Chapter 373 Such A Disappointment

Oh, that's right!!

Sierra remembered!!

She had the chat transcripts!!

"Abella, still stick to your lies, eh? It’s a good thing that my phone has ample storage. All the chat history is saved clearly... I’ll find it right now!"

Sierra pulled up her chat history with Lola, searching for keywords like "water" and "pool"...

Quickly, the relevant messages and timestamps surfaced.

"See this?" Sierra flashed the phone screen in front of everyone. "How will you talk your way out of this?"

"Oh..." Abella glanced at the date Lola claimed to have been splashed. "I happened to be flying to Switzerland that day."

Mr. Walker was considering euthanasia at the time, and Phillipe had arranged for a private jet for her. She flew out that day and didn’t return in the evening.

"And about the pool... if I recall clearly, the Medici family mansion's pool is drained and cleaned every Monday. No water means if I had pushed her in, she would have hit the bottom. Wouldn’t she be dead?"

Lola, who thought she had a winning hand, suddenly turned pale at Abella's words.

Lola was venting to Sierra in a spout of frustration about Abella. She recklessly threw around baseless accusations, not really thinking much of it...

Seeing Lola's reaction, Sierra was also a little skeptical, but out of loyalty to her friend, she defended, "How do we know if what you're saying is true or not?"

"She's not lying," Ethan abruptly cut in. "Cleaning the pool every Monday has been a long-standing tradition for the Medici family. The day she flew to Switzerland, my family also mentioned that it was because of Abella's senior friend's health issue. Abella went to visit him and didn't return that day... As for the clothes being cut, let me call home and check."

"Ethan..." Lola just said one word, but then she saw the deep disappointment in Ethan's eyes.

She had shouted Ethan's name too desperately, too anxiously!

She was caught in her lie!!

"So, you smear your own sister's name like this in front of your friends?" Ethan's tone was now brimming with disappointment.

When did his once innocent and kind sister start to change?

"Ethan, just hear me out... About what happened..." Lola began to explain, then glancing around at Sierra and the three other acquaintances standing by. Lola lowered her voice, "Can we talk about this somewhere private? This is a family matter, after all..."

"Let's talk here," Ethan said firmly, which made Clare and the others breathe a sigh of relief. They thought, “Thank goodness Ethan is reasonable. Now, we’ll see how Lola would get out of this.”

"Ethan... I..." How could Lola admit to smearing Abella in front of so many people? Wouldn't that ruin her reputation?

Sierra, impatient with Lola's silence, asked, "Lola, what's really going on? You wouldn't lie to me, right? Why would you tarnish Abella's name without any reason? And you said she stole your fiancé..."

"He wasn't her fiancé! He was engaged to Abella!"

Clare, Josie, and Joanna chimed in unison, startling Sierra. What was going on?

"Lola is the adopted one!!"

The trio spoke again in harmony, leaving Sierra and her three other friends agape...

“Lola was the adopted one?”

“Phillipe was Abella's fiancé??”

“How could this be possible??”

“Was everything turned upside down??” They were shocked.

Lola never expected the persona she had worked so hard to build would crumble like this. She closed her eyes deeply, and after a long moment, she laughed, slowly standing up.

Now that everything was out in the open, there was no point in hiding it...

"Yes, I am the adopted one..." Lola said quietly, her head down. It took her a while to look up and face Abella, her eyes filled with self-mockery, sorrow, and envy, "She is the legitimate daughter."

"What... What's going on here?" Sierra and the three friends were bewildered.

Lola didn't want to respond to their question. Instead, her gaze returned to Ethan. She said every word with a piercing cry. "You all keep saying even if Abella is back, you'll still treat me like family... But everything you do, every word you say, it's all in her favor!"

Tears of injustice streamed down Lola's face. "Ethan, we've lived together for eighteen years. Doesn't our bond mean more than a sister who just returned?"

Ethan's eyes clouded with complexity. It wasn't like that.

"And you," Lola raised her voice at Abella, "since the day you walked through that door, have you ever been kind to me?"

Clare couldn't stand it any longer and interjected, "Abella has always been reserved, but she has a really good heart."

"You!" Lola glared at Clare. "Why do you care? What business is it of yours to meddle in other people's lives?"

As she spoke, Lola's tears flowed again, conveying her heartbreak and disappointment. "All I wanted was to continue feeling the love of my parents and my brothers, just like before. What did I do wrong? Why did everything change when Abella returned?"

"This is her home; she belongs here," Ethan replied with customary restraint, though his eyes grew gloomier. "For eighteen years, you lived the life meant for her. And now, when she returns, you tarnish her name and spread rumors. Did you or did you not tell your classmates that she was kept by some old man?"

Clare, Josie, and Joanna were shocked. "What? Did she say that? If Lola did, she was way out of the line."

"I didn't... It wasn't me!" Lola shook her head and laughed in despair, "Is it so? Now, any nasty rumor about her automatically came from me? Let me clear this again. I didn’t start that rumor!"

"Did your sister-in-law really push you?" Ethan looked into her eyes, his expression a mix of hope and disappointment.

"Would you believe me if I said yes?" Lola was crying and laughing at the same time. "And if I said no, would you be even more disappointed?"

"No need for your little drama. I've got the surveillance footage from earlier," Clare interjected, cutting her off and playing the slow-motion video on her phone for everyone to see. There, clear as day, Camila pulled her hand back while Lola deliberately threw herself to the ground...

The truth was unveiled!

Sierra was stunned by the revelation. Could it really be that Lola had fallen on purpose? She’d defended Lola out of trust, as a good friend would, claiming she saw Camila push Lola...

But to discover the truth was this...

Sierra felt an overwhelming sense of disappointment in Lola...

"I thought you were my best friend, but you played me like a fool! You've been deceiving me over and over! Was that fainting act just for show?" Sierra clenched her teeth, "Lola, you’re such a disappointment!"
