Chapter 365 Finally Agreed
"Ethan's never brought a girl home before. You're the first!" Mr. Medici said with a hearty chuckle, warmly adding, "Someone, bring tea! Oh, right, Abella, is it okay for her to drink tea with her injury?"
"A little bit should be fine," Abella responded.
"Alright then, Lauren, bring out our finest tea!"
If Abella said it was okay, it must be alright.
Camila was so embarrassed that she wished she could vanish into thin air, "Uncle, Auntie, please don't trouble yourselves... I was just passing by..."
Claiming to be just passing by at this point would convince no one...
When my second-born fell in love for the first time, he didn't even have the sense to pick you up himself, making you come to find us," Mrs. Medici said, casting a reproachful look at Ethan. She thought, "Honestly, do you have any idea how to treat a lady?"
Before Ethan could respond, Mrs. Medici turned to the young woman and asked, "Darling, what happened to you?"
At night, a noticeable gash appeared suddenly on a pretty girl's neck...
"It was too dark, and I took a nasty fall and scratched myself on a rock..." Camila took the blame upon herself to spare Ethan’s sister from any scolding.
"What kind of rock leaves such a mark? Was it one of ours at the front door? Somebody, go outside and check right now. Throw away any rocks that could potentially hurt someone!"
After issuing her command, Mrs. Medici muttered, "The girl just got here, and already she's hurt. How's she supposed to explain this to her parents..."
"Mom, it's because..." Abella started to talk, intending to reveal that it was her fault.
Camila cut her off sharply, "You're Abella, right? My name's Camila Lott. It's nice to meet you."
The surname Lott stopped Mr. and Mrs. Medici in their tracks.
What did they just hear?
"Camila Lott?"
"You... " Mrs. Medici was stunned for a moment before asking incredulously, "Is your father by any chance Alpin Lott?"
"Yes... But I don't really know him that well, heh heh heh..." Camila forced a smile, fearing that Mr. and Mrs. Medici would push her away once they discovered who she was, just like Ethan did.
Not close with her own father?
Who was she kidding...?
Abella was clueless about Camila's identity until Phillipe whispered that she was the Secretary of State's daughter. Suddenly, it all made sense to her.
No wonder Camila had said earlier that Ethan didn't agree to be with her because of identity issues...
So it was about that kind of status!
"You rascal, keeping quiet about having a girlfriend, and not just any girl..." Mr. Medici left the sentence hanging, contemplating the predicament of their guest getting hurt on her first day. He thought, “How are we going to explain this?”
"Miss Camila, please have some tea." A servant presented the tea to Camila.
Mrs. Medici took the cup herself and handed it to Camila, "Here, dear, take a sip of tea first."
"Thank you, Auntie, there's no need to trouble yourself. I can get it..." Camila realized the Medici family was overwhelmingly hospitable.
"You're new here, not yet familiar with the place. After you've finished your tea, let Ethan show you around."
"Dad, Camila and I..." Ethan tried to explain that his relationship with Camila wasn't what they thought...
But Mr. Medici interrupted with a smile, "Well, what are you waiting for? Go on now."
It was pretty clear that Camila was in love with him. What a lucky guy to have such a beautiful and sweet girl crushing on him...
"..." Ethan was trying to explain further, but Camila had already stepped forward and held his arm...
Now, he felt like even the mighty Mississippi wouldn't be enough to wash away the situation.
"Your family is so welcoming and warm..." Camila beamed as they ascended the stairs, thrilled to have her arm entwined with his.
Glancing at her neck, Ethan's eyes softened, "Does it still hurt?"
"It's fine, it's fine..." Camila started to shake her head to show she was okay, but she inadvertently pulled at her wound, and a flash of pain crossed her eyes.
"It doesn't hurt, huh?" Ethan gave her a look that was both annoyed and worried, "Be careful with your movements."
"Oh..."
"Why didn't you call me before you came over?"
"I heard you brought a girlfriend home... so I thought I'd come take a look..." Camila's voice trailed off, her head sinking lower as she realized she had a big misunderstanding.
Upon hearing this, Ethan realized she was here to check up on him...
Who had spread the rumors, and why were they so ridiculously wrong? Glancing back at Camila, Ethan found her head hanging low as if she knew she was wrong. She seemed all the more endearing.
"Is this your room? It's so neat and tidy!" Camila was surprised that the man's room reflected his personality, meticulous and unpretentious, yet exuding a quiet elegance.
"Yeah," Ethan showed her around, "Next time you have a question, just come to me directly. Don't just wait outside foolishly. Did you suffer from any mosquito bites?”
“Ah? No, none..." Camila was taken aback. Was he... showing concern for her?
"Did you arrive this afternoon?"
"Yeah!" Camila nodded, "I saw you bought a lot of stuff, thought it was for your girlfriend..."
"So you got jealous?"
"Just a tiny bit..." Camila pinched her fingers to show just how little.
Ethan couldn't help but chuckle.
"See, I'm pretty good, right? I've been following you for so long, and you never noticed. That means your counter-surveillance skills need work!"
"Huh? What needs work?" Ethan suddenly leaned in close, his handsome face scrutinizing her, "What did you just say I was lacking?"
"You..." Camila's face flushed. She suspected there was something up, but she lacked the evidence!
Ethan took out his phone to order some food from the kitchen. He thought, “The poor girl had been lying in wait since the afternoon. She must be starving.”
"Ethan, I like you, let's go out!" Camila suddenly hugged him from behind, greedily breathing in his scent, "If my background is a problem, I can leave my family... be with you as a regular person. As long as it's with you, I'm willing to do anything!"
For this, she had not only endured the most rigorous training to join the Homeland Security Department, but she had also risen from the ranks to become the deputy secretary.
All of her achievements were not because of her father, but the result of her relentless effort... all to be a little closer to Ethan, just a little bit more...
"I've liked you for so many years. Give me a chance?"
Ethan turned around and gently stroked her hair, his gaze and voice softer than she had ever heard before, "Promise me, from now on, you won't let yourself get hurt again, okay?"
Camila froze, her heart skipping a beat. Did she hear that right? Did Ethan really agree?
"You remember that?" he asked.
"I do, I do!!!" she exclaimed, hugging him tight with joy. "Ethan, you said yes! After four years, you jerk, you finally said yes..."
She had been waiting so long, far too long!
"That makes you happy?" Ethan inquired, chuckling.
"Yes, so happy! Happier than winning a billion-dollar lottery!" Camila's eyes were tinged with tears as she clung to him possessively. "It's been tough to get you, so I'm going to hold on for a little longer..."
"There will be plenty of chances in the future…" Ethan patted her head. "But first, come downstairs and have something to eat with me."
"No... I want to hold you a little longer..."
After four long years, she had finally warmed up that stone-cold heart of his!
It was fantastic!
