of Beauty Skincare Group. Does that mean you developed all the products?" Vanessa asked, amazed.
Abella replied, "The main series."
The main series of Beauty Skincare Group tackled all skin issues. After using it, acne vanished, pores shrank, blackheads disappeared, and the skin became smooth and radiant.
But the other series were developed by her research team because she had a bunch of companies under her name and couldn't handle everything herself.
"That's wild," everyone chimed in, totally blown away by how impressive Abella was at such a young age.
Seeing everyone crowding around Abella, with Bonnie even snapping pics of her with their grandparents, Lola felt a twinge of jealousy but kept a smile plastered on her face. "Let's do a family photo later. I'm gonna head outside and grab some night shots first!"
There was another big terrace at the end of the hallway, perfect for capturing Caleb's eco-resort, the golf course, and the city lights.
After a bit, Lola came back, head down, editing photos on her phone, and didn't forget to ask Bonnie for her opinion. "How's this one? What do you think of the lighting in this one?"
"You've overdone it," Bonnie said bluntly. "This one doesn't work; your eyes look too forced, and the smile's kinda fake. This one's no good either; your chin's too sharp. And this one? You're overdoing the cute pose. Most of your pics have pouting lips, which isn't flattering."
Lola had taken over twenty photos, and in the end, Bonnie only praised one landscape shot that captured Caleb's eco-resort and golf course.
Just then, the restaurant manager personally brought out the dishes.
One by one, delicious and beautifully presented dishes were set on the table. The restaurant manager respectfully introduced each dish before stepping away.
Everyone started digging in, and Lola suggested, "Let's have a toast. First, to celebrate Grandpa and Grandma's good health, second, to celebrate Aunt Bonnie's safe return, and third, to celebrate Abella's return to the family."
Bonnie, seeing Lola finally acting sensible, picked up her glass. "Let's all toast together."
Abella picked up her lemon water and clinked glasses with everyone. Just as she was about to drink, she noticed something weird floating in her glass.
Even though there were tiny bits of lemon pulp floating inside, upon closer look, there were also some super fine, tiny specks of powder gradually dissolving.
She usually drank lemon water, so she could spot even the slightest difference.
She brought the glass closer to her nose and sniffed. It was just the usual lemon water scent. Could it be that someone had spiked her drink with something colorless and tasteless?
Everyone else downed their lemon water in one gulp, and Abella noticed that their glasses had no floating powder.
"Abella, why aren't you drinking? Lemon water's great for cutting through the grease, especially after eating a lot of meat." Lola's voice snapped Abella back to reality.
"I was just thinking, with my sudden return to this family, would you feel a big sense of loss?"
Hearing Abella's unexpected question, Lola was momentarily stunned but quickly laughed. "Of course not. This family is originally yours. I'm already super grateful that you're willing to let me stay."
Abella added, "Even if the family treats me better, compensates me, and gives me more than they give you, you wouldn't mind?"
"Of course not," Lola said, not understanding why Abella was bringing this up.
She thought, 'Has Abella already noticed something? No way. Maria said the drug is colorless and tasteless and will dissolve completely in less than a minute.'
