Chapter 677 Snatching People

"Yo, Gregory straight-up injected some nasty stuff into Grandpa that mixed with his IV meds and turned into poison," Abella said, looking at Caleb. "This means either Gregory's got some serious medical knowledge, or someone's feeding him info. Whoever cooked up this plan knows their pharmacology and medical stuff way better than your average doc."

Caleb's face darkened at her words.

"Grandpa's even weaker now. He’s gonna need meds to slowly bounce back," Abella said, glancing at the old man on the hospital bed. "It might take a few days for him to wake up."

If she hadn’t gotten rid of the poison in time, they’d be looking at a corpse right now.

That’s why she didn’t chase after Gregory; she stayed to save her grandpa.

"We're lucky he's still alive. I messed up, thinking keeping Gregory around would make everything foolproof." Caleb never thought the guy he trusted would be the one to stab them in the back.

"If you hadn’t shown up in time to bust Gregory’s plan and get the poison out of your grandpa, he might’ve already..." Caleb looked at the old man, feeling like a heavy weight was crushing his chest.

Just then, Jacques Bernard rushed in with a squad of bodyguards. "Mr. Harris."

Caleb looked up. "Let me introduce you. This is Jacques, the guy I trust the most."

Abella glanced at the young man who had just walked in. He looked about twenty, with sharp features and a determined, alert vibe.

For someone his age to be Caleb’s go-to guy, he must be seriously skilled.

Abella nodded at him, and Jacques respectfully greeted, "Ms. Medici."

"I’ll stay here tonight. You take Abella home."

"Yes, Mr. Harris."

"Uncle Caleb, let me stay. If anything happens, I can handle it."

"The pilot had an accident, you flew the plane to my family's helipad by yourself, performed two surgeries in a row, barely ate anything before being interrupted, helped me deal with those men in black, and saved a girl you didn't even know. Now you've saved your grandpa in the hospital."

Jacques was blown away by how capable Abella was.

"I thought when you came to Verdania, I could show you around, but I didn’t expect all this to go down in one day," Caleb said, feeling a bit guilty. "Once this is all over, I’ll make it up to you."

"Uncle Caleb, don’t feel bad. This stuff would’ve happened whether I came or not. It’s just a coincidence I ran into it. What we need to do now is find the mastermind behind all this and get our lives back to normal," Abella said coldly.

Caleb looked at Abella with admiration. "You’re right. We gotta find the mastermind. Jacques, after you take Abella home, dig into who Gregory’s been talking to lately."

"Got it." Jacques nodded and then looked at Abella. "Ms. Medici, please."

"Wait." Abella walked to the bedside and saw a medical record book with a pen on it. She picked up the pen and started drawing on the blank page.

Jacques didn’t get what Abella was doing and looked at Caleb, who also seemed puzzled.

Abella sketched a pattern on the blank page and handed it to Caleb. "When I was scrapping with Gregory earlier, I spotted this design near his heart, just below his collarbone."

Caleb saw it was a fierce, grim wolf head.

"Is he from the Wolf Clique?" Jacques was shocked. Gregory having ties to the Wolf Clique was unexpected. But they had no beef with the Wolf Clique, so why would they send Gregory to off Caleb's dad?

"Abella, I didn't know you could draw like that," Caleb said, impressed by how lifelike the wolf head was.

Jacques was also secretly impressed. Not only could Abella fly a plane, treat and save people, and fight like a pro, but she was also a killer artist.

Abella said, "Uncle Caleb, you're too kind. But we don't know if this wolf head is really Gregory's deal or if he's just trying to throw us off."

Jacques thought that made sense too.

They had no issues with the Wolf Clique. If Gregory was trying to frame another gang, it wasn't out of the question.

Caleb realized Abella was pretty sharp, no wonder her family spoke so highly of her. "I'll have someone keep an eye on it. You should go rest."

"Alright, call me if anything comes up." Abella stepped out of the ward, and Jacques nodded to Caleb before quickly following her.

In the car, Abella sent a message to her crew.

Abella: [Check if there's a food stall near Zara Desert run by a middle-aged woman with a hospitalized son and a deadbeat husband.]

Her subordinate sent back a photo of his tired face: [Ms. Medici, why are you still up so late? Look at my dark circles.]

Abella stayed silent.

The subordinate: [Ms. Medici, is there really someone selling food near the desert? When the wind blows, all the food must be covered in sand.]

Abella's eyes narrowed. Could it be as she suspected, that the food stall and her grandpa's injury were all part of a plan?

Who wanted to hurt her grandpa?

Who did her grandpa piss off?

Abella: [Get me results ASAP.]

The subordinate: [No problem, Ms. Medici. But can you get me more of that eye cream for dark circles? A girl actually called me old today. Can you believe it? At my age, is she blind?]

Abella stayed silent.

Meanwhile, Sam and his crew had nabbed a few injured men in black. He slashed the tendons of one of them. "You dare mess with our boss? You must have a death wish."

The man in black screamed in pain, never expecting Sam and his crew to catch up.

At that moment, another group wearing silver masks swiftly approached under the moonlight.

"These people are ours," said the leader, his silver mask gleaming coldly in the moonlight.

"Are you talking to me?" Sam sneered at him. "We caught them. If you got the guts, come and take them."

The man in the silver mask said coldly, "In all of Verdania, there's no one we can't get."

"Then today I'll teach you a lesson, so you know some things can't be done." Sam quickly attacked, and the man in the silver mask immediately blocked him.

The men in black didn't understand what was happening.

The silver-masked men were Caleb's people, so who were these cocky guys, and why did they capture them?

The captured men saw this as a chance to escape.

Just as one of them tried to slip away, Sam placed a knife against his neck. "Did I say you could leave?"
