Chapter 618 Be Happy

The nurse overheard the argument and felt a bit sorry for her.

But Abella missed it; she was on the phone with Rodolfo, discussing research data. Rodolfo shared test results, and Abella gave her input for him to tweak.

Hearing the nurse, Abella told Rodolfo to hold on and asked, "What's up?"

Suddenly, the ECG beeped. Nicole had lost the will to live and closed her eyes.

"Oh no, the patient has no will to live," the nurse said urgently. "Dr. Medici, what should we do?"

"Rodolfo, hurry and bring the antidote after you modify it!" Abella hung up and started the rescue.

"Wait, the antidote isn't fully tested. What if there are side effects?" Rodolfo's last words were cut off as the call ended.

He tried calling Abella twice more, but she didn't pick up, probably busy.

Winston waited outside. After a while, he saw several doctors rushing in to help Abella.

Winston got anxious, wondering if something happened to Nicole. When the door opened briefly, he peeked in but saw nothing. He only heard the nurse saying the patient was about to die.

He pounded on the door, shouting, "Nicole, hold on! You promised you'd live well and stay with me forever. You can't break your promise!"

"Sir, please be quiet," a nurse came out and said, "You're disturbing the doctors."

"How's Nicole? Is she dying?" Winston asked anxiously.

"The patient has no will to live. She might've heard your argument."

"No, I need to explain to her."

"Sorry, sir, but please wait outside. Any explanation won't help now. Leave it to Dr. Medici." The nurse closed the door, and Winston waited anxiously outside.

Time passed. It started thundering and lightning, the sky turned gray, and heavy rain poured down.

Branches swayed violently, and the temperature dropped. This winter felt especially cold.

Winston sat from noon to evening, not knowing how he got through it. Both ICUs had girls he cared about in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Clara on the hospital bed suddenly called out, "Dad."

At first, Zephyr thought he misheard, but then he saw Clara opening her eyes a bit. Overjoyed, his eyes teared up.

He leaned in and said, "I'm here. Your mom and I are both here. Mr. and Mrs. Medici are here too. Do you feel uncomfortable? Should I call the doctor?"

"Yes, I'll call the doctor," Sharon said, pressing the nurse call button. The nurse went to get Abella.

Sharon looked at Clara's injured body, feeling both heartbroken and relieved that she had woken up. "You finally woke up. You scared me so much. It's good you're awake."

"Mom." Clara's voice was weak, but she tried to smile. "Don't cry."

Sharon didn't want to cry in front of Clara, but she couldn't hold back her tears.

Despite her injuries, Clara was comforting her.

"Mom, I want to go home," Clara said.

Zephyr and Sharon were stunned.

Zephyr remembered his elder, who, on his deathbed, had suddenly become clear-headed and asked to go home. They took him home, where he smiled, took one last look, and peacefully passed away. The elder had said that those about to die often request, "I want to go home."

"No, Clara, dear, we're not going home. Your body isn't well yet. Let's stay here for treatment first. When you get better, your Dad and I will take you home." Sharon held Clara's hand, tears streaming down. She was terrified of losing Clara and couldn't bear to think about it.

"Dad, Mom," Clara tried to hold her parents' hands but was too weak. Her voice was faint, as if every word took great effort. "In this life, being your daughter, I'm very proud. After I die, don't cry, don't be sad. Live well. I'll be watching over you from heaven."

Zephyr and Sharon couldn't hold back their tears.

Clara seemed to be leaving her last words, slowly advising.

"Clara, what are you talking about? You'll live, even longer than your Dad and me." Sharon cried. "Stop talking, don't say such things. Are you thirsty? I'll get you some water."

"Mom, listen to me," Clara seemed on the verge of passing, taking a long time to speak again. "Don't blame Winston and Nicole for this. Promise me, don't hurt them."

Sharon shook her head, crying uncontrollably. "No, no, don't say anymore."

"Promise me." Clara was struggling to breathe but still insisted on waiting for an answer. "Promise me!"

Zephyr, seeing Clara in such pain, cried his heart out. "Okay, I promise you, as long as..."

Before he could finish, the door suddenly opened, and Winston, having heard she was awake, rushed in first.

He was even faster than the doctors.

"Clara." Winston's heart was heavy with guilt as he appeared.

Clara's eyes filled with tears. She tried to smile, but her strength was fading. She could barely see Winston's face.

She only knew the man who rushed in was Winston. His tone was anxious and worried.

She tried to smile, using the last of her life to say, "Be happy."

Winston's tears instantly fell.

The ECG turned into a straight line.

The medical team asked them to leave, and Zephyr and Sharon cried bitterly.

After finishing with Nicole, Abella rushed over and immediately started the rescue again.

Beckett and Kimberly's eyes were filled with tears.
