Chapter 609 There Will Be No Mistakes
Abella listened for a bit, then nodded. "Got it, I'll check on him in a few days."
She planned to head home after Christmas to work with Rodolfo on Nicole's antidote.
Nicole's poison was acting up more often, causing her severe pain.
She couldn't wait much longer.
Her grandfather's condition could wait a bit.
Back in her room, Lola thought about how Vanessa had seen Abella as better than her during the robot explosion.
If something dangerous happened again, she'd make sure Vanessa saw her differently.
An hour later, a servant drew the curtains in Vanessa's bedroom. Lola had already made porridge in the kitchen. She brought it to Vanessa with a smile. "Grandma, want me to feed you?"
"Lola, you didn't nap?" Vanessa was surprised.
"I'm not sleepy." Lola grinned. "I just learned this recipe online. Hope it tastes good."
"You even cooked it yourself." Vanessa smiled. "You could've let the servants do it."
"I wanted to do it myself." Lola insisted, smiling playfully. "It's rare to take care of you, I can't let anyone else do it."
Vanessa chuckled.
"Grandma, I'm so happy to see you awake."
"I'm happy to see you too."
"Try it, see if it's good?" Lola offered a spoonful of porridge to Vanessa.
Vanessa, who had loved Lola for eighteen years, was moved. "Delicious, very fragrant."
"Your praise makes it all worth it."
Vanessa felt a bit guilty. "You don't get much rest during your break."
Lola fed her another spoonful, smiling. "Since you like it, I'll make more next time. Not just porridge, anything you want."
Vanessa laughed heartily. "Haven't seen you in a while. You're talking so sweetly."
"That's because I missed you, Grandma." After feeding her the porridge, Lola hugged Vanessa. "Please don't get sick again, okay? I want you to stay healthy, just like when you used to take care of me."
Vanessa gently patted her back. "Okay, I promise I won't get sick again."
Lola smiled and extended her pinky. "Let's make a pinky promise."
Vanessa laughed. "You never seem to grow up."
After the pinky promise, Lola hugged Vanessa again. "Grandma, how about I push you out for a walk?"
Natalie suggested, "Mrs. Harris just woke up, maybe it's better to go out later?"
It was freezing outside, and for someone who just woke up, especially the elderly and sick, going out could easily lead to a cold.
Lola felt annoyed. 'Who asked you to speak up?'
But she still held Vanessa's hands, acting all cute. "The scenery outside is so beautiful. If we wait, the sunset will be gone, and we'll miss the snowy view."
Vanessa, who had spoiled her for eighteen years, agreed as usual. "Alright, you can push me out for a look."
Lola was thrilled and tried to help Vanessa into the wheelchair but found her too heavy. She used all her strength but couldn't move her.
"You're not even half as strong as Abella," Vanessa laughed. "Abella looks thin, but she's got some strength."
Lola quickly looked at Natalie. "Aren't you going to help me?"
"You're sweating?" Vanessa noticed the sweat on Lola's nose and laughed again. "No rush, it's okay."
Lola and Natalie finally got Vanessa into the wheelchair. This time, Lola could push her herself.
"Mrs. Harris, Ms. Lola Medici, I'll go with you!" Natalie offered.
"No need, I can handle it," Lola said quickly. "Abella can take care of Grandma alone, why can't I? Are you worried I won't do as well as Abella, or do you not trust me?"
"Ms. Lola Medici, I didn't mean that!" Natalie was startled by Lola's sudden outburst.
Lola pushed Vanessa out, and Vanessa, seeing through her thoughts, said kindly, "Natalie didn't mean anything by it. You know my condition; she's just worried something might happen to me."
"I'd never let anything happen to Grandma. If something did, it would happen to me first," Lola promised.
"Don't say such unlucky things," Vanessa laughed and chatted with her about various topics.
"Grandma, look, that camellia tree is blooming, so beautiful! Let me push you over to see." Lola was all excited.
The pink camellias were blooming beautifully, layer upon layer.
"Grandma, let me pick a few branches for you to enjoy inside?" Lola saw a low-hanging branch with some beautiful flowers.
She tried to pick them but couldn't reach, so she had to jump.
"Seeing you like this reminds me of when you were little, trying to pick fruit from the tree, jumping like this because you couldn't reach." Before Vanessa could finish, Lola landed too hard and bumped into the wheelchair.
The icy road was too slippery, and the wheelchair slid forward.
There was a slope ahead.
"Grandma!" Lola was startled and rushed over.
Vanessa was also frightened. She tried to grab the wheels to stop them from turning.
But the wheels were spinning too fast, and it was downhill. The spinning wheels rubbed against her hands, causing a burning pain.
Although Lola managed to grab the handles of the wheelchair in time, the ground was too slippery, and the wheelchair was heavy, continuing to roll forward, dragging Lola down the slope with it.
Due to the inertia, Vanessa's body slammed into a nearby decorative rock, and her forehead was cut, leaving a small gash.
Lola wasn't spared either; she fell even farther than Vanessa, rolling a few times and hitting a tree trunk, her whole body aching.
