Chapter 1077 Mixed Feelings
Wren, the servant, was shaking with fear as she quickly stammered, "I didn't see anything, I swear."
Ever since Henry cut ties with his family, Whitney had been heartbroken and went back home to recover.
"Mrs. Hall's been like a ghost just going through the motions, when she came back, sometimes crying quietly."
"Today was your wedding, Mr. Hall. Mrs. Hall hasn't slept since last night. She hasn't eaten or drunk anything all day. Around seven in the evening, she went back to her room."
"We thought she was just tired and needed to rest. But then we heard a loud noise. When we ran out, we realized she had jumped."
Wren bowed deeply, her voice trembling, "Mr. Hall, I had no idea Mrs. Hall would do this. If I had known, I would've done anything to stop her and stayed by her side."
She hadn't believed Whitney's angry words during her fight with Henry would come true!
Whitney had threatened that if Henry went through with marrying Lola, she'd jump into the river or off a building.
She wanted to turn Henry's happy day into a nightmare.
She wanted Henry to carry the guilt forever!
"When we found out Mrs. Hall had jumped, we got the driver to prepare the car and called Mr. Nolan Hall and Ms. Hall. Mr. Nolan Hall fainted when he saw Mrs. Hall. Ms. Hall told us to take them both to the hospital while she went to find you."
It wasn't until Henry got the call that Wren realized Melanie had also been in an accident and was rushed to the hospital.
"She's in surgery on the twelfth floor. Go there and wait. As soon as the surgery is over, let me know right away," Henry instructed, his voice weary.
"Yes, Mr. Hall." Wren quickly bowed and left.
A while later, Henry received a video from his subordinate.
"Mr. Hall, this is the road surveillance footage from Ms. Hall's car accident."
Henry opened the video. On a mountain road, a truck driver seemed to have fallen asleep, and his truck was swerving. Melanie was driving fast, and the two vehicles were about to collide head-on.
The sound of Melanie honking her horn woke the truck driver, who swerved sharply and crashed into the mountainside.
To avoid the truck, Melanie hit the guardrail, and her car flipped over.
"These are photos from the scene."
The photos showed that Melanie's car was completely wrecked.
Henry felt a deep pain in his heart. With the car in such a state, how could she possibly be okay?
"Since the truck driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt, he flew out of the windshield and was seriously injured. He was later taken to the hospital by a good Samaritan."
Henry watched the surveillance video and photos over and over, feeling more and more distressed.
Melanie must have been so terrified when she crashed.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Lola.
"Henry, how's Mom?" Lola asked, her voice full of worry.
"Lola," Henry said, his voice heavy with sorrow, "Mom jumped off the building. It's bad. Dad fainted and had a stroke; he's in the ICU. Melanie was in a car accident and is in critical condition, still in surgery. I can't make it to the wedding reception."
Lola didn't blame him at all. Instead, she said understandingly, "I'll take care of the guests and come to be with you."
Henry felt a bit of warmth. "You're still recovering. Don't wear yourself out. I'll stay at the hospital tonight. After the guests finish dinner, thank them, and I'll have the driver take you back to the estate. The staff will handle the rest; you don't need to worry."
"I'm the bride; I should see the guests off. Don't worry, I won't overdo it. I'll wrap things up quickly and come to be with you," Lola said, adding thoughtfully, "I know you need me right now. Having me there will make you feel better."
"Lola," Henry's eyes welled up with tears, touched by her kindness.
"Wait for me," Lola ended the call. She had several stylists help her change into a more glamorous wedding dress, put on another set of jewelry, and went on stage to give a speech.
All the guests had finished their meal and received valuable parting gifts.
Lola, supported by the chair inside her wedding dress, bid farewell to each guest. She then had Briar help her change into more comfortable clothes and headed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Josie was sharing a novel she was currently reading with her friends.
Josie: [Ladies, you have to check out this book by Marlowe Grey! It's amazing. If you have time, give it a read. If you don't like following serials, you can wait until February 29th when Marlowe says it will be completed.]
Joanna: [I'm up to the latest chapter. The mastermind hasn't been revealed yet. Marlowe said no one in the comments has guessed who it is. The real boss will be a shocker. Josie, who do you think it could be?]
Josie: [I hope it's not someone close to the heroine, or I'll be heartbroken! I wish Marlowe would release all the remaining chapters at once. Waiting for two chapters a day is torture.]
Joanna: [There's probably a rule about releasing only two chapters a day. But I hope Abella can read it. With her intelligence, she could definitely guess the mastermind. But Marlowe has written over a thousand chapters, and Abella probably doesn't have time to follow it.]
Clare: [Who says? Abella can take in ten lines at once. What takes you ten days to read, she finishes in less than a day. But she's been busy lately and hasn't had time for novels.]
Joanna: [That's too bad. Clare, why don't you read it and help me figure out who the mastermind could be?]
Abella was about to reply to their chat when her phone suddenly rang.
"Ms. Medici, we've located Scorpion. He's at the airport, using a fake identity to go to Brunei. The plane leaves in an hour."
Once he was abroad, catching him would be difficult.
Abella immediately stood up and said, "Meet me at the airport."
"Yes."
Meanwhile, Lola had just arrived at the hospital when she received a message.
[I'm at the airport.]
A gleam of satisfaction flashed in Lola's eyes as she replied: [I'll let you know when it's safe to return.]
[Okay.]
Lola deleted the chat history and entered the emergency building.
At that moment, the doors to the operating room opened, and several doctors came out, pushing Whitney on a stretcher.
Henry immediately stepped forward and asked, "How's my mom?"
He saw his mother's face still had scratches, and she was unconscious.
In just a few days, his mother had become so haggard.
"The patient has a heart condition and is elderly. She has multiple fractures and internal injuries. Although we saved her life, whether she will wake up, become a vegetable, or have cognitive and memory impairments depends on her own fate. We've done our best."
Hearing the doctor's words, Henry felt a mix of emotions. He was relieved Whitney had survived, but worried about the possibility of her being a vegetable or having cognitive and memory impairments.
