Chapter 610 Not on Purpose
The servants saw it from afar and freaked out, yelling for help as they ran over.
Abella was in a video call on her phone when she heard a frantic knock on the door.
Aimee kept banging. "Ms. Abella Medici, Mrs. Harris fell and is bleeding! Ms. Abella Medici!!"
Abella quickly ended the call, opened the door, and asked while walking with her, "What's going on?"
Aimee explained, "Ms. Lola Medici was pushing her to the garden, but the ground was icy and slippery. The wheelchair slipped."
Abella picked up the pace.
The servants helped Vanessa change out of her wet clothes. She was in so much pain, moaning softly. The caregiver grabbed a medical kit to disinfect and treat her wounds.
As soon as Abella entered, she heard Lola sobbing. "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I didn't take good care of Grandma and she got hurt. I deserve to die!"
Kimberly noticed her clothes were wet from the snow but didn't say anything as she saw Abella arrive.
"Abella, check on your grandmother. Aimee should have told you the details?" Kimberly asked anxiously.
Abella replied calmly, "Aimee wasn't there, so her description won't be as clear as someone who was."
Lola's eyes filled with tears. After a few seconds, she cried again. "Abella, let me explain. I really didn't mean it. At that time, I..."
"Stop crying, Abella is treating her." James patted Lola's shoulder. "Go change your clothes first."
"I'm fine, it's not important. The most important thing is Grandma." Lola's tears were still on her face, looking particularly pitiful.
Her clothes were cold, her hair was wet, and she was shivering.
Abella checked Vanessa's forehead wound. Luckily, it wasn't large and didn't need stitches. She disinfected and treated it, then checked Vanessa's bones, asking if it hurt when pressed or moved.
"How is it, Abella?" Beckett asked anxiously, "Is it serious?"
"No bone damage," Abella said, then asked a nearby servant, "When changing clothes, did you notice any other injuries?"
"Quite a few," the servant said timidly, glancing at Lola. "Mrs. Harris fell face down and rolled over twice, hitting a landscape rock. So her knees, calves, hands, and other parts are injured. Here, here, and here are also bruised."
Though these were minor injuries, Vanessa's age made this fall painful for several days.
Luckily, the slope wasn't long; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
"Grandma, does it hurt here?" Abella gently touched her waist.
"It hurts, it hurts a lot." Vanessa cried out in pain.
Everyone's hearts tightened, fearing her waist might be seriously injured. They watched Abella and Vanessa nervously.
"Does it hurt here?" Abella touched the left side of her waist.
"It hurts a lot." Vanessa's expression showed her pain.
"And here?" Abella touched the right side.
"It hurts terribly." Vanessa's eyes filled with tears; the pain was unbearable.
"I'll help you turn over gently to check."
Vanessa was in so much pain she couldn't move. The caregiver stepped in to help, and Lola quickly stood up. "Let me! I want to help Grandma."
"Your hands are cold, and you don't know how to handle it gently. You might hurt her more," Kimberly said, not meaning to be harsh, but Lola felt scolded.
She felt really guilty and upset.
Abella and the caregiver gently turned Vanessa over. "Guys, please turn away."
Beckett, James, and Blake immediately turned around.
Abella lifted Vanessa's clothes and saw her waist was badly swollen and bruised.
"Abella, is this serious?" Kimberly asked, worried.
"It's a soft tissue injury," Abella said, applying anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medication. "This will reduce inflammation and help recovery. Since Grandma's in a lot of pain, I'll give her oral painkillers to speed up circulation and help absorb the inflammation. It usually takes 7 to 10 days to improve."
"So long? Isn't there a faster way?" Lola asked, surprised by the recovery time.
Abella replied calmly, "Be grateful there are no fractures; otherwise, it would take longer."
Lola wanted to explain she didn't mean for this to happen, but Blake's look told her to stop talking, so she held back.
After treating all Vanessa's wounds and giving her painkillers, Abella softly said, "Grandma, rest for a while."
"Abella, stay with me," Vanessa moaned in pain.
"I'm here, don't worry. The medicine will kick in soon." Abella knew her palm was sore from rubbing against the wheelchair, so she didn't hold her hand but leaned in gently. "Tell me if you feel uncomfortable."
"It hurts," Vanessa said, really in pain; at her age, her body wasn't as strong as it used to be.
"You had a fall, so it definitely hurts. But luckily, there are no bone issues, just flesh wounds." Abella then turned to James, "It's best to have someone come and check, just in case."
"If you say it's fine, it must be fine," James trusted her medical skills.
"Better to check, for everyone's peace of mind." Abella then gently looked at Vanessa. "Rest well, I'll stay by your side."
"Don't leave."
"I won't."
Vanessa, in pain, soon fell asleep.
Abella's gaze then fell on Lola, who looked a bit scared.
"I, at that time..." Lola mumbled.
"Keep your voice down," Abella reminded, "Grandma hasn't fallen asleep yet."
Lola explained in a much quieter voice, "I saw the snow outside was beautiful and wanted to take Grandma out to see it."
"Don't you know that someone who just woke up shouldn't be exposed to the wind? Especially since Grandma's body hasn't recovered yet," Abella said. A servant shivered and added, "I reminded Ms. Lola Medici, but she insisted, and Mrs. Harris indulged her."
"Why didn't you follow?" James asked.
"Ms. Lola Medici didn't let me, saying she wanted to take care of Mrs. Harris alone, like Ms. Abella Medici."
Everyone's eyes turned to Lola.
Lola explained, "I just wanted to talk to Grandma alone like Abella. If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't have taken her outside."
