Chapter 460 Finding a Needle in a Haystack
Abella just finished a phone call when she saw her mother gesturing for her to come over.
Abella walked over with suspicion and was then pulled aside by Mrs. Medici, who asked in a low voice, "How is it going? Any progress with Winston?"
Glancing at the distant figures, Abella asked softly, "Do you want to matchmake them?"
"I've watched Clara grow up since she was little. She's innocent, smart, and there's not a single flaw in her background, character, or education."
Mrs. Medici seemed very pleased with this girl. "The key is Clara's feelings for Winston. Everyone has seen it for over a decade. When she was in elementary school, she already said she wanted to marry Winston when she grew up. At that time, we thought she was just talking nonsense, but over the years, she has only had eyes for Winston. I think they are a perfect match."
"But it seems like Winston doesn't like her?"
"Winston is the kind of person who needs a little push from behind, or he can be quite awkward. Look at how proactive she is, but he doesn't know how to respond." Mrs. Medici found it quite a headache.
Abella saw Winston in the distance taking out his phone to send a message, and shortly after, her own phone vibrated.
Winston: [Abella, where are you? Please come quickly.]
His words were filled with frustration.
"Let's go, let's not disturb them." Mrs. Medici took Abella's hand and led her away. "Let them have more time together."
Abella looked sympathetically at the distant figure and replied, "Mom and I are going back inside."
Winston was speechless.
In the living room, Mrs. Medici held Abella's hand and said with a smile, "They seem to be getting along well."
"Yes, they've always gotten along since they were young." Mrs. Wren smiled tenderly and looked at Abella. "Abella, come sit over here, my dear."
After Abella sat down, Mrs. Wren took out a gift. "I heard from your mother that you've returned, so we've been thinking about what to give you. I heard that girls really like this brand, so this is a little something from Zephyr and me. You must accept it."
"Aunt, you're too kind." Abella saw the "QY" on the box and couldn't believe the coincidence.
Mrs. Medici chuckled and said, "Sharon, you don't know yet. This brand was founded by Abella."
Mrs. Wren's hand froze in midair, and she asked in disbelief, "You mean QY was founded by Abella? So, even this necklace was designed by her?"
"That's right." Mrs. Medici couldn't stop smiling. "We only found out much later how outstanding this child is outside. She's usually so low-key, we had no idea!"
Mrs. Wren couldn't believe the coincidence and stood there in a daze.
At that moment, Abella smiled and said, "From now on, you will always get a 30% discount at QY, Mrs. Sharon."
Mrs. Wren was overwhelmed by the pleasant surprise and her smile became even brighter.
Upstairs, Lola watched this scene, her nails digging deep into her palms.
She had just seen Clara holding Abella's hand and taking a walk in the garden, and now she saw Mrs. Wren holding Abella's hand, giving her gifts and having a conversation. In the past, she used to be the center of attention.
Just then, Winston returned. "It's getting a bit chilly in the evening. Um, you guys keep talking. I have some work to attend to."
"This child, what work does he have so late?" Mrs. Medici, unaware that he was a top hacker, looked at his back in suspicion, then turned to Clara. "Clara, Winston didn't bother you, did he?"
"No, Auntie. Winston is very nice. We had a great chat." Clara's curved eyebrows and watery eyes were charming. "Since Winston is busy, we won't disturb you any longer. Abella, I'll come visit you another day."
"Okay." Abella quite liked this girl because she was genuine and romantic, unlike Lola, who was more complicated.
"Can I add you on WhatsApp?"
"Of course."
Abella showed her personal QR code, and Clara scanned it to add her as a friend. Then she said, "Uncle, Auntie, we'll take our leave now. Rest early, and I'll visit you again next time."
"Alright." Mrs. Medici and Mr. Medici got up to see them off.
"Abella, Abella!" Winston called out to her softly at the staircase, waving for her to come up.
After Abella went upstairs, she heard Winston hooking his arm around her shoulder and asking in a low voice, "Did Mom ask you to create an opportunity for us to be alone?"
"Mom didn't ask me to do it on purpose." Abella raised her gaze and asked with a faint smile, "Winston, do you not like Clara?"
"I only see her as a buddy."
"Does she know that?"
"I told her a year ago." Winston felt a bit helpless, remembering what Clara had said on his birthday a year ago.
"The one you like is the one who gave you the amulet?"
This time, Winston was a bit surprised. "How did you figure it out?"
"You cared a lot about that amulet. That night, you looked so tense, as if you had lost something important."
Yes, that thing was his last hope, the final connection between him and her.
Perhaps seeing the sadness in Winston's eyes, Abella couldn't help but ask, "Where is she?"
"She left a year ago." Winston stood on the large terrace on the second floor, looking at the distant scenery, with a hint of self-mockery. "She disappeared without a trace after breaking up with me, taking everything with her. If it weren't for the amulet on me, she probably wouldn't have left anything behind, not even a trace."
Winston gazed into the distance, his dark eyes filled with a tinge of sadness. "Abella, this world is vast, so vast that finding someone is like searching for a needle in the ocean. And all I find are disappointments, over and over again."
Abella sensed the melancholy in his words. "Did you two have a fight?"
"No," Winston reminisced. "We never argued. It's just that in the end, she started to have less and less contact with me, and eventually, she was often unreachable. And finally, she told me that she no longer had feelings for me, that she liked someone else, and asked me not to look for her anymore."
"Does she really have someone she likes?"
"Maybe." Winston was also unsure about this. But if she didn't have someone she liked, how could she be so resolute and heartless?
"Does Clara know about what happened between you and her?" Abella asked again.
"Yes, she knew. In the months right after she left, I was completely lost, not knowing how time passed each day. It was during that time that Clara confessed her feelings to me."
"And you rejected her?"
"Yes." Winston looked into the distance again. "Clara is a good girl, but I don't have feelings for her. I didn't want to lead her on."
Now Abella understood. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Aren't you the top hacker in Asia? Don't you have any information at all?"
"I've tried everything, but it seems like she never existed in this world. Sometimes I even wonder if our past was just a dream."
